Introducing the Friend Feed! As you browse the site, your actions will be displayed on the feed for your friends to see.

The first thing we suggest doing is heading over to the Privacy Options and choosing which options you would like your friends to see.

Very Big Brother inspired??? LOL

I don't understand this. I seriously don't give a bunny to know when my friends put their pets in training.

Different spin on the Lurapets concept:

Activism is futile. The only ones who will hear your argument are those who already agree with you, and therefore do not need to be "converted" to your "side". The intended targets of activism and conversionism will immediately and fiercely oppose you just on the principle that you want to force the issue. It literally does nothing.

So...why are you here?
0

gabrielle_safire

I don't really like it... But the privacy options are good.
0

Nimarai

The only useful thing in my opinion is the "topic creation" one.
Who cares if i win an auction.
And cmon,comments are private D;
0

Cranberry

Neat idea, and I like the privacy options. My only issue is that I'd like a way to filter the things I just don't care about from the default view of the feed. For example, I really don't care what my friends are doing in Item Hunt or how often they're training a pet, so I'd love to be able to just check a box so I never see those in my default view, but still see everything else.

And I agree with whoever said it would be cool to be notified when a friend makes a new HA. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
0

Luminous_483

I think the idea isn't bad, would be great if we could add "changing our avatar" or something too <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy.gif" border="0" />
0

Messarah

Actually, I kind of like this feature because of the token shop alerts. As for the others.. I think I'll pass XD

But I think some people would find it handy, the only problem here is it keeps track of some little things, such as pet leveling.

If you don't like it, turn it off.. Simple. At least the features not forced upon you, yeah?
0

Friskysquirt

Personally I like to stalk but dislike being stalked <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />

@Deli I kind of know what you're saying and do know where you're coming from, but stealing programming is bad.

When people have stolen my coding in the past I have been none too pleased.

But I am tripping myself up. You have ownership of a program but a concept, eh.

0

Mystykal_IceMyst

No, I don't care for it, so I am glad that you have the privacy options... It feels to much like Big Brother watching my every step.. who the heck cares what I am doing on my account.. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" />

Epic.

Now on topic: I poked around and I think I like this- it can't HURT much, anyways, as it is on it's own page.

Thank you for adding this on behalf of those who like it, and thanks for the preferences for those who don't!
0

lighthawk

I mean, who cares if I feed a pet or buy an item? This friend feed idea is just silly.

Uhhh... stalkers... o.0 But it is nice to see the events so you know if your friends are stealth modeing on you. >:C I hate stealth mode, no one is ever on now!

I don't understand....
0

WIN

...um.
0

Smauglock

Meh, a bit too stalker-ish for me. I'm glad you've added the privacy options.
0

User not found:

OK, let's just say Lurapets did invent the whole news feed idea; who the hell cares? It's a damn convienent feature, and if Facebook and Subeta and Gaia and probably countless other sites want to 'steal' the feature, why the hell shouldn't they? I think it's stupid to want to limit progress to one single site that barely anyone even knows about.
SHARING IS CARING GUYS.
Anyway, about the friend feed. This is extremely awesome on facebook, so I imagine that if I had more friends on Subeta, I would find it extremely awesome here, too. But as it is now, I probably won't be using it much.
0

MOROwhitewolf

Hey cool c:
0

User not found:

lolz interesting idea, sorry, dont get mad if i say this, but it IS a LITTLE stalkerish, but i am glad there is a "no" option, so im good X), and Dj, i even searched your laurapets on google and didnt get anything, and many other sites have stuff like this, so just drop it =P
0

Tonne

yeah cause Lurapets totally invented News feeds and statuses :d

and dude, DJTim666..seriously you're not going to sit there and rant about it? too late, you kinda already are. It's you who need to get a life if all you have to do with your time is stalk Subeta for Lurapets. Why don't you stick with your little known pet site that no one here cares about and stay away from the party over here.

Anywayyy..Cool feature Keith, I can't wait to see how it works out in the future <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" />
0

flare

i don't see how this is stalkerish at all.
0

Tamouraka

FFFFFFFFFFFF -comment fail- ;_;
Anyways what I wanted to say in short was that I don't see the point in this because if there is something I MUST tell my friends I'd just comment them. Seems like a waste of time to code this, better spent on doing other things. This is just my opinion though, for those of you who enjoy it, enjoy c:
0

Scy64

This is an interesting feature, though I don't think I'll be using it. I suppose if you had a group of friends all intersted in certain parts of the site (trading, posting things, etc) it would work out. I just don't think my friends want to know everything I'm doing all the time (just my personal feeling for myself). I like to pick and chose to share what I deem important (again, a personal opinion). But I'm sure some will like this feature.
0

Tamouraka

Honestly? What is the point of this? Seems more like it was a waste of time coding this, better spent on other things. Seriously, if there's something I really want my friends to know, I'll just comment :/ Anyways, that's what I think : >
0

ridiculous

I'd never even heard of Lurapets before, now I'm completely turned off to it. Good jorb.

Anyway COOL IDEA! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
0

draithypie

RazberrieTart... Funny how you say social networking is a silly concept.... when you have 14 little friend icons up on your profile, and you're sitting there at your computer posting comments on news posts on a website instead of ''going out'' yourself. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" /><img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_heart.gif" border="0" />

0

Chakra

lol my first intention of this was to feed the pet of your friend! then I saw that it was for updates on your friends lol.
0

DJTim666

I didn't say we personally invented this concept. It just so happens that about a month after we come out with it(oh, and did I mention Keiths' blog?), Keith decides he'll add it to Subeta. It just seems a little coincidental that right after Keith rants about and tries to put down Lurapets for stealing his ideas, which btw I have seen on many other sites(likewise with statuses), he would come out with this. Hmm.. odd.
0

I feel like a stalker now. =P

Hah, this is cool. 8D Thanks!
0

Would it be possible to add "select all" and "unselect all" buttons to the privacy options page please?
0

Brivet

Oh baww, Keith created a cool new thing for us to use. A bit of info: Lurapets did not invent the status, a lot of sites have used this feature. Besides, sooner or later an idea will end up being copied. In some cases it is called inspiration.

Now, it's impossible for everybody to agree on everything, this is why they've made an option for you to disable this feature. Everybody's happy!

Hmm, well, good idea if you like sharing these things with your friends. ^^ I changed them all to 'no' because I see no reason for my friends to know everything I do on here, plus I'd feel like a spammer.
0

ColdDragon

I'm to old, or maybe old fashioned, for this. I avoid twitter/myspace/whatever like the plague because these things drive me nuts. But I'm not going to complain since it has a privacy feature. As long as people that don't like it can turn it off then more power to the people that enjoy it to have fun with it.
0

METROID

I don't know what to make of this feature other than I know I won't use it on daily basis, if at all.
0

It's Facebook for Subeta! 8O
0

I love/hate this feature. XD
At least there's a choice of privacy.
0

machalek

oh man . . . Facebook is taking over the internet.
0

Clover

Actually the more I think about this the more wonderful it becomes! I kept the topic making one and replies on, token shop, and creating pets/changing their colors on because I want my friends to see. You all think this might not be a social place, but in truth it's extremely social! This feature will be a lot of fun and help me connect to people I've been neglecting on my buddylist for quite a while.

Thank you for giving us this option! Some of us will really appreciate it's use. c:

<b>Quote By Carol:</b><blockquote style="padding:5px; line-height:15px; background-color: #FAFFFF; border: 1px solid #000000; font-family: georgia; font-size: 10;">I love all of the people who are saying "I don't want my friends to know what I'm doing." ...Why the heck are they your friends, then?</blockquote>

For me it's more like "I don't want to spam my friends with all my pet training, adoptions, auctions, questing, trades, and profile comments." It's not that I don't want them knowing what I'm doing, I just don't want to bother them with all the trivial things or, in the case of profile comments, things that don't necessarily concern them.
(I'm not complaining though... I'm happy that we have options for each so I can shut off what I don't want to flood my feed with.)
0

Nameshifter

My FRIENDS know what I'm doing! The HORROR of it all! I could see how it could get annoying after a while if you have a friend who/you are someone who has a big forum thread they post in constantly, like a shop or contest of some kind.

Gonna leave all mine on to check it out for a bit before deciding anything.

Because Lurapets totally invented status and...ohwait.

They didn't.

Let me beat your high dead horse a little.
0

Cassiopeia_875

I'd like to see status updates on the right side of my screen, like the shoutbox only higher up, so I can see it update as I navigate the pages. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
0

Kyphoscoliosis

Disregard the "How do we view the feeds" bit of my comment and insert "I'm a dumbass." Ugh. I should try reading things and understanding them.
0

Psychedelia

Ah to stalk our friends we go to the same feed page... seems a little silly to me. Well I played w/ it. I set it how I like... heck if I'll remember to check it.

Meh.
0

Kyphoscoliosis

How are these activities observed? Is it a profile feature? It better not come up as alerts, because that would piss me off.
I'm not a fan of the idea, personally. I couldn't really give a rat's ass about what people do on here, as long as they're not hacking my account. Going to set everything as 'no,' now. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" />
0

Psychedelia

social networking is such a silly concept... go out.

Anyway. Interesting idea, there's a few I have set to yes, the rest to no, and I can't figure out how to see my friends' feeds, but if I miss something they'll tell me later.... so I really CBA worrying about this.
0

Asmodeus

Well, this is neat. I guess.
<img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" /> though else than topics I create (art shops) I don't really want people looking into my every move... and I'm not really interested in what other people do, either...
0

User not found:

I personally love the idea!

Yes, many sites may already have implemented this feature and look how successful they are. Some people may enjoy this feature and some may not. To each their own.

A lot of you are also saying this isn't another social network... well isn't? Don't we come here to play games, meet and talk to friends? How is that not another community?

All in all, great job Subeta. Thank you!
0

Voodoo_855

Subeta; contributing to stalkers since 2009. ;D

<img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_sigh.gif" border="0" />
0

spiderman143swife

I like it but think its to stalkery in a way. I've narrowed it down to where they can only see my status, achievements, token shop buys, trade creation, and thread topics made. Thats all I really want to see out of the others too. I doubt I go there and check up on people much but if I do I do if not then oh well P:
0

FLUX

Cool, but this is why we have Facebook etc, I doubt I'll use it. This isn't another social network site xD
0

Thyne

@DJTim666 ROFLMBO LOL

xD And who did you guys steal the idea from then? 'Cause I have seen MANY MANY sites that use that feature.
0

bonecrivain

....why on earth would we care about seeing that our friends have done Item Hunt? I set everything to No and am glad we were given that option.
0

kittaly

This is creepy and stalkerish, just eww.
0

Clover

Lurapets? Don't make me laugh.

Firstly, this is a type of feature you wouldd see on Myspace, Facebook, and even a bit of twitter. I would never think of a petsite with this type of feature because the three above have been using it for quite a while and are very widely known.

I can see this as possibly being neat and fun, but like many others I'm unsure. I'll give some of the options a run to see how well I like it. You never know until you try it! C:
0

Blastoise

nice
0

Liz_885

DJTim666: I always thought bulletins and statuses originated from social networking sites, but thanks to you I now know a pet site I had never heard of before is the original creator. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" />
0

Paint

you guys, sites are practically based off of using ideas from each other, so everyone breathe ; D

I'm a little creeped out by this but we'll see how it goes o:
0

Whooves

Yes. I do agree default should always be set to No on everything.

Some people don't check the news or anything before going about their usual business.
Like with the Stealth feature i had to tell most of my friends that they were invisible because of the default was on yes, when they didn't want to be hidden.
0

Petcollector

Default should be NO. My main concern is the options being reset without us knowing it, which is exactly what happened to me. There are many reasons why we might not want our friends to see ALL our comments, and I really don't want to have to constantly check the privacy settings to see if they have been reset.
0

Whooves

DJTim666 - ROTFLMAO

Seriously? You're already wasting your time by caring. Tons of sites us these features. There are tons of pet sites that will continue taking ideas from one another. Get with it, or get over it.

Seriously.
0

Rah

I was wary of this at first, but I've just realised the potential the feature has for me. I ADORE knowing about my friends pets and what they are doing with them, and I often go to my friends' profiles to see what updates they've made, and I spend ages trying to figure it out, and then I give up and ask them anyway.

Now I get to see when my friend has changed around her pets, or when another friend has changed the colour of one of her pets. This makes me vastly happy! And it's already started conversations up of 'OH YOU'VE ADOPTED A NEW PET!' which I can then glee about with people who I know care enough to actually ask! Lovelovelove this feature. And it's great that we can pick and choose what we want people to see <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

Nice to see some interesting features from facebook and twitter being implemented here! Thank goodness it's not a big huge thing on our homepage though, or clogging up our profiles. It's nice and organised on a separate page. So an improvement on an existing idea!
0

DJTim666

So, building on ideas ehh? You take Lurapets' "Bulletin" and "Statuses" and turn it into a completely retarded feature, that I doubt anyone will enjoy using.

You really need a life Keith. Stay away from Lurapets if you don't like what we have to offer. A little hypocritical to be stealing ideas, no?

Anyways, I'm not going to sit here and type out some rant that you'll probably never read, so all-in-all just leave us alone.
0

chocolatebrownlocks

I like it <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
0

zlombie

"Um... Lurapets has this. Now who's taking ideas? "

Um... actually it's a social networking application that many many websites have.
0

NovaAva

It's an interesting feature. I can see the use of the "Token Shop" preference, but I set almost everything else to "no" because it just seems pointless to alert my friends to those sorts of things.
0

PUNK

'And if you don't want to broadcast? Set everything to no. Simple as that. '

Sure it's as simple as that. Doesn't mean that the people who don't like this feature don't have the right to voice their opinions. Does it always have to be 'omg omg i luv u guys 4eva cuz u made dis new stalker thing' ??

If I like something, I will always make a point to say so. That doesn't mean I can't say when I don't like something, now does it?
0

Tsukemono

xD
*begins to stalk friends* I KNOW IF YOU'RE NAUGHTY OR NICE *evil laughter*
But I like my privacy ._.
*selects "no" for most of it*
0

Fiyera

Um... Lurapets has this. Now who's taking ideas?
0

MultipleAccount

Lurapets had this what? A month ago?
0

Moran

As I already said in the forum thread- I know it from another Avatar Site and I dont like it. :/ I like my privacy. If my friends want to know something they can ask me.
0

Swirl

It's an interesting feature, although I set nearly everything to no. I kept the Token Shop, achievement, and forum topic alerts though. :3 Those could be fun to share.

Pretty much the exact same arguments are being used here as many people posted on Facebook back when they first implemented the feed. And yet the world didn't stop turning, and FB didn't lose the millions of users that were threatening to quit. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" /> I think we'll all survive this as well.
0

Persys

Cute idea. I don't know that I'll have much use for it, since I only have one friend here, but it's still fun. All of the development on this site is great. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
0

Lotus

Not a feature I would use myself, so I set everything to "no" in preferences, but as long as it doesn't slow the site down, it doesn't matter to me whether we have it or not.
0

Faun_171

Hmmm... I hope the settings are vast and complex.
0

Norn

Interesting feature. I don't see much use in it (yet? ^^ ). The only thing i notice is that the site is really slow. No images loading, no pop-up information. Could this be result of all that logging?
0

Thyne

Again, letting everyone know that it DOES NOT LEAVE AN EVENT when your friend does something.

Personally...I don't see this as letting them know a whole lot either ? I go on a few different sites where you can click who is online and actually see what they are doing at the moment. What thread they are looking at...etc.
0

Tucker

Seeing the posts and comments like that I don't mind. Like Gunblade said, anyone can find those. I really don't see the use of some of the others.

You know, I'm surprised there's no quest one. Something that says how many wiz/sag/others quests you did and failed. Now that I would love to see.
0

Jenn

If you don't want your friends knowing what you're doing, why are they friends...I agree with that to a certain extent but at the same time they don't need or want to know every single thing I do on my account every day. That was a valid argument for not using the Stealth option because we don't all talk to every single friend we have every single day. If people don't hide, we at least can see that they are still alive and kicking. But I doubt my friends care when my pets trained, if I won an auction, abandoned or adopted a pet and so forth. I didn't speak up when it was in Beta testing because it was quite obvious this was going to be put in place regardless of what people said. Now made doubly obvious by the very short amount of time it was even beta tested. I just don't understand why this is even necessary.
0

User not found:

okaay "Pet Train" - then my friends would have 3 alerts every 2 hours *lol* i think it would be better to be displayed on my profile, or just as a "log" for myself - in fact i would love that. but nice to see all the changes and efforts! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
0

LadyBee

This should be interesting.
0

Thrinoskia

I don't see how it's creepy. Anyone can find your posts, comments, etc. if they know where to look. This just gives you the option of broadcasting.

And if you don't want to broadcast? Set everything to no. Simple as that.
0

xxMadxHatterxx

This is kind of creepy. I'm not sure I like it, but I do like tha fact that you gave us the option of hiding our activity.
0

0

Can it let my friends know when I go to the bathroom as well? =D
0

Tucker

Why I don't want my friends to know what I'm doing? Because if they really want to know, I'll tell them. Same thing in rl if a friend wants to know what I'm up to, ask me. No peeping through my windows. xD
0

Whooves

Carol, I agree with this. However, if I wanted my friends to know that I won an auction, doing Item Hunt quests, Created a Forum Thread, Left a Comment on someone's page.

I'd tell them.

Especially if i'm talking to someone about a gift I may be getting the friend or however.
I don't need them to know everything I do.

It's a bit creepy. Even though I love my friends to pieces x3

ah but that is just my view.
0

Rumi

With all the options, this new feature pretty much covers those who are social, anti-social and everyone in between! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" /><img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" />

Speaking of which, the friend feed just let me know, based on my friend's purchases, that the token shop restocked. How handy!
0

Morticia

@maddgranma I have the same problem.

Furthermore I noticed that you're able to insert usernames. Since I have no facebook experience or similar experiences, I have no idea what to do with all of this.

But I guess it's bugged for now.
0

Carol

I love all of the people who are saying "I don't want my friends to know what I'm doing." ...Why the heck are they your friends, then?

I love this feature and I think it's going to open up a whole new aspect of social networking on pet sites that we haven't seen before. I think it's a great little innovation. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

Oooh, thanks for the info! ^^ I get it now! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" /> For a moment I was worried about my events clogging up majorly. XD Neat little idea! ^^ I like it. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

I think I'll leave all mine to 'yes', as well. I don't mind if my friends become stalkers. In fact, I'll be flattered! XD BWAHAHA!

Malabui

I still don't understand this or how to work it.

Apparently all my things are active, but putting my pets into training doesn't trigger it or show up.

Shrimp

The friend feed went live already? <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_shocked.gif" border="0" /> It was only in beta for, what, a couple of days?
Anyway, I do like it <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
0

Morticia

??? I wasn't waiting for stuff like this.

I guess it's a fab to let folks know what you're doing. I'm not that kind of an exhibitionist. I will only activate a few. If they get a message every time I train a pet or do the item hunt, they can go crazy of all the messages flying around.

HALLA

We Subetans need Twitter/Facebook no more! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_shocked.gif" border="0" />
...lols. I likes! <3

Thyne

@itsdarkatnight -- Nope, it won't show up as an event. Rather, it shows up in the friend feed box. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

What's nice about this is you can chose what to show your friends and what not to, or even not show them anything if you'd like. I have all my options set on 'yes' because I really don't give a crap if my friends know what I have done/am doing. xD
0

Blackjack

Hmm, not going to use this. If I want to know what my friends are doing, I'll just ask. :/ Don't really see the benefit of it - and it seems a little stalkerish, tbh.
0

Whooves

-turns all mine to no-

xD
I don't want my friends knowing what I do.
0

demitasse

Neat. Could be especially useful for watching trades.

I haven't had any problems setting my feed the way I want it. If it was a glitch it's clearly already been fixed. Well done, staff!

SpecialSpice

@Keith
The options now successfully saved. They didn't the first few times I tried ... but they seem to work now.
0

itsdarkatnight

I don't understand how this works yet. ^^ I'll hold back on setting my options for this until I can see what my friends are doing/what they think of it.

I'm wondering if whenever my friends will do something if it'll show up as an 'Event' for me? ***so confused***
0

Keith

@SpecialSpice - Update your status and try again. It could be that there are no 'options' for you because you haven't used the feed.
0

Rudeladybug

can you say stalker!
0

SpecialSpice

Boy, "tmi" for sure. Can it let my friends know when I go to the bathroom as well? <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

In seriousness, wouldn't it have made sense to make the default for these options "no" ... and let users decide which options they'd like to share with others?

I'd also like to mention that it isn't letting you save the options differently ... they are "stuck" on yes.

RAPsody

Huh? Oh... this isn't as fun as it first sounded "friend feed" <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" /> Actually at first I thought "omg... someone else I have to keep bloated?!" <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy.gif" border="0" />
0

Malabui

I don't really understand what this is or the point if it.
0

Keith

@Nataku

I'm not sure how it could be used for spamming. It just posts your forum posts / comments / achievements / etc. Unless you're doing things just to spam up the feed, I'm not sure how it could be spamming <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" />
0

Wuppie

Wow, that was rather fast after introducing the Beta to the GA users.. (in comparison with the hair salon) I'm happy it's working well already! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
0

SheDevil

Whoops, no peaking!

must be for GA members only

This is what a friend just got.

He wants to disable everything can you fix this.
0

Thyne

I liked testing this feature. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> It's a lot of fun!
0

tegu

now it's so much easier to stalk my friends.
0

Nataku

Will remain suspicious of this until I see how it fully works. First impression = giant spamming device and something worthless like Twitter on Subeta.

I hope to be proven wrong. =/
0

Wren

I think this takes obsessing/stalking to a whole new level. xD I don't understand the point of watching or monitoring someone so closely.
0

Groot

Kinda creepy xD
0

PePPeR01

I really dont see the point of this!!!
0

Keith

The feed (and privacy options) were cleared after testing.
0

BlueSkyy

Options won't save, but it looks nice.

I just tried to change the privacy options and it changes them all back to yes when I hit "change". Just thought I would let you know.
