Haiti Bird

Wearable preview: Haiti Bird

To be serious for a moment, something tragic happened recently in Haiti. I'm not going to go into details because if you've turned on a television or listened to the radio in the past week, you've heard the heartbreaking stories of children trapped under rubble for 6 days, or mothers lifting stones with their bare hands trying to find their babies.

I know that right now, no one has much to spare. If you have anything, there are multiple charities that will put your money to the best possible use in Haiti, helping people who need it right now.

The bird above is a new Free Gift.

This was very thoughtful of all of you guys.
I'm sure Haiti will never forget everyone's friendly gestures.
It is wonderful to see so many caring people! My family has donated a lot(believe me) to Doctors Without Borders, which I am sure are helping there.

wearing the bird in support for Haiti...i've donated to charities giving to Haiti already but most likely will be giving a $1 here and there at stores if i see it like i know Staples has a donation fund for Haiti going in their stores...it saddens me seeing some of the mean things people say though on some sites and some are from my own country...it good to see so much unselfishness on this site though...thankies Keith for showing the kind giving spirit towards the Haiti people during their time of need
You have a good heart Keith.
In Haiti, the mothers also sell dirt cookies to try and make money to survive
I fixed up my avatar for this. I have been donating what I can to the aid efforts.
I totally agree with the Cash Shop idea, it doesn't seem like something very difficult to pull off, and I think it would make a pretty big impact =3 It also gives those people who can't be bothered to donate/maybe don;t want to give their card detials to sites an extra incentive to donate. Hope this goes ahead!
My sister took a HUGE interest in the disaster and I've already donated 25, at school and via cell phone. But if I find myself with extra cash soon I'll try to remember to donate some more.
And another thing... I noticed, as other did that it took a huge disaster to help Haiti, it isn't right, that we only really think of it now, but at least we're helping. I think that's how we are really. Emergencies bring out the caring side of honest people, it brings attention to those places that were always looked over before. I guess it's like Chernobyl in a way, a great disaster that lead to real changes. Or at least we should hope.
Fly bird, fly.
Aww that was so sweet of you Keith. c:
I don't have alot of spare money, so I just texted the number that donates $10 through your phone bill.
I don't remember what it was, but I think its on the Help For Haiti website.

dancing_in_the_flame: It might seem like a lot of us who say we can't donate have lots of stuff and so can afford to donate.. I mean obviously here we are on the internet, so we have computers.. but despite having these items in our homes, a lot of people are in debt right now. (because of school loans, lost jobs, etc, not just because of excessive spending..) If I donated, I would be donating money that isn't mine to give, and I bet it's the same for lots of others.

So, you know, just FYI, the whole guilt trip thing isn't always valid. And nobody say "well sell your computer" plz, because it's not just a big toy for surfing on Subeta, it's also the best tool you can have to hunt for jobs, educate yourself, making money, etc.
Lovely gesture, Keith.
This reminds me that the staff of subeta are people with real hearts.
im going to were mine these things are going to go for big bucks in the future once haiti is fine but anyways i feel so bad for haiti i donated a little bit i feel so bad for the familys were people have died
A nice thought.
I've donated as much as I could at the time I did donate, however if this website itself had a Haiti relief fund, I'd try to donate some, I'll have to wait until my paycheck, though.
Thank you so much for doing this. It was a tragic event and I just want people to be ok. I'll wear my bird with pride.

i agree with the cash shop idea-possibly make a specific item, and turn over so many of the profit. i say subeta has a fundraiser!
Thank you very much Keith.

My heart goes out to Haiti. It's a lot to process but so important not to turn away from. I've donated a bit and plan to donate more once I can. I've been praying for my Haitian brothers and sisters while making sure to post a lot about it on social networks. I encourage other to do the same. Every little bit helps.
Amen. Thank you for this newpost, it's touching to know that even here, we don't forget reality and the events that take place there.
I'm giving all of the spare change and odd dollar that I have to relief organizations, and I agree with the ideas of putting the money of some of the stuff in the Cash Shop towards Haiti. That would be a great idea, really.
Love the idea! What a cute item. I'm wearing mine now. =)
nice gesture. ^-^
My school is doing everything they can to help out Haiti. Everything from giving money to clothes and shoes. Anything helps right now.

I love the bird. Great Symbol. ^^
It's great that Subeta is a site that isn't afraid to acknowledge the things that's going on in the world around us, unlike some sites. I haven't been able to donate anything yet, but I plan to soon.

Also, that's a very pretty bird.
I think that's a really nice free gift.

@Keith, have you considered having a Cash Shop sale and donating a percentage to a relief organization? It would probably add up to a pretty substantial amount.
I've seen the news and I have no words to express my happiness when they saved an 87 year old lady from the rubble.
It really made me cry, you could see by her face she had no hope left when they got her.

Haiti really needs help, and whoever can help really should. Nice gesture.
Thankyou Keith <3

My oldest brother lived in Haiti, mostly Port-au-Prince for two years back in 2001 and made many friends, the vast majority of them had nothing and he would leave bags of flour, sugar and rice around their homes because they were too embarassed to accept his gifts. When he came home he shared his friends with me. Since the earthquake we haven't been able to get ahold of any of them and most probably, never will. Please everyone if you have -anything- to spare please please do donate so that the survivors have a fighting chance.
i donated $25.00 to Haiti! i hope that helps. just 50 cents will give a family of 4 clean water for 1 week. so keep donating!
All prayers and good wishes are sent their way. And this bird is a nice gesture.
Just... PLEASE make sure you donate to established charities. There are tons of scams out there. I recommend the Red Cross, or Catholic charities. Make sure your money will go to Haiti and not in some scam artists pocket.

Love the bird, thank you.
I completely agree with the Cash Shop idea. I would definitely buy something to support Haiti.
I agree with sweetruth1126
and with this bird, I will wear as support for Haiti
You could put something in the cash shop and donate everything earned from that item in a month or something to Haiti...
I only can think on the children who lost their families, really hearthbreaker mod.
Its a very nice birdie
You guys know how to get to my little black heart.
Very well said.
Everyone should help out if they can.
There was a 2nd earthquake a couple days ago. They really need everything they can get.

Thanks for the lovely bird!
Godspeed, Haiti relief.
Thanks for appealing to Subeatans Keith.

Its strange to think that many of us with sooo much, think we dont have a cent to spare. I have seen little kids with a $1 pocketmoney give to the appeal. Apart from all the organisations you can give to, our banks take donations as well - so nothing is too smal - and every little doies help. Please dig deep - donate the price of lunch, think before you buy something you dont REALLY NEED - these people have lost more than material things. Remember how blessed we all are!

Thank you for the beautiful bird Keith.
I feel so terrible with this going on, that my mom and I don't have any extra money to donate... I wish we did
At the law firm I work, we have a charitable foundation, where they will match your contribution to this effort to help Haiti. Thanks Keith and staff for your ongoing spirit towards the good of the world. Wears bird with pride.
All the support that has gone to the country before has gone to warlords...
Even with all the support it's getting now, give it a year things will be around the same as they were.
While the whole earthquake is very much a heartbreaking story, it still upsets me to no end that it took a natural disaster of this scale for people to even realize that Haiti exists. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and people die every day from the conditions. I'm not saying supporting the people now is a bad idea, I'm saying where has the support been all along?
It's sad that this happened in Haiti, but the sad thing is...if people cared before things might not had been so devastating.
I already donated last night You guys are great for doing this!

lol, I actually bought a billboard to do this last night and sent it in XD
This just goes to show how awesome you guys are. It was very nice of you guys to bring this up. It was a tragedy
Thanks for once again showing why you guys are the best.
Aww I think its so endearing that subeta trying to get people donate to help save more lives.
Ive donated £15 already as thats all I can really afford but my school held a cake sell and raised over £350 to go to the haiti The cakes were like 20p each so it proves that every little helps
Thank you for bringing this up. Me and my girl scouts(lol shush) are already doing a fundraiser to help those in Haiti. The bird is beautiful, Thank you.
This is a sad time and it's so nice that you took the time to talk about helping Haiti.
Such a disaster. I'm glad you brought it up, Keith. Thank you.
It's great to see Subeta caring. Thanks for it, and thanks for that little bird which is so perfect.
The bird is gorgeous
and the meaning behind it is beautiful
/wears bird with pride
even if it DOES clash with my outfit
yes, of course, donation sent! the bird is absolutely beautiful...I it!
Thank you.
Thank you Subeta for doing this . I'm Haitian American and it's nice to see that people are still trying to help.

Definitely wearing this bird. <3
This is really nice and sweet. Thank you

Thanks guy!
What an awesome item! Thank you! My family and I have done what we can to help, and now I get to have this amazing bird! <3
WOW guys this makes me respect ya'll so much more than I ever did before. This is amazing!!!!!
I donated $25 last night via Canada for Haiti and every dollar that I donated, the government will match so in essence that was $50.
My parents donated $50 to the school last week.
Thank you for this post.
I'm glad this has been mentioned here.

I donated via text to the Red Cross. It comes up on your bill, but the money is obviously for a good cause.

Oxfam also a good organisation.
Thank you for the post and the bird.
Most Krogers let you donate $1-$5 (or more if you want) at checkout. Even if it's not much, really, EVERY little bit helps.
And you can text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti.
(source: http://newsroom.redcross.org/2010/01/12/disaster-alert-earthquake-in-haiti/)
The charge will show up on your next cell bill.
If you are like me, and don't have much spare $$, you can always contact your local newspapers, television stations, or radio stations to find charitable organizations who are taking donations of much-needed baby supplies, non-perishable food items, and bottled water. I am broke, but managed to scrounge up a case of bottled water and a bag of groceries to donate to a local ice cream chain in my area that was taking donations. Any little bit helps. Truly.

Thank you for the free gift Subeta staff. It's lovely! Also, Keith please know that if you choose to put something in the cash shop in support of Haiti a lot of us would be happy to donate via Subeta.
It ate my post.
I also said it's touching how many people are helping out. Eat that internet misanthropes.
That's... really touching Keith <
It's also touching how many people are helping out. Eat that internet misanthropes >:3
This is one of the things I love most about Subeta... ...that you do things like this. It's excellent. Thankyou.
Thanks
Thanks for posting this Keith.
I've worked with the Red Cross in the past and I've donated to them already, as well as a number of other charities. I'm glad that in this way, we can rally together as a community and do all we can for the people of Haiti. If I could up and leave everything right now, I would be over there to help in a second. In the meantime, I'm doing what I can from here. Hopefully with the efforts of people like this from all over the world, they'll have Haiti settled soon enough and those who lost their houses and everything they owned and those they loved can start putting their lives back together. I'm keeping the people of Haiti in my prayers.
I saw a bluebird yesterday. It was the first one I've seen in ages. It was such a vibrant beautiful surprise on a drab grey winter day. I sent a thanks for the gift.
[cousins and aunts] have moved there a few years ago...A young boy named Oliver was adopted by my aunt Lori a year ago and his birth parents werent found in the wreckage This is just sooo sad...
I am glad you guys made an item for the very sad tragedy in Haiti. I see it all over the news and the poor people are trapped in rubble, very sad
Keith .... Thank you so very much for this lovely homage to the people of Haiti. (My family and I all donated by texting Haiti to 90999.) I was bawling my eyes out last night during Hope for Haiti - the loss of life and devastation are truly horrific! The shots of all the babies just had me crying the most. What a great way to add to the much needed awareness of these people!

Keith ... I have only been on Subeta for a short while but, I am honored to be a part of this wonderful site and your caring and thoughtful staff! Keep up the great job! Thank you!
The disaster in Haiti is truly heartbreaking and the survival stories coming to light are amazing. Thanks for doing this to help build awareness and to encourage people to help out where they can. Once again you guys shine.
This is lovely. Sometimes, just spreading awareness is an excellent way to contribute. Thank you.

I'm too young to donate with a credit card or paypal, but I'm going to get my parents to donate. The whole thing is just heartbreaking.
Doe
So nice. A wonderful way to show support and, hopefully, get people to donate something.

I donated a little, though it certainly wasn't enough to do anything, but just remember every little bit helps. c:
Amen.
Would I have an idea for you Keith; if we want to help, how it would be if you take the money of the GM and contribute it for Haiti? If you should start a proclamation, would be would found transfers it certainly many users to pay that ready währen a GM for 1 month and you the money then. Währe that a good suggestion? Natural that would have to become covered... It's just an Idea. ( sorry for the english, i use a onl. translator...)
oki
I feel kind of bad wearing the bird when I have nothing to donate.. but I guess if there was a disaster in my city, I would feel happy to know people all over the world were showing their support with little tokens like this even if they didn't donate.
This is such a beautiful way to symbolize our support.

My college has been raising money, and I've contributed what I can to that.
I'll definitely wear this bird as a symbol of my support.
It's very nice of you all to raise (even more) awareness about it.
Me being so young, I can't really donate money, but I was thinking about getting a money/item drive to send care packages.
Love the item, such a tragic happening.
Wonderful idea. Had to change my avatar focus for that.
I love the idea! <3
The MINUTE I get my new Blackberry Curve I'm gonna do that thing where you text HAITI to the Red Cross. I've been hoping to do it on my mom's phone, but she didn't pay her phone bill since she's getting a new phone too so hers has been disconnected. =( I'll pay the $10 to my phone bill myself.
I think Haiti as a country needs to be preserved, seeing as I read online that their independence was gained from holding the first successful slave revolt.
Seriously, the people who still think America is the country with the most problems after this should go live in Haiti. People in Port-Au-Prince (Haiti's capital city) are fighting and STEALING over any food they can find because there's so many more people there than any other part of the country.
Ugh, this is just terrible. A little boy was just recently found ALIVE after being hidden under a bunch of rubble for a week. That's insane, and I don't know if he found water somewhere under all the dirt and rocks and dust or what. :/
With all of the organizations and groups appearing in response to the Haitian crisis, it's important that everyone "does their homework" and checks out charities before donating. Charity Navigator (a great site that investigates and reviews various charities across the spectrum) has a specific area set-up to take a look at which groups are legitimate and which ones are opportunistic vultures. Make sure that your donations are getting there!
http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=1004

Huge props to Subeta for their support of these unfortunate people in their time of great need.
Oh my!

Such a sweet item with such a sweet idea behind it.
I wish I could help more then i already am
I'm going to add this bird to my Avatar right now
My school managed to raise over $13000 in 5 days, so I really think it's great that people have banded together to help.
Watching the stories on the news is really heartbreaking, I'll put the bird on asap
Very heartbreaking, it's so terrible that there's nothing I can do to help. I can't even donate blood
I wish I could help Haiti, But I can't so I'm going to put this bird onto my Avvie right now.
Mod
What a lovely item. I've already donated as much I could spare, as always I appreciate when you all make items like these. Thank-you.
The earthquake was really a horrible thing, so I think this is a good way to show your support. Thank you! I'll definitely wear this.

My class will have a cake sale on monday and donate money to a charity. Even the cafeteria will be closed so we can sell as much as possible to raise money for these poor people.
Freaking wearing this.

Poor Haiti. :c
;.; This is very touching. I'll wear my bird right now.
I will wear my bird constantly. It was a tragic event. Thanks for your support.
What a wonderful way to spread the word and help out, @Keith. I'm afraid I haven't got any extra money to spare, but my family and I have already given to the Hope for Haiti fund, so I feel a little better than if I'd done nothing at all. The bird is such a wonderful symbol. Thank you.
Ty so much for the pretty bird and I donated money and even gave my blood for them which is big for me cause I am scared of needles
There are numbers people can text to donate money to the relief fun. I won't post them here in fear for spam, but they're advertised EVERYWHERE. If you look, you'll find them.

Good luck, Haiti.
I work with people who came from Haiti and have lost family and friends in the earthquake.
I'm going to donate today to our relief fund.
OH I FEEL SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SORRY FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL TRAPPED, AND THE CHILDREN WHO ARE STARVING AND ARE HURT!!!!!!!!
This is so sweet, Subeta! ;_;
Damn, I wish I could donate something, but I'm not able to.
I made bracelets @ my club @ school.
Thanks for this . I love the bird.
Yesterday, we raised some money in the youth centre I volunteer at.
We braided peoples hair, and sold food and drinks and had a lottery .
Great to see how much people care
what a wonderful bird c: thanks for the link, too
i will wear my bird with pride for them as well as send many prayers and positive energy their way and to others that are in need.its terrible what is going on in the world now but we can help all the best we can when we can.
I donated blood - it's all I can afford to!

Awww, I love you, Subeta. <3
Love this. Thank you Subeta (:
We had a tag day (Wear our own clothes, cause we're in the UK with shitty uniforms) and had to pay for it last friday to raise money for Haiti, so did a load of other schools around here. I keep seeing all these new stories and it's awful. Someone had been trapped for 8 days with no food or water, all on her own and said that she was still alive because she had faith that she would be found
Wow (: Thanks guys. Our school collected 2700$ last week for Haiti (:
That is such a sweet tribute, Keith!
Ima wear it now
Thank you guys this is so awesome =) as usual of you to be so mindful and open hearted.
What a wonderful bird and news post.
Of course ill wear mine

The side is good at information. You but show arrived are; the entire things that at the airport, must distribute become urgently. I think is to be attended it better finally to the organization. Contributions are yet already enough underway and also arrived. It not yet can be hang remains that of all on the airport and die of thirst and starve the persons before the door. We happily should go being ourselves that it all well. Let's hope that we such a thing not even experience must.
Keith & Subeta
I am totally wearing this. Thanks, this really shows the people who will support Haiti.
While what happened in Haiti was tragic, I'm more concerned about the needy people in my own country, who have lived for years without help. Don't overlook their plight, either.

Great idea. I'm very pleased to see that Subeta tries to help.
As soon as I've earned some money from the etsy shop I'm working on, I'm going to donate some of the money to Haiti.
I'm going to wear the bird now. Thanks for the free gift.
SEA
This is really good of you to post this, and with a gift we can wear to show we are thinking of those people.
May the people who suffered this tragedy be safe and get better. Thanks for the link!
I changed my headshot to the bird. :3
I hope Haiti will be okay.

Thanks, Keith! The bird is a nice way to remind us that we must do what we can to help the people of Haiti.
You receive: Haiti Bird and 100 sP

Thanks
Our school is working also to donate money to Haiti.
We've raised around 1500 USD so far, with many many more fundraisers to come.
Hopefully we'll be able to help those in Haiti.
Lin
I've already donated some money to a few charities. One of my anthropology professors does ethnography work there so...

Maybe I can scrounge up a bit more.
I was watching the telethon yesterday and it was heartbreaking.
