Maybe Mattieu is male, but to me he *looks like* a butch lesbian who wants you to know she is butch, but who just happens to be into all the jewelry and trappings because she comes from a highly refined and civilized background and just can't let them go and knows in her heart that if *you* could have these items and the hair, you would so do it, too.
It's the vest. It is much too plain and heavy for a guy who has such a delicate and easily damaged, and beautiful blousy shirt to show off. It doesn't give Mattieu enough opportunity to show off enough bling to make the concealment worth his while, or if it does, he is wearing surprisingly little on it. It is flattening, but still rounded, which has the disadvantage that the viewer is does not have the possibility of being fooled that the blousy shirt conceals small breasts even-though-it-doesn't, but still implies by its curves that the whole upper body is feminine (...or weirdly contorted).
As for the prices of these items, they vend. WT would have to go through the roof for these items to retain anywhere near their list price in value. The prices will drop somewhat anyways just like Subeatique items do, for there are a number of us with discount cards.

Dang, these keep coming up as wizard quest items. If these won't deflate under official shop price, quests just got an annoying bit harder. There are so many of these and even the common ones cost 60k. (I do like the fact that they are expensive, though. We'll see how it affects the economy, and whether they deflate much from vending.)
