Graveyard Zasaba!

going to echo the "design is too safe" sentiment. i love the art, i think it's wonderful, and there are touches here and there of undead aspects. but i honestly think something further could have been done -- make the eyes look more dead, the skin look more wispy/dried out as a dead bug's would be, evidence of cordyceps infiltration, etc. i feel like the green coloring on the body itself is a little too vibrant as well. otherwise, it's solid, it just needs a little... more. (or less, i guess in this case).

very nice, though I think an opportunity was missed by not putting any parasitic fungi on it. It's not just ants that get cordyceps, but virtually every type of insect and arachnid that exists!

I didn't even notice this was a Graveyard pet at first. It doesn't HAVE to be gory, not all Graveyard pets are. In fact, I don't know that the design even really needs to be changed. One problem is that it's still too shiny, in fact it doesn't look much less shiny than the common, and that has the effect of making it look brighter and livelier than it should. And the pose is definitely part of the problem. The damaged limbs aren't very noticeable because they kind of blend in with the other limbs, but a different pose might fix that. The angelic, glade, and nightmare zasabas prove that dynamic poses CAN be done with this species. Also I personally like the idea of it looking like someone actually did pull a wing off, but that's just me.

People disappointed this doesn't have rotting flesh and organs hanging out need to remember how exoskeletons work.

While I wouldn't be bothered by a bit more on this one, I'm part of the group that thinks it's fine as is. Graveyard pets are not inherently grotesque and gory. I counted less than half that I'd consider grotesque and I'm a squeamish person. Let the people who don't like intestines have an undead pet. Subeta's unliving population isn't inherently gory either? It runs the gamut from Skitters to Gunner so I don't see how this isn't graveyard. Other people have also summarized how I feel about the fact that there's not much you can do to a bug that hasn't already been done. As far as posing goes, artistically speaking the Zasaba is a square bug. By that I mean it takes up a huge amount of the free space in the overlay box. I understand that can be hard to pose. Whatever the case, I like this little bugger.

Looks like he came home from a hard day's work and the wife is chewing his head off about how he never spends time with her...
Heh, see what I did there

I like the idea of no head, but it's still a fun, dead bug as it is~
Specimen pins stuck through it might have ramped up the "it's dead" angle too. (you know, like how people pin butterflies. I'm sure there is a word for that.)
hm. But the illumis is already like that, and the kumos is also missing its head, but i'm still going to leave this. I guess there are only so many quick ways to undead things.
Well... unless we squashed it. like the terracoon. :P

Like, for every user here who's saying it's not Graveyard "enough," there's another user who's saying that it's one of the only Graveyard pets they like. Variety is a good thing!

Personally, I think it's nice to have a mix of more and less gory Graveyard pets. A super gory pet isn't going to fit everyone's story idea, and the same goes for a less gory pet. I wanted to make an Unliving activist type pet for awhile, and eventually I decided to go the cute angle and made Zakie, a young Unliving Clawsion who is all like ... super excited to teach everyone about Unliving, and he has a crush on Rachelle who helps sew him back up and stuff.
If I'd decided to go with an adult and more serious pet instead, I'd have picked one like this. I'm actually kind of tempted to make a Graveyard Zasaba who's an older, grumpier, more jaded Unliving activist counterpart to Zakie.
Anyway, gory pets wouldn't fit for them. They're Unliving, not roadkill. But for other pet ideas, roadkill is what's needed. It's unfortunate the gore level (... lol?) that people want for a pet doesn't match up with the species they want, but at least this way it'll work out *some* of the time.
I have a Graveyard Wyllop, too, and I feel like she's at the right amount of gore for her "escaped from animal testing lab" backstory (yeah, I know a million people have probably given their Graveyard Wyllops that story, but this one is mine).

I'm not usually a fan of this particular color but I LOVE this Zasaba! The pose and expression make me think of Zorak and personally I'm glad it's not too grotesque.

I like the pose and I'm glad he's not not too gross. Poor little Zasaba, I wouldn't pull your wings off! :)

Ooh I love it! I'll probably change a pet to it soon aaa. I admittedly like how it's less morbid than the others (I'm a weeny), but I love the cordyceps idea!

It's beautifully colored and the linework is nice, but like others it doesn't really come across as a graveyard pet. Maybe a missed opportunity by not having it more frayed, missing parts rather than just having them broken, and maybe cordyceps growing from it? Cordyceps is nightmarish body horror in and of itself.

Very underwhelming. I'd have loved to seen more risks taken. Like, half of its mouth missing or torn up; a missing eye, or torn up abdomen with organs hanging out. Maybe even one of its wings hanging off.

i was going to leave my two cents, but @sentinel pretty much took the words out of my mouth
next to all the other graveyard pets it just looks so...clean

This lil bugger is unfortunately a little underwhelming for me. :( I really like the direction it's going, but I wish the graveyard aspect of it was pushed way more. There's a lot of fun stuff you could do with bug guts, the missing head thing [user="Lantern and homestuck mentioned, and things like that (which as gross as it is, would put it more in line with graveyard). And you could definitely tame it down to a less gross level while still pushing the design further. It just feels a little static and underwhelming. I dunno, right now it feels closer to a color fill with some missing limbs to me than a special color? I think what sets the illumis and bumbus apart for me is that they have a little more personality and are dynamic in their posing.

I love how it looks like it had one fuck to give, and now it's just 10000% done with everyone's shit. XD

I love the "Gee, thanks!" expression on its face!
It isn't as grotesque compared to the other graveyard pets out there but I can imagine depicting dead bugs is a lot more difficult in comparison to vertebrates. Maybe if it's limbs or wings were hanging off more it could work, but I think it's fine. :)

That’s not to say it had to be overly gross or anything. The GY Illumis comes to mind: it looks haggard and just done with, exactly what I’d expect of a GY pet. This could have some of those details to really make it stand out.

I think this is perfect for this pet... it’s not “lacking” anything for being a graveyard pet. Look at Graveyard Bumbus... it’s the same in “lacking”. It’s a insect, not a animal... it doesn’t have the same anatomy to mess with like a animal does to make it “grotesque” like people are wanting.
Tbh... it’s refreshig to see some of them not being so grotesque. I can’t stomach looking at half of them if not more and yes I know it’s part of the color and that’s the point. Doesn’t mean everyone has to like the level of grotesque used to put the point across. Something can be undead and not grotesque.
Anyways. I approve this graveyard, it makes sense for what it is like I said.

The art is really nice, but I agree—so much could have been done here but the design feels pretty safe I guess.

This design is definitely less grotesque than other graveyard pets which is exactly why I love it! (Not everyone wants a detailed reminder of their dead pet or an unfortunate road kill victim.
It's nice to have a few less horror-esque graveyard pets to choose from in addition to the traditional gore.) Excellent shading, color coordination, and very highly detailed design! I love how this species boasts the new level of detail and complexity we're coming to expect from new Subeta art. Kudos to the artist who drew this who is keeping the standard high! ♥️ On a side note, I'm not normally a bug or graveyard pet fan, yet I love this design enough to make an exception! :) Thank you artist for your hard work!

I see why people are saying it's not much graveyard, but well... its a bug, it doesn't have flesh or blood. Besides, it has some missing legs and antenna and damaged wings

I like the description. But the zasaba is not one of my favorite pets, sorry. too many stripes? lines? i don't know what i dislike about it.
but. yay, more colors for this pet... and its fans ;)

Considering the way the other graveyard pets look (fairly grotesque) This one is a bit lackluster. Cracked wings, broken antennae and foot and one claw? Meh... not very graveyard-y. But, ok.
