I do know they are allowed in this sort of thing because that. I was more just bringing up my qualms with all the comments here asking for that ban as cw to be lifted ;)

Now that this comment section has slowed down, I wanted to make a closing statement of sorts
I'm sure some people are already sick of seeing me here lol, but this is directed more at the winners, entrants, and artists more than anything else.

To the winners of the contest, a big congratulations! Your entries are all beautiful in their individuality and technical execution, and I know I'll be using a lot of them frequently from now on. There's been a lot of backlash surrounding this contest, but I truly believe that that spawns from a vocal minority. If you can, focus on the good and all of the people who are excited and happy for your win and your items, and tune out the bad. Taking criticism is an important skill for an artist, but insults are not the same as criticism.

To the entrants who didn't win, know that your entries were all deserving of praise and were wonderful. I hope you'll hold onto them, either to submit in a later contest or to make into custom wearables! The fact is, there were so many entries and only a select few could win, so the staff did their best to pick, but that doesn't mean it was an easy decision! You all did great. <3

To artists who were too timid to enter just yet, or people who entered but didn't make it into the final voting, hone your skills and keep trying! I hope you won't give up due to this one experience or because of the response to the items in this contest. I hope that if there's a contest like this in the future, you'll be able to muster the courage to enter, be it for the first time or a second go. <3

Putting your art out there for everyone to see takes a lot of strength, and it can be incredibly hard, so mad props to everyone who did this time around.
Thank you artists for participating, and bringing your unique skills to the table. :)

@ShadowyIce
I totally understand! I don't really know what reasoning staff has for not allowing facial features, but I think it works out just fine in the end. Right now it's really expensive to submit CW items to the site, so most likely if CW makers WERE allowed to submit them, we would have to charge a lot more than even a Delish eye/mouth/etc item to make our money back. That wouldn't be fun for us, and it wouldn't be fun for users/potential buyers either. So keeping them a staff-exclusive item works out for everyone. :)
1

Galadriel

@Tartelette I completely understand the rules and I'm not saying that the staff is just going to suddenly allow facial CWs. I'm just trying to give a little perspective on maybe WHY they don't allow facial CWs and why they shouldn't. I think maybe part of it is they do want to keep that part still nice for those users who don't get a lot of time on here or who don't have money to spend on a webgame. It's one of just a few things where the regular users are on equal ground as those with GAs or lots of CSC (although, there's still Delish which is plenty exclusive enough).
0

Tartelette

@ShadowyIce @Taters
I don't think you should worry about staff suddenly allowing face item CWs, as they've said (at least to CW makers, I can't remember if they've mentioned it publicly somewhere) that facial features aren't allowed. I think it's because of this rule that they decided to allow the submission of facial features for this contest, and ended up choosing so many. It's a rare treat for CW makers to be able to submit this sort of thing.

If you (or anyone else!) are curious about what items CW makers ARE allowed to submit you can look over the Custom Clothing Create page (there's a dropbox called Type of Item) . If you have any other questions about CWs, please ask me! I love talking about the CW market and spreading good info about it.
0

Navem

Damn. Not a single item I voted for won.
3

StarShadow

I have to admit that while all the entries were wonderful, I don't see a single item I want to buy/wear so that will save me some tokens. Just hope that a couple of the other entries come out as CWs so I can buy and wear those.
5

Galadriel

@Taters I completely agree. It's so hard to afford any Cash Shop or CW items as is. I just don't have the money to spend on a webgame that is only pixels! I'm good with all the clothing and stuff that are CWs. There's gotta be some exclusivity in a game like this, otherwise it wouldn't be any fun. I just feel like if facial features were added to that exclusive bracket, all the nice items would be completely unattainable for normal people who have lives outside of Subeta. Nothing against those who pay for CSC or have lots of nice CWs, it's just that it would take away some of the nice things that the regular users still have who can't afford CSC or CWs.

Just my thoughts
2

Reptile

i love all the items
but there are so many face winners
3

wraith

@Saint

Thanks for your response, I feel it's worth pointing out that one of the reasons people wanted some more winners wasn't just because of a lack of gender-neutral items, but also due to a lack of overall variety: All 5 of the facial feature items we got were eyes, and 3 of them were very similar in colour - They were all fantastic items, and I don't think anybody is upset about those items being on site. What people seem to be upset about is just that we didn't get anything else, no noses or mouths or anything, and some very similar "natural" eye colours between 3 items.

In any case, it's very disappointing to hear that there won't be any more winners for this contest. So I hope we do at least get more contests like this in the future, I feel that users don't get nearly enough opportunity to make eyes/facial features so hopefully the reaction to this contest hasn't discouraged more of them.

Tartelette

Hey staff!!! I would super love to see a list of all the accepted entries with their artists/submitters credited, so that we can all appreciate the hard work that went into all the entries, and instead of just the ones that won.

I see a lot of negativity in this thread regarding CWs and the CW community, and the first way we can combat that is by crediting the awesome artists that tried their best to make Masq more fun and give the site more cool items. Maybe if some of the grumblers recognize a user or two that they know, they'll feel a little more generous about the whole affair. Plus! A lot of us are hoping to see future releases of some of the remaining items, so it would be nice to be able to be on the lookout for/encourage those artists!

Thank youuuuuu <3

Coraychi

@Akarubi
Staff picks were made after voting, and user votes still had sway on what was chosen.
4

Akarubi

Out of curiosity, Why were items that were (apparently) already winners for being staff picks left in the voting pool?
I think everything I voted for was picked by the staff anyway.
1

Taters

Idk how face turned to bade. But wow that was my fail.

Also I think the body mods and all are fine as cw. To me they arent "necessities"
Everyone uses faces. So everyone should have sp access to em.
3

Taters

Not gonna lie, I dont mind the no eyes/mouth/nose cw policy. There is enough issue getting even the makeup I want with limited items and privates. All I can see happening is people making amazing eyes and things no one who isnt elite in the cw world will ever get.

Unless a rule is made that facial items are unlimited, It just seems like bade items of this sort need to be available to all users. Even those who dont get csc/arent able to get privates.
It does suck to not have user face items made, something should happen with that as more contests...etc. like one for just lips instead of holiday theme.

I just realllly loathe the limited idea with items of that nature. Makeup/brows is one thing, but actual facial parts should be official to allow anyone to get them.

Im sure my opinion is the unpopular one, but with all the exclusivity of cws recently myself and many others arent buying as much. Nor can newbies and younger folks with out csc get the chance.

Idk. Just my thoughts. -flies away to the land of hope that cws being unlimited and not just about profit could be a thing-
11

Saint

hello everyone! i'd like to address a lot of the feedback that was given here - first of all, i'd like to say that we do appreciate feedback on events in order to improve them in the future. :) so thank you for letting us know how you feel!

- re: noses and mouths - while there will be no additional winners added to this particular contest pool, it is apparent that more gender neutral facial features are something you guys want to be available and we have heard you, and will keep this in mind for the future! as for this contest, however - they just weren't popular enough to have made it to the top ten.

- for those worried about the Fashion Star Sticker, it's not a retired item completely exclusive to this contest, and may pop up as a prize in the future.

- providing rejection feedback for this contest, even basic feedback, was not and will not be possible for contests of this nature due to low time and staff resources. with the number of submissions we received, even basic denial reasons would have taken up a large amount of time!

and, to address the inability to submit your noses, eyes, and mouths that didn't make it into the top ten - make sure you keep your files somewhere, there may be opportunities in the future to use them.
20

Valiska

(don't get me wrong, I own giant cat butts...I'm just not sure why altering the FACE is such a big deal)
1

Valiska

Can we just kill the rule about not allowing facial features as CWs?

I don't understand why this is a rule to begin with. Why is it okay to do giant cat butts with flowers sprouting out of their tails but a simple mouth is not okay? It might have made sense once upon a time when people used the base mouth/eyes/noses that are on those layers, but, uh, I don't, except for my main character's eyes that I would like to have a CW for, because while they are perfect, the fact that they are base items means that they are at risk of being "revamped".
8

HeadPhonz

@elka
ohh...my little heart just broke hearing (or rather, reading) that ;_; dangit that's a silly rule if you ask me

@Princess
please do continue to submit it! ;-; or let me know if they ever get rid of that rule! i will Definitely keep an eye out for it because i use the cece lip balm all the time as well! but yours was such a lovely option for more of a smile without it being one of those way too big and crazy looking ones that are all over the site ;-; ugh i don't wanna smile so big lol but thank you for letting me know! (i really did love it)

Marcus

Is it possible to see all the entries that people could vote on? I forgot which items I voted for and want to make note of them in case their creators try and re-release them as CWs.

Congrats to the winners!

Quote by Jasper:
Someone else brought up the fact that it's against the rules for CW's to replace eyes, lips, noses, etc. When is this rule going to be abolished and why was it ever a rule in the first place?
Yeah, this is a stupid fucking rule to have in place. What logic is there in that? Has it ever been made clear why CWs cannot change facial features? If you allowed it, then contests like this could have more varied results instead of everyone taking this opportunity to bypass a shit rule.
And I say this as someone who does not give a shit about CWs herself, but does still care about art and those who do support CWs regardless.
8

Kestrel

There's a couple I would loved to have seen added to the list of winners, but I can't feel disappointed over any of these, I like them all for one reason or another.

I don't even care that mine wasn't chosen, it needed some refining anyway. I'm just hoping we have another contest soon so I can try, try again.
1

Nami

The moon crown won, I don't care about anything else, this is my favorite item now.
0

Valiska

@Daneyule In no way did I mean to imply that the situation with mouth items was unique. I do a lot of cosplay avatars for contests, for use in RPs and for my own amusement, so even though I'm this feline character 90% of the time when you see me in the forums, I make avatars in all those categories that I mentioned.

I mean, I do want male lace and frills and embellishments just as much as female, because that's my taste (you probably won't be surprised that I'm a lolita IRL, and one of those silly frillies who finds a way to work brand into work outfits and everyday as well as doing meets), but we need a much wider variety of masculine clothing for every style.

Masculine clothing for events like Vesnali often seems to be an afterthought at best--Vesnali could use a lot more dapper stuff, the only offerings for dudes seem to be pastel prep and when we get those fabulous 1950s dresses we should have the masc/butch outfits that go with them. Suits that look like suits dudes actually wear would be great. I don't think that I have ever seen anyone in the real world wear a full floral print suit who wasn't fem-presenting and those people usually wear skirts.
7

Kenobi

Congratulations to all the winners!

Really excited that the three I voted for went through, especially the gorgeous wings.
0

Galadriel

@cAIn @Vindoweld Yes, I totally agree! I feel like the artists did such an amazing job that there should be something to let them put their items on-site. I was honestly really looking forward to having at least one of those mouths.

@Inari No, you're not the only one. I have no idea what I would use it for, but it was so pretty!
2

wraith

@Vindoweld I like the idea of an exception being made for the items that made it to the finals, too, for being added as CWs. That way they could still get on site but the other users would still get to keep their wins and have their items be "official". Not sure what the staff would think of that suggestion but for what it's worth it's one I support.
3

Vindoweld

@cAIn I can't agree more! While the winners are gorgeous, it would be really mice to have more variety, especially when it's about facial items which we can't get as CWs later... There were the ones I'd really love to get like cat nose and those lime yellow eyes withouy brows and eyelashes (sadly can't remember the name, but I really loved it and wished it could make it through) - for more gender neutral HAs, cause all of the current items are more on feminine side. Or maybe it will be possible to allow those facial items as CWs in exception?
3

Poet

I'm sort of sad we get 3 eye items that look the same tho :(
11

Naddi

@daneyule AAA THANK YOU!!!! I second your opinion on masculine items, I was really aiming to create a gender neutral eyes with my submission there but in the end they still ended up looking more feminine than expected ;; I still can't believe my second attempt at cw ever made on the site, and if I get around to actually take part in regular cw creation I promise to make some items to fit the dudebro aesthetics! ;D
5

Bro

@Valiska "There really IS an extreme dearth of mouth items on this site that are suitable for avatars who are meant to be men, boys, NB people, butch women & girls, and children"

How you feel about the current mouth selection is how I feel about literally EVERY other HA item category . :') I could make fem HAs that look 10x more beautiful than my dude-bro outfits because the selection is just 1000% better. So many artists, & so many submissions.. yet how many submissions did I get to vote for that catered to my masc gay meathead preference... lol the answer is 0, sis. But, I still voted for the entries because there were some really good ones - just none that were suited for me. I totally feel your pain. lmao!

Not really in the loop or cliques, & not really sure of the CW-submission rules regarding no facial feature entries. There has to be some juicy backstory explaining this decision, right? Anyone have clarification on this rule? Perhaps staff should have voted on the 5 super-duper-elusively-exclusive (and policed?) facial-HA submissions themselves, and then allowed users to vote on the remaining 5 clothing/wearables.

"Staff is picking 5 facial items as winners by default, then choosing 4/5 winners for the remaining clothing options. The users themselves can then collectively vote on just one favorite from all submissions." gurl, WHAT? lmao.

Gratz to @Czar! It's lovely. Well done! Also to @Naddi, for the sexiest winning eyes in the lineup!
5

Shadowfax

well congrats to the winners. I'm a bit sad none of my picks won :P Some of the other entries were great.
1

Coraychi

@Jasper
When the contest was first announced, it was clearly stated that 5 of the winners would be facial features.
And saying that some of the winning entries "aren't exactly worthy" is unnecessary and considering nothing can be done about it now, seems rather malicious.
11

Inari

Congrats to all the winners :)

But: Am I the only one who is disappointed that the Stardust Spyglass didn't make it? I'm almost always short on CSC, but I would LOVE to see that top as a CW on site :heart:
2

Rick

Omg my favourite won :o

Ridiculously Posh Sleeves are just perfect *___* I will use it for sure! Congratz @czar
0

Lovely

As great as they all are... it would be nice if once we voted on them they all made it into wardrobe from there and we were just voting for who gets what prize. It's so hard knowing what we didn't get. I mean those noses! :flushed:
6

forcryinoutloud

Congratulations to the winners.

Bit disappointed only one of the ones I voted for won. Also a bit disappointed that there is so little variety in what was chosen as winners. Has nothing to do with the art of said winners - everything is great, it would just be nice to see a bit more diversity in what is being made available, instead of so many variations of the same thing.
10

Valiska

@cherub If I show something to a lot of people, most of whom I don't even know, and ask their opinion of whether or not it should be placed in a shop for people to purchase, that's hardly the same as showing my personal sketchbook to one of my friends, and I do not feel I should expect the same response.
4

cherub_730

@Valiska

the difference between staff artists and this is that...this is a contest. people want to be excited about their entries. people want to be excited about winning. when you go into the comments and see negativity about something you took time to make, it hurts as an artist. frankly, it doesn't matter if people "intend" to hurt our feelings or not. when you make art purely for fun, or for a contest, it sucks to see loads of people talk about how boring or underwhelming it is. i'm sorry if this makes you feel ~pressured to be positive~, but this simply is not comparable to staff releasing items, as the staff is paid to release items and they are paid to take feedback into account because that is literally their job. (NOT to say they should have to put up with people being entitled or rude, i just mean that criticism on site items is simply more meaningful as it means they know what users want for future items)

is it wrong to have negative opinions? no. however, that doesn't mean that people shouldn't be mindful about who is reading their comments. it's like if you made something, showed someone, and their reaction to your face was "gee, that sucks". i don't understand why it's controversial to say that's rude or that people should maybe be a bit more thoughtful about what they post on public spaces when it comes to user generated content.
15

Jasper

Oh lord, those staff picks.

Nothing against the artists that made them but I'm with everyone else on this; it's not fair that it's this many and some of them aren't exactly worthy in my eyes.

I see some didn't find it fair that the staff picked from the same pile of items we were voting for. It is and it isn't but I side with them, especially since the staff can't seem to pick anything that isn't from the face layer. (Although, given how many actually made it into the final draw, I suppose we all should've seen this coming. Not excusing the staff by any means, this was disappointing to see and you all should've done better when it came to your picks.)

Someone else brought up the fact that it's against the rules for CW's to replace eyes, lips, noses, etc. When is this rule going to be abolished and why was it ever a rule in the first place?
17

Coraychi

@Valiska
Like I said, agree to disagree.
1

wraith

Hey so, I'm gonna suggest something a bit wild...

Would anybody really be opposed if we got a "round 2 of winners" post?

I mean, a common consensus between many of the posts I'm seeing here is that "these items are good, but there really isn't enough variety" - especially between the facial features, all 5 of which are eyes and 3 of which are very similar in colour and shape. The clothing items that didn't win (like the rift cloak and the pumps that can be held and stuff) which seemed to be popular can, at the very least, still make it on site as CWs. But when it comes to facial features, I feel like a lot of people - myself included - were really excited to see some cool user-made content in that category, and while the stuff that got picked is good, I think a lot of us would have appreciated more of it.

So if there's even a slim possibility of seeing more than 10 of the items chosen in a kind of "follow up" announcement for winning items, would anybody complain about it? Just putting the out there.
15

Valiska

@Coraychi well, it may be a difference in POV and personal experience. I don't think "constructive criticism" was anyone's intention, which is just as well, because it's not like your concrit is going to help anyone much once an entry's already been submitted. The negative comments are just plain negative.

But that doesn't make them mean or derogatory. People are allowed to not like things. It's not wrong to have negative opinions.

I don't see any intention to hurt the artists...just opinions about the items, and mostly opinions about the number of items that were eyes/eyemake.

People are salty about the stuff the staff artists produce as well, and they're also people. I've been super salty about the lack of frills this Masquerade and will continue to be.

There is a LOT of pressure on people in the news comment threads to be positive about stuff they don't like. It needs to go away. When the staff can ask for suggestions for new frizzlebits, and a commenter literally comes at them with 'what's wrong with the frizzlebits we already have? why don't you like the heart eyes frizzlebit? why are you so entitled?' there's a problem.

If someone is being intentionally hurtful, or trying to hurt someone personally, that's not okay, but nobody should have to pretend that they think everything's great when they actually don't.

a bit sad NO mouth won....
I really want a greater variety of mouths

*sigh*

congatz to the winners
only one of my three picks won - which shows how not fitting I am
5

Princess

@HeadPhonz
Hi! I made that item! If we're ever allowed to submit facial features, I'll definitely be putting it onsite! Or I'll just submit it to every contest with a different item image until it wins. :smirk:
I love the cece lipbalm and use it all the time, but made this in hopes of having a more obvious smile option and more variety in my avatars. So sad, but hopefully we get more basic and gender neutral mouth options in the meantime. :(
5

elka

@Aquabreeze all face items
0

Taiho

Well at least my favorite eyes won. I really wanted that blue sleeved top for the non-face items though. Hope whoever drew that releases it the normal CW way.
0

Aquabreeze

@elka what about the other eye items? Is it just mouths that aren't allowed outside contests or is it all face items?
1

elka

@HeadPhonz CW releasers are not allowed to make mouths outside of contests T_T so that won't happen

@Aquabreeze every item that was not a face item (for the reason mentioned above) could potentially be released by the creator (or buyer) - for instance mine was the Found Steamwork Halo and if people want it, I will put it out. Otherwise, the items are no longer "CWs" are are *already* distributed, they are now Subeta items and you can already buy them in the Steamwork Menagerie shop as the News post says n_n
3

Ramby

Congrats to all the talented winners!! And congrats to the non winners cause yall are all so talented that entered so you still won in a way with your talent :)
0

loopa

Thank everyone for participating!! And totally thanks to you czar for your posh sleeves, lept on them immediately!!
0

Aquabreeze

Will the ones that didn't make the cut be available in any form? Also how will the winning CWs be distributed?
2

Cordyceps_sapiens

Well, neither of the two items I kinda liked won. Are there going to be some achievement or anything? Otherwise, I congratulate the winners, but will leave the items be.
0

HeadPhonz

there was an open smile-type item (something along the lines of the Cece Coast Orange Lip Balm) that didn't make it. i can't remember the name but if you made that item and release it as a cw, please tell me! it's the only item i really wanted!! ;_; please!!
0

Elysium

I'm just going to say, I don't think that most of these eyes are that different from what we already have between the Delish and Subeautique lines. They don't come across as Masquerade in anything but the item art.
19

Sap

One of my votes made it in (:

Kind of bummed that beautiful grey tones lip didn't make it in.

All were amazing entries!
3

Lily

Congrats to all the winners! Most of the stuff I voted for is in there, but a little bummed not to see any of the steampunk arms!
0

Kue

Dang, literally none of my votes made it..
5

TheseHeights

Really happy for the people who were chosen, but goddamn am I bummed some of the others weren't made into real items
4

Drayk

Whole buncha...brown eyes.
10

Dracona

wow lots of eyes.... at least one I voted for won... the telescope!
2

Pinocchio

That awkward moment when none of the ones you voted for won. :sob: Congrats to the winners though!
8

Arbor

Congrats winners! I do kind of wish half of the winning items weren't eyes, because it feels a little ... redundant? I guess? But then you have to bear in mind how many entries were eyes, laughs. They're all beautiful though, can't fault any single one of these for being picked. ♥
7

FCoD

Congrats to all the entrants and the winners. So much talent! :)

I hope there are more contests like this.
2

Noelle

All three items I voted for won! I'm so excited as those were the ones I liked the best. :)
1

DevilsRider

I really liked the pumps that you could hold. Too bad it didn't win. Congratz to the winners though! These are great
3

Diana_Marie

None of the items I voted for won. I wish they had more facial expressions. Nose, lips, eyes are always the same boring thing. Closed or angry eyes with tons of makeup on. Lips are pouty, sexy or angry. Highfalutin same old stuff no matter what the category. Fantasy or not I would like some regular old facial expressions like joy or excitement and some regular fashion.
18

Cathii

Aw man, my item is in there! ♥️

I read through some of the comments, and I just want to say this : considering the limited amount of eyes I personally like to wear, and because I wanted something that was super versatile (I originally had a pale blue version and a light pink as well), I decided to go for an eye color that would match more items. Considering it's one of the only chances we have, as cw artists, to submit facial features, I frankly didn't want to offer a piece that felt so constraining as far as layering and color matching goes. I dont know, maybe if we had more contests (or if cw artists were finally allowed to submit facial features), we'd have a greater diversity. I vote more cw contests personally!

Congrats to all the winners, and all the people who submitted art for this contest, all the entries were really nice ♥️
17

Juke

Aw yis, all three of the items I voted for won! Very very pleased and excited to fit these fun new pieces into my wardrobe! <3 Congrats everyone!
1

Coraychi

@Valiska
If you aren't seeing what I'm seeing, I guess I can't do much about that, so that's fine.
I went more into detail (3 times) on what I was seeing that was rude in my eyes when talking with Cerulean, so if you still want to try and understand my POV on this, you can read through those but otherwise I'd say we just have to agree to disagree.
0

Ying

So many great entries, I hope staff continues to run these CW contests, we get some creative stuff.

I wish more rift/lower ziaran stuff had won. The floating shoes were pretty fun!

Perhaps in the future there can be separate categories for makeup and non-makeup - I'm not sure if the winning ratio reflected the ratio of entries.. but still..
9

Valiska

@Coraychi I guess I'm just not seeing the meanness you're talking about anywhere here.

@Faizh I mentioned it because after the conversation we had before I thought, idk.
2

Synth

Congrats to all the winners! Everything is beautiful. Personally, I'm just SO glad the telescope won...it is by far my favorite item and it's so rare that the thing I vote for actually ends up winning. X'D (Although I don't really understand how the voting was done; I had assumed the ones picked by staff were selected ahead of time and not present in the voting list but whatever, it worked out I guess haha.)

The only one I picked are the sleeves. I'm glad they made it, but, sad for the others. Congrats, winner!

SongSparra

Want to congratulate ALL the entrants and ALL the winners, in my opinion you are all winners as you all posses the talent to do something I am completely unable to do so well done to you ALL!
I also want to thank everyone who par took in the event as if it wasn't for you we wouldn't have ended up with any items at all, so thank you so much!
5

Jules

Nothing I voted for, oh well lol!!
Congratulations to all the winners!!! :)
6

jerr

Congratulations to all the winners! a tad sad my eyes didn't get in, but all in all these wins were well deserved and gorgeous!♥
(even the ones that weren't picked, ya'll did incredible too! was a tough vote, and hope to see some as CWs)
1

Desilyna

Congrats to the winners. I don't care for most of the items myself, but obviously others do. Some of the eyes that were chosen I didn't vote for because they look very similar to ones we already have.
10

Aelosselys

Wonderful job everyone!

And whomever made the golden filigree looking bg/fg item... hit me up I'd love to commission somethings similar!
3

Congratulations to the winners!

@Valiska
No, I agree with that, and those comments aren't what I'm referring to. I apologize if that's how I came across at any point.
People are more than welcome to express that they're disappointed that their vote didn't win, or that there were no mouth or nose items included in the winners circle. I myself really liked the cat nose, and a couple of the lip items I know I would have gotten some use out of for sure.

I only take issue with the comments that are insulting, putting down, and discrediting the work of the other winners or entrants.
Feelings being hurt is not an inevitability, it's the result of people not being sensitive enough to the feelings of those around them to not cause that damage. And just because someone enters a public contest does not mean they deserve to be insulted. Opinions will be shared, but they don't need to be attacks.
8

Valiska

@Coraychi If you submit something to be sold to the general public you need to be prepared for people to have opinions on it. And the people who won probably are also smart enough to understand that the people who are angry that so many eyes won and no noses or mouths won (especially the cat nose and gender neutral lips that this site BADLY NEEDS) are not specifically angry about their particular item, but about the proportions.

I'm sorry that people's feelings are getting hurt, but it's also one of those things that is kind of inevitable. None of these items was made as a present for any of the people who are feeling salty.

@Truffula is right. The noses and mouths should go up in the shop as an unexpected bonus.

There really IS an extreme dearth of mouth items on this site that are suitable for avatars who are meant to be men, boys, NB people, butch women & girls, and children (in other words, people who don't wear brightly coloured lipsticks, either because that's not their preferred gender presentation and/or their parents would make them wash it off). Of these, a lot of them either show the mouth in a grimace or a smirk rather than a neutral expression, and many of them barely suggest the existence of lips.
26

Anubis

Darn, wanted the thick lips to be one of the chosen. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. Congrats to thw winners!
8

Sarie

Congrats all! I really loved all the items. My only wish is that the eyes came in multiple colors *hint hint* I mean it would still be one item right?
1

Faizh

@Valiska I really don't know why you are saying it. It's more to be a personal taste, ''I don't like it'' doesnt offend. I know that people have other opinions, but that does not stop me from giving my opinion respectfully, right?
2

Wichapi

All the items were amazing and the designers are very talented but I wish we would have gotten more variety on what the judges picked. There were so many eye items chosen and two look very similar.
9

Devil

Who made the wallflower lipstick? :kissing_closed_eyes: I was secretly rooting for it above the rest, although I might have been the only one lmao.
2

@Nini ah, you made the toon face? That was one of my three votes, just wanted to say that I really enjoyed seeing it.
1

meowth

nothing i voted for won,, weh
9

WhiterWinter

I am loving
Steampunk Contact Case
and
Embroidered Blindfold
in combination. I have them on together. I voted for the sleeves, but the choices were so good it was hard to pick my top three.
0

Devil

I'm happy at least one of my faves are in the wins :D Congratulations to all the artists and their hard work! This was such a COOL contest and I loved every second.

Here's to hoping that maybe some of those that didn't win will be able to become actual CWs... *hint hint*
2

TaintedTamer

Really sad the ones I was fond of didn't make it, but these are some pretty items.
0

usagi

I think future contests should have more items chosen.

Also, for what it's worth -
I think people are understandably frustrated by lack of nose and lip representation in a facial items category.
Now if this was purely based on votes cast, I can see how staff could be forced to choose the top 5, but these were staff picks, so it's not really a surprise people were expecting more variety in terms of facial item type.
It also has nothing to do with 3 of the eyes being dark colors or sort of similar (I mean, they aren't when individually compared, they all have a distinct style).
Also, the eye winners shouldn't feel bad about this. It's not their fault what staff chose and certainly all eye items look amazing and they should be proud of their work.
The criticism is chiefly aimed at staff picks, not the art, although it's easy to get confused and I wouldn't be surprised if the eye artists are like uhh let me enjoy my win please? But yeah, I think giving feedback about staff picks is necessary even if it dampens the parade somewhat.
39

Galadriel

@mei I honestly loved it so much! Part of what I was looking for when I voted was creative but simple stuff that looked professional (and like Cash Shop material). Yours definitely fit the bill! The name and art of the actual item was really creative, and it looked so pretty on the avatar. If I could buy it, I would! Yours and the Embroidered Blindfold were the two I most hoped would win. Glad the Blindfold got through, but yours was on the same level!
3

mei

@ShadowyIce the shell casing was mine! it was more on the plain side so i honestly didn’t expect anyone to notice it, much less vote for or remember it, so the shout-out makes me happy :)
3

Aline

I'm a bit sad the one I liked the most didn't win, but I'm happy there were so many amazing choices. Congratulations to the winners!

Coraychi

@Cerulean

I believe I have a grasp of the difference between constructive criticism and opinions.
I haven't seen any constructive criticism on this topic, aside from ideas for the staff on how contests like this should be run in the future. (Which is fine, I take no issue with that, just as a disclaimer.) One way or the other though, people should know when their opinion or criticism is even necessary. No, opinions shouldn't be banned, don't fly off the handle when I never insinuated any such thing, but it is up to the user to have discretion in when they need to share their opinion.
I believe that if an opinion brings someone down rather than benefits them or anyone else, then it is one that is best kept to oneself.

On my second point, I was originally talking about this post. Then when you seemed to disagree that posts here were negative, I brought up those from the last post as well. I was saying that you need not look beyond this post for negativity, but that there was plenty in the last news post about the contest as well.

Again, I believe insulting art is more complex than just "this sucks and I hate it" but I've already gone into detail on that so.

I didn't call out anyone specifically, though. It's up to you if you want to look through the comments and see who said what, but I didn't mention anyone by name, quote an entire post, ping someone or anything like that. And, other people on the last news post had said similar things of too many entries being "the same squinting eyes" etc. so that wasn't exclusively about one person either.
Once again, I consider claiming a piece of art is unoriginal to be a form of insulting that piece and saying all the winners are "squinty eyes" would fall under that. It doesn't matter what word they use or what the descriptor is, it could be "feminine eyes", "soft eyes", "big eyes", what have you, it's still discrediting the creativity and individuality of the art and the artists.

The reason it's different in this case for people to criticize the items however is that these are not staff made items. When it comes to giving feedback and opinions on things staff make (official items, events, plots or otherwise) they are likely hoping for user feedback. They are looking out for what their userbase wants, as that's essentially their job. (Though people are overly entitled to the staff on here as is, but that's a topic for another day) However our feedback is not going out to staff here, it's going to people who play the site as users and who entered a contest for fun/prizes. They not only cannot do ANYTHING with this feedback but let it make them feel bad about their work, as they can't resubmit their entries, remove them, or make a new item to better accommodate the users who complained, but in addition to that, they never asked for this feedback. Did they want it? I don't know. I didn't enter and haven't asked, but I can say that they never asked for half the comments to be about how they didn't like the item they spent hours on.

When I said something about this on the last news post, I had people approach me to say that it meant a lot to them and that they had been hurt by what was being said. That's why I'm so quick to go to bat now and why I'm so upset at how people are behaving. Because I'm painfully aware that they are hurting people's feelings and it really broke my heart to hear and know that.

Galadriel

@elka It's fine! It made sense to me too, so don't worry about it. It sorta seems like that if you're not paying attention lol
0

elka

@shadowyice Yeah no, when I read their comment it made sens for a few seconds, and then I reread and there are def. 5 eyes and 4 wearables + user chosen so whatever hahahah I will go die now *takes rock and smashes* don't mind meeeee
1

Jinx

Huge congrats to the winners!
Wish I remembered the name of the lips I voted for because damn if the creator wants to put it on site, I'm happy to prepay for a slot!
3

Lavellan

Excellent work. I'm a little sad that none of the mouths made it, mouths are hard for me to find satisfactory but I loved the ones for this contest and was excited for the chance to own them. I hope the chance for them to be submitted arises in the future.
1

Galadriel

@Primistra @elka I think maybe
High Quality Disguise Projector
doesn't count as a facial item? Because it's not exactly a facial feature, it's more like an item of clothing or a mask....
2

Laurey

@ShadowyIce
I guess I thought that comment about "how much did you pay for this" was just in response to all the crazy side effect things, but I guess that kind of makes sense too though.

Wait you're right :O ?! What happened there...
7

Galadriel

@Laurey Yeah, I think @Kandarhrin is right. The "instructions" are in quotation marks, and then it has a comment at the end that says, "How much did you pay for this hunk of junk again?" (Think if your friend came over to see what you had ordered, was reading the instructions, and then asked you that question because the instructions were so bad.)
3

Demoness

@Laurey
Yikes, that is a bit of a shame the item description got through like that. If it was a CW it would have been rejected :( Hopefully the staff can fix it soon!

@Coraychi
Yes constructive criticism is a valuable life skill to have, and an important one at that. But there are also opinions and those differ very much to criticism. One must exercise great caution in distinguishing between constructive criticism and a simple opinion, as well as placing an appropriate value on each.

Also to your second point of only referring to this post for negative feedback:
"The user response - both on this news posts and the one for when voting opened - has been exceedingly negative in my opinion." Now you are saying you are just referring to this comment section specifically? Why did you bring up the other post if you were meaning this comment section exclusively because now you are misdirecting me over what comments you are specifically talking about. There was no need to bring up the negative feedback from the last post if you weren't referring to it at all because now you are making the argument convoluted.

I think you are starting to confuse the line between opinion (people just not liking an item and saying so) with being destructive criticism. Why aren't people allowed to say they don't like an item now and the reason for it? If people don't like the sleeves, why can't they say that? Sure it was a majority vote but I don't think they shouldn't exercise their right to say they don't like it. People have those kind of opinions when staff items are released but only now it seems to be a big deal? Shall we just ban opinions all together? No one said "this artwork isn't even subeta standard" or "ugh how did this entry even win, the artists didn't deserve this win". Those are examples of destructive criticism. Art is subjective, that is the true beauty of it, and artists have to respect the fact that not all feedback is going to be perfect, and I say this being an artist who is still learning to deal with criticism in all aspects of my life.

You say you don't want to call anyone out but quote exactly what someone said. How do you propose you would describe the eyes that are 'squinty' because as far as I am aware, squinty is a descriptor and there is nothing derogatory about using descriptors until they become evidently so. The few people who were specific about entries had constructive feedback in my opinion. Again, this opinion is subjective.

Am I saying people should be rude about it? No. Should people not say anything if you don't have anything nice to say at all? In certain situations and circumstances, yes. But I also don't think anyone here is being rude about it. People are expressing their opinions and you are jumping the gun and saying that their opinions ARE rude and negative. Just remember that opinions are subjective, and what you may consider destructive criticism, someone else may consider it as not.

I'm not disregarding the time spent by artists, and I am not disregarding your opinion, I really respect that you respect the time all of the artists have spent into their entries. But I think ultimately it is up to the artists to decide for themselves whether this feedback is negative or not. It seems you are very steadfast about lots of people being intentionally horrible and that in itself, isn't helpful for anyone but it is admirable you stand up for what you believe in. I think everyone was well aware this is not a feedback forum for art changes but that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to have opinions.

Have a nice day/night :)

Galadriel

Congratulations to all the winners! The items are stunning and I'm so happy to get to wear them! Also, congrats to all the entrants! I wish you all could've won; your entries were so marvelous.

I'm a little disappointed that no lips made the cut. That Repurposed Shell Casing was pretty nice. Also, wish that closed eye/blush combo would've made it in as well.

All in all, however, I'm super happy with all the winners and I hope there will be another contest soon to showcase some more amazing talent from this community. The artists here are truly stellar, and you don't know how I wish I had your talent and skill ;P Thank you, staff, for giving us this opportunity to create some amazing pieces and have a say in what gets onto the site. You all are the real MVPs!
6

Nomi_Barei

@Laurey I think that's intentional. It is a 'hunk of junk', isn't it? Like when you order random cheap tech gadgetry from China and the instructions are wonky af and it doesn't work properly.
2

Laurey

But yeah I mean, I think the description is pretty funny as well, it just could use a bit of tweaking I think.
1

Laurey

@Kandarhrin
Like grammatical issues and such. For example, it says "Step 3" twice, I think a couple words are missing in some places, and some parts of it just read in a bit of a confusing way.
1

Nomi_Barei

@Laurey issues like what? I think the description on it is great!
0

Yay, two of the items I voted for made it! (My third vote was for my own entry, and that was just wishful thinking.)

Well done to everyone who won and everyone who even entered. You took a chance and that's always worth something.

45 each, I better get dancing since I spent so much recently XD

Congrats to the winners! So many good items were up for the vote.

It seems we can never have a user contest around here without controversy. :c

As a side note, the
High Quality Disguise Projector
is pretty creative, but did anyone proofread the description for it? There are multiple issues in there.

@Bliss
That's fine, lol!
And like I said, I don't think that anything you've said here has been hurtful. :)
1

@Coraychi
Ok.... I agree with you by... 65% lol

Sometimes, I can be hurtful without realizing it. Then when the person brings it to my attention, I apologize right away and I feel like the worst little shit after

1

Coraychi

@Bliss
Yes! Of course~
I'm not upset or angry with you for disagreeing with me, I was just stating that we do indeed have a diverging opinion. It's 100% okay if you don't feel the same. I'm only upset with the people who have said things I believe to be genuinely hurtful, and you're not one of those people as far as I've seen.
2

Fouguri_947

@Bliss

Ha sure! Get it! :D
I think it's fun too, but just a bit rough draft, I hope for a better organisation next time. (If we ever have one)

However, I think you're right., one winner per category could be a good way to bring more diversity in the winner pool. I totaly agree!
3

Bliss

@Coraychi
But, part of being a mature adult/person is: agree to disagree, right?
5

Bleak_Light

Just to throw a suggestion out there - could future contests like this maybe have separate categories for entries that don't meet current CW submission rules (like facial features, apparently. I don't know the rules) and the ones that could be submitted later if they don't win?

I understand the desire to take advantage of a chance to get items through that normally wouldn't have a chance, but i do feel that kind of puts a bias towards them because they won't get another chance at getting on site.
16

congrats to the winners! i really love all the items that made it tbh. (although i'm a little sad none of the lips won!)

I agree why put a collection item as a prize to only a few people, whats the point in doing a collection when you cant complete it.
10

Coraychi

@Bliss
That's true. I don't think what's been said here falls under just expressing slight disappointment, but if we disagree on that fact then I guess that's just how it's gonna be. *shrug* I find what's been said during the course of this contest to be pretty harsh~

Coraychi

@Bliss @Cerulean

People should be capable of expressing their opinions without putting other people down. If not, then it's a valuable skill that they should acquire.

But no, I was referring to this news post specifically. I consider what has been said here to be negative, and think it goes beyond just sharing of opinions. I'm not trying to call anyone specific out, but there have been some comments that are negative.

Insulting art isn't just about saying the quality is bad, and the art of the winners has been insulted. Art isn't just the finished project, but the work that goes into it and the ideas that have come to fruition, and saying that all the entrants are the same as site items and each other, complaining about "squinty eyes" being the only winners etc. is insulting. And people aren't being subtle either, doing so much as to point out specific entries. Not just the eyes either, as a few people said they didn't like the sleeves that won user vote as well. Fact of the matter is, no one can do dip about it now, so saying these things is no longer a matter of trying to provide feedback for the betterance of a feature, but an insult to the artists who put hours into their entries and an act of putting those people down. I said this on the last news post as well, but I feel that if people don't have anything nice to say in this situation, they should keep it to themself. It helps literally no one at this point.
I'm afraid the damage is done though, and I can almost guarantee that one or more of the entrants has been discouraged from participating in these sorts of things in the future.
10

Bliss

@Fouguri_947
I thought this was fun.

My suggestion for the future if we were to have another contest is: one winner from each category is chosen!

Too bad about noses and mouths, but I really like all the winners.

Please consider adding two more items, though? A nose and a mouth? From the entries. You know you can do more than you said would be winners - like with Yaherra and Blob when we got both instead of just one :D

The telescope is great! So great. SO great.
9

Flygon

Sad that the dress didn't make it but at least the others that I voted made it
0

Fouguri_947

First of all, congrats to all the winners! <3

Secondly I would like to thanks the staff for organizing this contest, and I hope we will have more of that in the future.

I think it's both a good opportunity for artist to try them on CW as well as for Subeta community to get involved in such community event. That helped to make this year Masquerade more fun and thrilling!

However, I have the feeling that the way the contest was organized was a bit rough, (What is totally understandable because that the first event of that kind on Subeta, from what I know~) and some points would deserved to be changed if we'd have the opportunity to have similar contest in the future.

-- feedbacks from the staff during submiting time --
Of course I don't expect a full comment on each artist' submission.... but a little feedback from the staff to know if the submission is "technically" acceptable for voting phase would be great. The feedback would be generic like "blurry line", "shading not conform", "wrong light source" or whatever...
Without this kind of feedbacks the contest is sadly almost IMPOSSIBLE for new artists who never tried to do CW before and who are so unused to Subeta's quality criterias. I don't think any "new CW artist" get their way to voting phase, and it's just awfully frustrating to have their submission rejecting for any technical issues when you think that this kind of contest should promote new artists for doing CW. Right?

--view of all the submission rejected--
That follows the prevews paraph... but, what a frustration to have a submission you put a lot of work, time and energy get rejected and no one without ever see it. That's okay to have a submission rejected, but I feel that is not preventing artist to share their submission and art. A page that summaries all the rejected submission would help every artist to have feedback on their work and to learn from their mistakes for next time.

--Statistics of submissions--
How many people get into the contest? For how many total submission?
We don't know, because we only saw the entries which goes to voting phase. Okay, they are the best, or at least the ones without any technical issues... but I think it would be really interesting to have a general view of all contest.
That's not the same to be selected/win if there where 200 entries than it there was only 50.

--Staff choose before the users' vote--
I don't get why the staff didn't pick 9 submission before to show the remaining submission for voting.

Beside the staff know what technical issues they want to avoid on CW they released, they also have to know what they want to promote on the site to fit the theme of the contest. The theme was Masquerade and Atebus revolution and it may appears some things weren't really in the theme....

Adding that, to avoid being flooded with facials figures who stick in the theme just thanks to the icone item, facial figures should be open in regular CW! People seem to like them soooo much and artist appear to be pretty happy to make great ones!

That would avoid two things,:
-> the staff choosing their 9 winners from the players vote (so the players inderectly vote for them too)
-> better voting phase, because if we know which items where chosed by the staff, we could vote for different item because we already have something similar.

Or, if the staff is unsure that their choice would be like by the community. Just let the player choose ALL the winners, officially.

--Participating prices--
Okay, the winner have a nice prices.
But I think that the price we got for participation is clumsy.
I like stickers, but I don't think it's a good think to offer something like that. Like it was said lower by @Kallistrat, a trophy whould had be more suittable. It's "unique", and it's not someting you can sell/trade or part with in anyway.
A sticker is a collectable that stikers collector couldn't get easily... and seriously I would feel bad to sell mine to anyone as well as to see anyone who didn't try their hand on the contest to have it in their collection. How could I feel rewarded to have done something unusual if anybody can get it against SP or whatever.

Thee or Four trophies could had been released for this event
->participation (sumiting any entry)
->getting to the voting phase
->winner trophy (staff) / winner trophy (community)

To finish the comment who is really longer than I think it would be..... I do enjoy the contest, and again... I REALLY hope who would have other CW contest to express ourself.

2

Demoness

@YamiTehGreat
I agree, i think a category vote could go a long way to get a diverse selection of items onsite. Obviously the eyes won because lots of people voted for them, but it just would have been nice to a selection of facial items and staff very much had the choice to choose other facial features but went with majority vote. They could have even added extra winners but i respect the winners. Just sad we dont get to see those pretties onsite
3

pythonesque

Congrats to the winners and props to all the artists’ hard work!
1

Flutterby

@cAIn That's a very good point, I didn't think of that! I sadly missed the voting so I didn't get to see any of the other entries. I also agree with you that 10 seems like such a small number to chose to win. I think it'd be helpful to break it down into categories even: eyes, dress, misc items (like the telescope), mouths, noses, etc. Then the staff would pick so many winners from each category, and then users could vote for their favorites. (Example in the end have a total of 3 items from each category) I didn't realize those restrictions existed for CWs, so more mouths and noes would have been cool to see. Or even a contest in the future allowing those options.
3

Straywillow

Congratulations winners! All look great!

*sorry, five. Still, that's HALF of the winning items.
0

Primistra

Congratulations to the winners!!!

Why are there six items for the face-layer and only three for other layers (of the judge-chosen ones)?
Wasn't it supposed to be five facial features and four non-facial features?
7

Demoness

@Corayachi
I dont really see anything on this news post that is exceedingly negative? I see people in agreement about the lack of other facial features and that the eyes are similar but i dont see anyone degrading the work or effort of the artists here. I dont see anyone saying that they hate the items or that the artwork is horrible. One person said that about their own artwork so that really doesnt count. A few people expressing disappointment that their votes didn't get the items they wanted through but thats a normal reaction to a voting contest. No different to voting on a talent show. Also some discussion about demographic not being met by the staff submitted items, all of which i think is healthy discussion but maybe that topic could have been put on the appropriate forum board.

But that doesnt mean I agree with those derogatory comments being said. I didnt check the voting news post so i wasn't really aware you were referring to feedback from that post to be inclusive with the feedback here, that wasn't stated in your earlier comment so i assumed you were talking about this comment section exclusively, so i guess thats a bit of miscommunication on both sides :) I dont see the negativity here specifically and im not about to go seeking out negative comments on the other post because they dont deserve my time. But regardless of what you and i objectively think, i do think we both agree it is never okay to be horrible towards other people's artwork. There is constructive criticism and there is just being nasty and i think that is sad that even people apart of the CW community are partaking in such things. How are we meant to be an inclusive community and keep people here if people are openly saying horrible things. That does sadden me and i agree with you that entrants would be reading all comments closely and i hope that those comments don't discourage them from participating in future events. If these comments are as bad as you say, perhaps staff should be looking into that. It's easy to say something rude and not think about the repercussions and effects it may have on the person who submitted the item.
8

Aztec

Seriously? Six eyes? And not a single one of them are any I was interested in. There were too many eyes in the pool to begin with.

HYPEBEAST

A little bit of time left... to gather like one million trinkets for the winning items haha!

Also I need that sticker.
2

Opossun

Honestly, many people here said what I think about the contest and the lack of variety so I feel like it would be unnecessary to add anything else

I just hope that none of the artists feel bad because of people's opinions, they did an amazing job with their wonderful art (:
11

Kris

Congratulations to all the winners. All of you that entered are very talented. :)
3

Bliss

@Coraychi

I agree with @Cerulean Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Users are being honest about the lack of facial features because nose, lips and eyes are NOT permitted as CW submissions.

I was one of the users that voiced the opinion of wishing there were more facial items that were chosen. I loved the gender neutral lips and sadly, none were chosen.
16

Mackenzi

I think the Ridiculously Posh Sleeves had one of my favorite item arts so I'm glad it won even tho it didn't quite make my top 3. I love all the items that win so much. And I'll just say again to counter some of the other opinions about the blindfold eyes, I'm glad we have a non-CW closed eye option because there aren't many on site and I'd love to see more items with that style to be available to those who don't wanna spend 500+ CSC per item!

Honestly every entry was pretty great, I don't think there where any that I thought "that shouldn't be an item." This was a great contest and I hope to see more like it in the future! :) :) :)
1

wraith

@Flutterby
Possibly, but personally I feel that'd be unfair to the people who did submit different coloured eyes. If they want more colour variations in the official shop (which I think many of us would also like), why not just add in some of the eyes that had already been submitted? Making recolours of the ones that did win would... I dunno, to me, it'd feel mean against the people who submitted eyes in those colours already. I know that's personally what I'd rather see, myself. But unless we get some "surprise! here's some extra winners!" post down the line, I feel like what got picked is what we've got.

I appreciate the suggestion, though. Again, I like the eyes that did win, I just find the lack of colour/shape variety to be odd. They all look... Well, pretty similar to me, and I guess I was just expecting a bit more variety? A lot of other users have also pointed out that none of the mouths or noses got in either, which also seems odd. You'd have expected at least one of each, right? After all, the positions were for five "facial features" but all 5 of them are eyes.

I've said it once, I'll say it again; I would have liked to see more winners picked. There was too many amazing looking items to narrow it down to just 10, in my opinion.
16

Ciannwn

Congratulations to the winners.
1

YamiTehGreat

@Cerulean

Really? Even more disappointing that none of the lips won :/

I kind of wish the voting for the facial features were separate from the other items
12

Marlboro

Congrats to the winners!

@Amber is there any chance that the participating prizes would go for a high price in the SM shop or the MC for those who didn't paticipate because they are not an artist? especially because there is a sticker involve.
12

Coraychi

@Cerulean
The user response - both on this news posts and the one for when voting opened - has been exceedingly negative in my opinion. It kind of breaks my heart to see so many people outright insulting the entries, calling them unoriginal, underwhelming, and talking about how they couldn't even find three items to vote for. All of which are indeed things people have said.
Some of these comments come from non-artists who I expect that kind of disregard from, but I've also seen it from people involved in the CW community who I would expect to be a bit more courteous of artists feelings. It's likely that all the entrants are reading comments closely, and I'm sure from their point of view at least - and mine - that the response has been very negative.
12

Flutterby

Would it be acceptable to start a suggestion board for the contest? I keep seeing lots of comments and good suggestions in the comments here, and it be nice to discuss them further there! (I'm not sure the best forum to create the topic in, otherwise I'd create it myself lol)

@cAIn Many of the items in the Steamworks shop come in different colorways to begin with, so I wonder if the winning items could be offered in different colors? Logistically it would probably get a little complicated since its a contest, and the artists would have to do some extra work. But I wonder if that would be a possible solution?
2

Demoness

@YamiTehGreat
Eyes and lips are not permitted to be submitted as CWs so unfortunately any of those won't be CWs :(
4

L0stS0ul

Congrats to the winners!
Amazing items! <3
0

YamiTehGreat

Too bad none of the mouth items made it. They were so good! CWs maybe?
1

o0SnowyOwl0o

No outfit found

Loved so many of these I had to make a new HA <3
11

wraith

@mei
For my comment, at least, I didn't mean to imply your item didn't deserve to win (it was actually one of the ones I wanted to vote for) but rather that I personally thought your entry was one of the ones that could have been submitted outside the competition and still made it on site.

Apparently I was mistaken about that, but at the time I wasn't aware. Your item looks pretty rad and I'm happy for you that it won. Hope you didn't get the wrong idea from my comment.
9

Demoness

@Coryachi
I dont think the user reaction is negative, everyone is allowed to have an opinion (and of course this is just mine), and people I think are just being honest about half of the items being eyes and being a bit disappointed other facial features didn't get chosen, especially since this is the only way to get eyes/lips/noses onsite. I myself said that but i also bought them all to use.because they are beautiful and i definitely will be using them. They are beautiful items that are cheap and easy for people to get. I just think they are very similar and i think people would have a liked a bit more diversity, or even more winners since there were so many awesome entries ^_^
12

Coraychi

@mei
I'm sorry opinions have been mixed on your entry! I really love it though and it was one of my votes!! <3
Congrats on the win! :)
3

stars_water

@Nini
I have never submitted a CW either, but I've read the rules too many times (and was reminded of said rules by Kel while we were talking about this event) - for one you don't necessarily have to pay the fee yourself. What a lot of CW artists do is fill slots preemptively and have the other people who are receiving the item upon its creation pay the price instead. It's ten people in a first batch I believe, so the artist pays nothing and the price is split up amongst the rest. The part Kel reminded me of is that eye and mouth items actually can't be submitted as CWs, and upon reviewing the rules a little better it even says that if a makeup item looks too much like closed eyes it will be denied, so some of these "get it as CWs later" things aren't going to happen for that reason instead.
11

Hamda

Congrats to the winners! Kindda sad my eyes didn't make the cut but happy with the ones that did :D
1

Christopher

Oh boy, eyes.
6

Kellijuana

Oh man I thought the judge chosen ones were already out of the pool and we had some even more amazing surprises coming! lol Glad to see that means so many of these got to win though as it was SO HARD to choose <3 Congrats to the winners and thank you to all the entrants for your lovely work!
0

Demoness

@Nini
We totally understand artists can't all afford to submit but you can sell designs to be submitted by someone else. I have purchased premade designs before that have been sold.via auction so that is always an option if you think your art is up to standard :)
1

NeonDinosaur

I was really hoping the pants/floating shoes would win!! Oh well, I voted for
High Quality Disguise Projector
I’m so glad it won. Totally my trippy style
1

NeonDinosaur

I was really hoping the pants/floating shoes would win!! Oh well, I voted for
High Quality Disguise Projector
I’m so glad it won. Totally my trippy style
2

Naddi

@Johnny you are the reason I joined in the first place, im overwhelmed ilyyyy

2

mei

i usually get excited enough when i see people wearing my stuff on site but having my own art as an Official Wear is v surreal ;-; i guess it was one of the more controversial items but im thankful to be chosen. congrats to everyone else who won!! ❤️
21

Coraychi

I for one think all of the eyes that won are actually really unique? Both among each other, and on site. There's a bit of overlap, sure, but the overlap there is seems to be with some less accessible/expensive items on-site anywho so I'm cool with it! I'm already having a ton of fun layering the new eyes in my wardrobe~ :o

My hope is that another CW contest will be held soon so that people can try again to get these entries on site. ^^
Hopefully the user response will be less negative next time.
4

Nini

:heart::heart::heart: congrats everyone!!!!!!! these are great!!!!! awesome work! i don't take avatar customization seriously as u can tell by what it looks like currently BUT! i see some rly great future TC items!!! * 0*)9

of course i'm sad my toony face thing didn't make it but i honestly felt my CI art wasn't rly up to subeta standard (i waited till the last day so i won't lie, it was rushed pfffft) so i guess i kinda dodged a bullet there haha but thank you!!! for putting it in the voting stage!!!! i was very flattered, especially considering i've never made a cw in my life lmaoo ; u;

also to the "ITEMS THAT DIDN'T WIN CAN JUST BE RELEASED AS CWS!!!" suggestion, just a friendly reminder that some of us are literally starving artists and 50 bucks to submit a CW is kind of a lot of money so plz don't be mad if some of us can't make that happen i'm really sorry ahhhhhh sorry sorry !!!!!!!!!!!! x____x
23

jersey

It's sad too that many of the ones that did not win can not be submitted as CWs as they are facial features. It's all I voted for knowing that was the case. Eyes and lips are still not allowed as far as I understand.
10

Fizz

Congrats gang ~
0

Kushiel

Yiss for so many of my faves being chosen. I'm just a tad sad we didn't get the shirt
0

Ferinsy

Congrats to the winners!

And ouch, I wanted at least 2 of the closed eyes to make it... And that beautiful golden foreground.
6

Valiska

@Muerte Right? it is SO hard to find the right mouth for avatars that aren't adult and presenting female. Even feminine men (bishounen) and little girls don't usually wear that much lipstick.

@Roadkill & @Coraychi, you're probably right, but I think it would have been fairest to let us vote on the things staff didn't pick. I understand staff wanting to pick things that will sell well, but IDK.

Also, it cracks me up that the one item I liked most was the one staff didn't choose. I really feel that being the fan favourite was fueled by the demographic that usually gets its fixes at Masq and the restocking hell that is Keelhauliday, but didn't get a fix at Masq this year. (Although G-d bless whoever gave us the lace-edged blouses and heart-embroidered waistcoats at Survival this year.)
5

Flutterby

Is there somewhere I can view the entries? I totally missed the announcement voting was open and I was curios what was submitted!
4

feral

Congratulations to all the winners! So many new faces I've never seen before! I hope to get to see these new artists again in the future :) And I hope anyone who didn't win submits their designs because there were a lot of really good ones I was looking forward to as well :)
Thank you all for this wonderful opportunity and contest ♥️
1

Johnny_673

congrats to all winners!
special congrats to my possum girl @Naddi - I tould you you could do it ;)
5

Jai

I hope that the folks whose CWs weren't chosen will make their selections available for purchase. I liked several of them that didn't win.
11

jersey

Grats to the winners.
Sad none that won were ones I chose though. :(
1

wraith

I'm going to echo what some other users have said and say that I find it a bit odd that of the five facial feature items we got, three out of five are light brown/hazel eyes with similar shapes. They look good, don't get me wrong. But I was really expecting a bit more variety in the facial items, especially considering some of the amazing entries we had in that category.

Ultimately, I suppose it just feels to me like only 10 winners is far too little. There were just too many amazing entries, all the winners did deserve to win, but there were a lot of others that, in my opinion also deserved to win...
44

stars_water

I have no qualms with saying that the only thing I came up with was the name and description. Congratulations to Kel who got two items in including the one I entered, and congratulations to the rest of the winners too!

I do sort of wish that the closed eye item I voted for got in, but there's a lot of good stuff up there. Maybe another time!
1

Balloon

Congrats to the winners! -runs out to grab
Planet Surveyors Telescope
and make an astronomer balloon HA!-
2

Diprosopus

@cherub
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
4

Silverfish

Aw, gotta say I am also a bit disappointed no mouths or noses got through as I'm, on the whole, much more likely to use those as opposed to eyes haha.
Still, most of my faves actually made it, congrats to everyone who won and many thanks to others for participating :heart:
21

Kinky

There were some neat mouths and cute noses available as contest entries. Why only eyes? And why only eyes that are already basically on site? I mean, don't get it twisted, they are very nice eyes, but they are essentially the same eyes over and over again. Oh well, at least we got the telescope! I'm happy we had the choices to pick from, thanks for running this!
34

stars_water

*screams*
2

Kallistrat

@Saint In fact, it sounds like users have chosen all the winning entries.... It's not a bad thing but why presenting it differently? I mean, it's okay to have people choose but if the staff was the only one to choose, it could have been different with other winning items.... And I still agree that staff should have choose items THEN show other remaining item for the users to choose from... Could have really been staff selected! =O I don't really get this idea...
7

innamoramento

Congrats to the winners. I don't think i voted for any, but i did consider voting for some at least.
0

Muerte

CONGRATS YOU INCREDIBLY TALENTED PEEPS.
Planet Surveyors Telescope

Ain't nobody gunna convince me this isn't perfect for my pirate pet TCs. It's so damned pretty !
And we all know I'm a big ass sucker for sleeves.
Ridiculously Posh Sleeves
is just so, so pretty.
High Quality Disguise Projector
is so well done and so unique, I love it.

I won't lie, I am sad staff didn't pull a "and a special added x items" cause I would have loved some of those gender neutral mouths.
11

StarShadow

Disappointed the nice blue eye visor and pretty sparkles didn't win and hope to see them for sale as CWs soon.
10

Elwyn

Congrats to the winners! Two of the items I voted for made it, so many great items it was hard to choose.
1

Saint

@Valiska to clear up some confusion: we didn't choose the staff picks until AFTER user voting closed, and the user votes were taken into account for the final decision. so don't worry, your votes weren't wasted!
13

Maniac

don't care for any of the eyes tbh but i voted for the sleeves & crown so i'm happy
7

Roadkill

Don't get me wrong, I loved the contest and all the entries were *stunning*
5

Roadkill

Just that of all the brilliant items, three of them look almost exactly the same... Absolutely no dig at the art or artists, but that nothing but eyes went through where there would be two spots extra for facial features is hyper-annoying.
34

the_ultraViolet

I really enjoyed this, it was fun seeing all the user submissions and getting to vote on my favorites! I hope we'll have more contests for user designed wearables in the future too, there are lots of talented artists here.
Congrats to the winners!
5

Coraychi

@Valiska
When voting went up, staff hadn't made their decision, actually. They observed the fan favorites, and said the votes may sway their own choices.
6

Bliss

@Stiles
Totally agree!

@Valiska
I'm mad I didn't get lips
0

Roadkill

@Valiska
did the staff vote *after* the user's votes were tallied? That's the only way I can see it being at all reasonable.

--

Also why only squinty eyes and no other facial features? :c
23

wraith

@elka Really? That's a shame, some of my favorite CWs on site are the ones that look like the Blindfold. but fair enough, I suppose.

I must admit I'm biased because (and a bit sad) as literally none of the ones I voted for got into the winning lots, and all of them were eyes so there's no chance of seeing them on-site unless we get another competition like this. But that's the way the dice rolls, it seems. The items that did win are still pretty stellar, though, which is really the kicker for this. I wish all of the items that made it to the finals had been added, it was very hard to only pick 3.
7

Valiska

@Faizh You remember the discussion we had before about some people like raves and some people like waltzes? I'm sorry that you didn't like the fan favourite, but it and the telescope are the only items in the shop that provide what I want out out of Masq this year, so I think it's just that those of us who got nothing much in the shop this year were able to get this one thing.
1

Stiles

I'm reading everyone's responses and I wonder if a good suggestion (just opinion I have no way obv) for next time may be to allow a winner from each category? That would allow for more variety?
35

elka

@cAIn staff have changed their mind about this and explained it was a mistake and will no longer accept CWs without lashes at the top
5

Valiska

@Bliss, right? I'm freaking mad I didn't get my cat nose, I hope that the person who made it will be permitted to submit it as a CW so I can slot on it and buy it from the shop. :)
9

CMYK

OMG WHAT. I didn't expect to win sljkdfert ;3;

THANKS EVERYONE WHO VOTED ON THE ENTRIES! You all are the REAL MVP! >:0
12

Valiska

Why were items the judges had already chosen on the list of items that we could vote for? It seems unfair.

Why not let us vote on the items that you DIDN'T choose, but were good enough to be accepted? It makes me feel that the votes I put toward those items (though I only chose one of those) were wasted, although I'm happy that the fan favourite was one that I did pick.

What would you have done if the favourite had been something you already picked--not chosen a fan favourite?

Also, please take note. The fan favourite was clearly aimed at the demographic that for some reason was completely neglected in the shop this year--the group of people who love Masquerade not because they want high-tech, cyber, emo, ravey stuff, or streamlined industrial goth stuff that's inspired by historical items with the bare minimum of embellishment, but because we love Ii]historically-inspired lavish outfits with jewels, ruffles, lace, and embellishments far more than we love body mods or neon.

To those of you who prefer the rave stuff and streamlined goth (plague doctor etc), please understand: I am absolutely not proposing that anything that was in the shop this year for you should not have been there. I just want more than one item for my demographic IN ADDITION to those items.
27

Fouguri_947

to @Princess and all the one who wonder,

I submited and entry to the contest but didn't get to the voting, however I won the sticker, so gess EVERY participants will get it too. :)
5

Naddi

I SWEAR I JUST MADE THE UNHOLIEST SCREECH, I CANT BELIEVE I WON?!!!!!! O M G
2 of the items i voted for also!!!!! best news of this day!!!!! now im hyped as hell to try making some regular cws also Q A Q
CONGRATS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7

wraith

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but...

I really don't think the
Embroidered Blindfold
should have counted as a "facial features" item (even though, yes, it is facial features) for one simple fact: This item could likely have gotten through as a CW within the current rule set, so it kind of feels unfair that one of the other actual eyes wasn't picked alongside it. I mean, I could be wrong about this, but I feel like we've had very similar items to that one added as CWs in the past, and the whole appeal of these competitions is to give users a chance to have actual eyes/lips/noses added.

Congrats to the winners, though, I hope we get more competitions like this in the future, I feel like they don't happen enough and they always showcase some amazing talent. I hope a lot of the ones that didn't win will still appear on site as CWs because there were some killer entries into this competition.
17

Bliss

I'm disappointed to see only eyes instead of a variety of facial items. It would've been nice to see some lips.

Also... are we able to buy that sticker, or is it only award to the winners? People who are working on their collections may find it impossible to finish it.
19

losersclub

congrats!! i wish everybody could have won, haha
2

cherub_730

ohhh i may have saw the designs in the wardrobe earlier and was trying not to freak out that mine was included?! ; ω ; also so excited to see 2/3 things i voted for won also, and a few things i ran out of votes for too AH * O *

congrats everyone!!! :sparkles: :confetti_ball:
8

Princess

The sticker is given out to participants. Unsure if it's for all participants or just folks who made it to voting, though.
0

Saix

OK i have to ask, is that sticker only given out to the winners? If so that will make finishing the stickers collection far more difficult omg
15

EmilyMae

Congrats to the winners! Deff getting the posh sleeves.

I just have one question. Are those of us who collect stickers going to be given a chance to buy the sticker? Is that the participation prize or is just given to the 10 winners?
5

Rogue

Congrats to the winners!
0

Mackenzi

I am psyched to see a closed eye item win, we need more of those on the site!
3

plumeria

Congrats guys! Lovely pieces ❤
0

Myuu

Congrats to the winners!
Sadly none of my picks won :( But meh
7

Kallistrat

Just, sorry but... can we talk about the participation prize a second? I mean... A sticker! A "fashion star sticker"! First of all: most of us just loose so a star.... And where is the unique reward... If we sell it, anyone could get it and... if I consider I should wear it, I still have to ask someone or pay to get it on my collection! Come on XD

I think it would have been more elegant to get a trophy on the user page like "First Masquerade Fashion Contest Participant".... !
29

kitty

none of the things I voted for won : (
hope they get submitted as cw's

congrats to the winners!!
16

crashingnightingales

Congrats to all those whose designs were chosen to be winners of the contest! Im continually amazed by the quality and design details that go into all of the custom items! I’m also very happy to see that 2 of the 3 I voted for made it to the Menagerie! ??
1

hannahharmin

One out of three items I voted for was chosen. :)
Congratulations to the winners.
0

Faber

Those sleeves, yes! These are all great :D
0

Sigilmancy

Gonna agree about the eyes. Half of them being eye related seems a bit....much? Especially when there were so many other good ones in there. They were all great and a huge congrats to the winners, but this is why I think people were asking for the users to pick more than just one winner.
30

Topic: Previews - Custom Wearable Masquerade Contest Winners 2019
congrats everyone!! i hope i have enough trinkets for doubles of those corneas :eyes:
4

Princess

Congrats to the winners! I'm really excited to see the sleeves, telescope, and blindfold!!

I know I'm biased since I submitted a mouth so take what I say with that in mind I suppose, buuuut it would have been nice to see some more variety in face items instead of just eyes. :/ Admittedly I'm a little disappointed to see exclusively eyes instead of a range of facial features. These eyes are all great and totally congrats to the winners, but it would have been cool to see some more variety since there were some cool noses and lips as well and we've seen that variety with previous contests too, especially since we still can't submit face items. 8'))
39

Star

Congrats to all the winners! I'm so happy the items I've picked actually made it on site c: A big thank you to all the artists and judges who made this happen! ^^

Congrats to all the winners!!!!

Congrats to the winner...

but disappointed that not one thing I voted for made it in

I hope some of the ones that didn't win end up as CWs so I can buy those, really wanted a couple of them.
14

Too many eye items were chosen. I know nearly half of the submissions were eyes. But still!
Congrats to the winners.
40

Omg all three of the CWs I voted for got through! Congrats everyone, awesome stuff

Not a fan of the sleeves, but I'm glad the telescope was included... some of the eyes are nice too, even though I didn't vote for them.
