One gloomy day, Darlene was out for a walk. She was just wandering the streets, sometimes stopping to window shop. She did this often, she enjoyed seeing the displays.

She happened upon a vintage shop, one with a traditionally dreary set-up. They tended to only set out one or two of their dusty items for the public to see. Just left them on a velvet covered table without any thought for design.

Today, she was intrigued. They had outdone themselves as far as exhibits go, merely laying out a set of knitting needles. She entered the shop and inquired about the display.

As it turned out, the needles had been discovered in one of the musty old trunks in the back. Putting them out has been the clerk’s idea of a joke, as she agreed with Darlene about the general dullness of their displays.

Thinking it was a grand joke, Darlene purchased the knitting needles.

She took the home and forgot about them.

Some months later, cooped up on a rainy day, she decided to pull out the needles. Oddly, though they had been stashed under the couch for a time, they felt warm to the touch. Shrugging, she began to knit.

She wasn't particularly good at knitting, nor did she have any pattern to follow. But somehow, she managed to create a cute little bunny. A cute little bunny that could... Talk?

She sat back and shook her head. There was no way it had just spoken to her. As she continued to stare, it waved at her and cleared it's throat as if it were trying to get her attention.

Darlene ran screaming from the room.

The next day she took the knitting needles and the bunny- who was continually babbling away- back to the shop. The clerk answered her knock, took one look at the bunny and then proceeded to slam the door in Darlene's face. Darlene continued knocking for what seemed like hours, but the clerk never returned.

She looked at the bunny. It gave her a shrug.

She gathered up her things and returned home. She sat down and began to knit, if she had to keep this bunny she needed to make it a companion to talk to so she could have some peace and quiet.
