Marianne Irene York

Vampire, born 1674 in Ipswich, Massachusetts, bitten 1693.

Marianne was the third-born daughter of Gregory York, a woodcutter and carver for the village their family presided in, and Martha York, who, despite being a woman, commanded a great amount of respect from the villagers, being a midwife since the age of fifteen. Marianne and all her sisters were taught by their mother how to prepare for the arrival of a new life; it was hard work, and only the bravest, strongest-willed and most intelligent women could perform such a task. From her youth, she was taught not to panic during childbirth, for if the mother was upset, the baby may not come out alright. Whenever her mother was too busy with one mother, either Marianne or one of her sisters (Annabelle, Bethany and Ruth) went to answer the call. Because their father and two brothers (George and Johnathon) had become well-known for their woodcarving works, things were quite well for the York family. But then something happened; something seemed to cause their luck to change. One day, for no particular reason, the horses and cows on their property had died. Not much longer afterwards, Marianne had delivered a stillborn baby. A short time after that, Mrs. York delivered one that died only a few hours later from sickness. It was of no help that, at the time, their neighbors were getting suspicious of them. One day, while Marianne was wandering the woods outside their farm, a pale, black-haired boy lay sleeping under a tree, his face and clothes dirty. Fearing he was a ward who had run away from home, Marianne hid him inside the barn, promising him some food later. That night, before supper, a knock came upon the door. When Mr. York went to answer it, some men had come to arrest Mrs. York and her daughters for conspiring to use witchcraft. Their suspicions were confirmed when, to everyone's shock, the lambs in the barn were found dead, their throats looking as though they were bitten open; the boy from earlier had disappeared. Things were only just starting to go downhill for the York women, though...

Martha, Annabelle, Bethany, Marianne and Ruth were all tried as witches before the court in their village. Though Bethany and Ruth were quick to plead guilty, Marianne, her mother and eldest sister fought back. Over and over again, they refused to confess to crimes they were not guilty of. The judges insisted that the York women were sacrificing babies' souls and slaughtering animals to use their blood for rituals. They tried to use the fact that Bethany and Ruth surrendered to get them to confess as well. Still, the three of them held strong. Marianne didn't know what became of her mother or sisters; all she can remember is that she was stripped of her clothing and whipped repeatedly to get her to confess. Even when the whiplash wounds were very, very deep, infected and aching, she refused to give in. Frustrated with her stubbornness, she was then thrown in prison by the "witch hunters". Execution was awaiting her now. Depressed, scared and longing for her family, Marianne cried, for she didn't know what else she could do. When all hope seemed lost, however, she suddenly noticed a small figure hunched over in front of her cell. She crawled over to it to discover that the boy from before had returned. He blamed himself for getting her arrested in the first place, and offered to set her free in return. When she asked if the same could be done for her mother and sisters, though, he sadly explained that he only had enough time for her. Understandingly, she accepted his offer, if only because she knew her family would want her to go on. When they had escaped to a town far away from Massachusetts, the boy told her that his name was Damian...and that he was not at all what he appeared to be. He was a vampire, born many years before in the Old World. He lived off livestock, because he couldn't bring himself to take a human life for sustenance. Marianne admired him for being so strong in spite of his appearance. After six months of traveling together, Damian offered to turn Marianne, but only if she fully realized the consequences of becoming like him. After thinking it over for a long, long time, she agreed. For several years afterwards, she lived as his "fledgling", learning how to survive her new life without succumbing to murdering humans. After a while, though, he felt she was ready to live on her own, and left for the Old World once more. For many long years after that, Marianne lived various lives, traveling the country and discovering new territories. When she finally had enough of it, though, she traveled all the way to England and rejoined Damian, continuing to live different lives on the other side of the world.

One day, a few years after the first World War, Damian told Marianne about a job offer he had gotten from something called the "Supernatural Protection Department". He explained that it was an internationally-run organization of humans and beings believed to be myths and legends, all of whom were needed to help humans believe that said beings were just what they assumed they were: fairy tales. Along with her "maker", she is now a Senior Agent of the SPD, mostly being in charge of organizing and planning missions out for other agents based on their physical and emotional capabilities. She enjoys her job, because it keeps her from having to assume a new identity every ten years. It also helps that her and Damian can still keep in contact even when they're stationed miles away from each other. Currently, she is stationed with him in a small branch in Elden, Maine, helping organize missions for both herself and her colleagues there. Her intelligence and strong will help keep her on her toes with the many incoming sightings of ghosts and werewolves and whatnot. With everybody focused on exposing the Briar Family, the world's most influencial vampire clan, as nothing but blood-crazed tyrants, somebody needs to keep everybody else in line, after all!
