Isaac was once an ordinary man, before a thousand-year battle was reawakened by the resurrection of a fire demon named Volkenarde (meaning Volcano in an ancient tongue). The relatively powerless sprite bound itself to Isaac in order to use its full power once again. As its host, Isaac can transform into the fiery serpent that Volkenarde once was. However, until Volkenarde can exact its revenge on the entity that imprisoned him in the first place, its existence is tied to Isaac's life. In addition, Isaac must hide his alter ego from any authority to avoid being unfairly arrested or slain. The entity he is hunting, only Volkenarde knows; the day he is set free from the demon's grasp, no one can guess.
