Shojei is a psychic. He was always able to read the minds of everyone he met, whether he wanted to or not. As a naive, confused child, he did not know what to make of it. When he learned that his power was an abnormality, the thought of it scared him; as he grew older, he was further plagued by what he found in the minds of others. The bare, not-sugar-coated truth of their thoughts. He felt that he didn't deserve to know the blunt reality of others' perceptions, nor the personal workings of their minds.
