Basic Biography

Name: Peter Barrie
Age: 33
Occupation: doctor/writer

It's true that not all writers make it, but Barrie was trying with all of his might to be one of those writers who did end up making it. Barrie had spent his whole life writing stories; they had been a way to combat loneliness, to write his pain into being, so to speak. His childhood room was filled with notebooks, not all the stories complete. Some were only half-finished, some just words scribbled on pages that had never manifested into anything concrete.

Barrie liked to write. It was his outlet, had always been his outlet from a very young age. His parents thought such fancies were useless. They advised him to take up being a doctor, to be a lawyer, to work in pharmaceuticals because there, there, they said is where the money was at. Writing though, the creative arts, they said were useless. He would be a penniless starving artist, and they would not help him if he starved. He listened to his parents in choosing his college major; the urge to please his parents was strong. And so he became a doctor, but he was not happy. Being a doctor meant he had money, but it was not a career he enjoyed. It was just a means to an end.

He wrote in his free time, mailed manuscript after manuscript to publishing houses in hopes of eventually being noticed. Some of his short stories made it to literary magazines and those he had framed in his house. He was proud of those, they showed that the talent in writing he believed he had was not some capricious notion of his, others believed it too.

But really what he wanted was that one big break. That one editor who would look at a manuscript he had mailed to their publishing house and immediately fall in love with it. So far that had not happened, but he was hopeful, always hopeful. Still, he had yet to get his big break, but he was optimistic that at some point he really would be successful.
