Alc is described as a hidden relic lost in time by the group of researchers/treasure seekers that have been trying to track her, because her magic is too advanced and her language is nothing like they've seen before. The time she spent on Earth left her disgruntled, bitter, and made her lose patience with humans. Despite her bitterness, she still helps sailors and others stranded at sea reach land safely. She'll guide them through storms and lead them to safer waters if they go off course, but will leave immediately after.
A statue/relic was found with the letters "A L C' inscribed in it and while the rest have been rubbed off. No one knows if her real name is Alchemy or Alcmene, but clues have lead them to narrow possibilities down to those two names. Alc is a nickname for her. Very few have claimed to see her visit the site of the statue every now and then, but no one is really sure if it's actually her; they've only heard stories of her appearance. Some treasure seekers think that the only reason she frequents the statue is because it holds a secret that will lead them to something extremely valuable, but so far they've been unsuccessful in their endeavors.

Alc has been alive for thousands of years. She isn't actually a creature from any species, she was created by an old alchemist as a gift for his daughter. The alchemist created her using ocean water, gold, and a piece of red cloth from his daughter's dolls. But he later sold his daughter for gold to fund his "research", ripping Alc and his daughter apart. The two were very close and were all each other had. After the daughter was sent away, the alchemist continued with his research and taught Alc everything he knows, allowing her to be able to use magic and alchemy as well. With what she learned from him and everything else she learned during her own time, she created a small gem that she wears at all times. The small seafoam colored gem contains the soul of the alchemist's daughter. Alc created the gem after the daughter's death as a way to be with her forever and makeup for the time they lost together. Alc travels the oceans to see and experience new things, because her owner wasn't able to do so while she was still alive. She's able to live her life (to an extent) through the stone Alc wears; she sees what Alc sees, hears what Alc hears, etc.
She frequents the site of an old relic that no one has been able to decipher yet. But really it's just a grave with an ancient tombstone that belongs to the alchemist's daughter. Humans that have seen her think she's good luck or is hiding a secret that leads to great treasures because of her alchemical and magical abilities. The flower she wears in her hair is her favorite type of flower and only grows in a secluded spot on the island she lives on.
She started off the size of a horse, but because she's been alive for so long and has been slowly, but continually growing, she's now about the size/length of a humpback whale. Sailors would often mistake her for the lochness monster or a kracken due to her size and shadow underwater.
