In another universe I questioned what might have been. Could we have become something else? Something great? Would we build shelters that cascaded the clouds? Would we escape the primal instinct to act on impulse?
The answer was
No
A long time ago, when the universe was created Earth was born. During it's creation creatures were born, a hierarchy of those was created to obtain some sort of twisted order. Survival of the fittest was based upon genetics and though some were better than others, there was always genetic anomalies.
These were blessed creatures that rose above the rest. They were the future. We expected that they might challenge the expected hierarchy, a thought that would birth chaos in an already broken world. Eventually the difference between human and ape became so small it was hard to make the decision which was in fact superior.
That was when humans created weapons. Every other specie used their own mechanisms to defeat a foe. Did this make humans superior? I would like to believe not. They wiped out colonies of anomalies like a lion might a gazelle. I believe ingenuity is a credit given with honour that which humanity lacked.
How can you fight fire? Well, you too harness the essence. The humans were cowards, they attacked at the time of most weakness. More often than not they attacked during the rest of the anomalies. I watched as Satyr, Centaur & many others were removed from Earth. Only to become legends and myths.
My colony was slightly luckier. Small as we were, we survived because of what they believed we were. Vermin. We shifted from our full forms into our lesser more nerving counter parts. We were not an anomaly, we evolved. For awhile we fought war against the humans. Long and hard we fought until our race was nearly purged from the surface.
Until we decided to leave the surface. We burrowed into the ground and created a catalyst within the core, to create a refugee from humanity. For years we have stayed here dormant leaving our sanctuary only to replenish necessities. We are watching and waiting. Some day we will return.
On that day, humanity will become the
VERMIN.
