Hunting the Ice Shark
You look up at the quest board and sigh softly to yourself, there isn't much choice since all the top hunters beat you to the most rewarding hunts. As you gaze through the different quests to hunt a vast array of monsters from the ferocious Rathalos to the incredibly annoying Nerscylla, an angry fisherman slams a new hunting order on the board. With bright eyes filled with excitement you take a good look at the hunt that was just posted. Ice monster in the frozen seaway needs to be dealt with A.S.A.P. What kind of monster could this hunt be for? It was most likely just an annoying Lagombi, that thing could be taken care of with ease! (Especially with your new slick fire dual blades)Ready to serve a beat down, you quickly grab the posted quest and hand it in the guild marm before going on your way. "Hey doodle, you sure you're prepared to face this thing?" The guild marm asked politely as she fixed her glasses while looking you up and down. You nod in excitement as you accept the hunt. Before departing on your journey you quickly stuff your face with a delicious hot meal and do your last minute check to make sure you have everything you need. Potions? Check! Hot Potions? Check! Whetstones? Check! You're all set to go!
The journey to the Frozen Seaway was a quick and simple one thanks to the guild and their unlimited resources. "We'll be back in an hour! We don't care if we have to drag your dead ass back, you have ONE HOUR TOPS!" The ferryman laughs as you're dropped off at the base camp.
Immediately you get to work and pick up a map and a few last minute supplies from the base camp, scanning the zones on the map carefully before setting out. Taking a swig of one of your hot potions to ensure you don't freeze to death, you take off in full sprint towards where you think the beast might have been seen last. Thinking the best idea might be to head where the frozen lake fisherman would have been at.Pushing your way through what seems like the beginnings of a snowstorm, you take cover for a moment in a nearby cave. Noticing you’re out of breath from that jog across the entrance of the frozen seaway, you take a moment and wolf down a ration or two to replenish your stamina. Ready to take on the world you set off again after your prize.
In no time you make it to the large open area the fisherman claimed to have been attacked by the horrible beast. Drawing your weapons, you scan the icy field for signs of the giant monster. Nothing. You turn around to go elsewhere when you notice a large spiked fin coming out of the ice directly behind you. The spike almost resembled that of a large shark. Curious of this weird fin you watch it for a moment, no movement at all. You tap it with one of your fiery blades and let out a laugh, the “fin” must just be some icicle that popped out of the ground from the fish beneath the ice. Pausing for a moment you put the dots together… Fish under the ice and a sudden shark like fin that protruded from the ice… Your eyes widen as the thought of a giant shark under the ice came to mind. Before you could even realize the horrible mess you’re in your body is sent flying as the angry creature smashed its way through the ice to the surface.As you quickly scramble to your feet and get a good grip on your weapons, you watch as the creature pulls its way out of the water and turns in your direction. The creature looked like a quadrupedal grey-blue shark monster with yellow accents, it looked a lot fiercer than anything you had ever fought before. Knowing that this was the creature you were intended to hunt, you quickly pump yourself up and charge off towards the beast.
WHAP! You were thrown back again, this time from a sharp beam of water from the beast’s mouth. Already in so much pain, you drink back one of the potions you brought. Feeling a slight pang of cold from being drenched from head to toe in a frozen climate, you shake it off and get back on your feet.
The Zamtrios snapped its jaws at you defiantly as it stood its ground then roared loudly. Trying to cover your ears from the earth shattering sound you refuse to drop your guard; deciding it would be better to be more careful. Stomping its front foot, the beast shook for a moment encasing itself in what seemed like an icy suit of armor. Great. Not only does that thing hit like a truck, it’s more armoured than one. Refusing to give up you try to attack the beast from the side. Rolling out of the way of incoming water beams you try to close the gap between the two of you. Leaping towards the creature with both weapons in hand ready to unleash hell, you’re swatted like a fly with its tail and sent flying into the nearest ice wall.
Drinking back the last potion in your inventory, you start to worry if you’re going to be able to even make it back alive at this point. You had yet to even make a dent in the Zamtrios’ armour. In the distance you hear the horn of the ferry, meaning you are nearing an hour and are due back to the base camp. Accepting your defeat for the time being, you turn to flee from the giant beast. Running back towards the base camp, the giant shark gives chase by diving back under the ice. All you can see again of the Zamtrios is its large back fin closing in on you. Running away with every ounce of stamina left in you, a small glint of hope appears exiting from the cave ahead of you; 2 incredibly geared hunters. One of the hunters is armed with a shield and lance while the other stood behind him with a cannon like gun. “HAUL ASS YOU IDIOT!” The ace hunter yells out at you as he raises his shield ready to block the Zamtrios as it made its watery exit.Your body is thrown once again as the ice under your feet is lifted by the giant beast. The good news is you were flung into the safety of the cave, the bad news is you hit your head hard and passed out.Eventually you stir awake and jump to your feet when you realise you were safely transported back to the ferry. You think back and try to remember how you ended up on the ship, the last thing you remember was a giant bang from the gunner’s cannon shooting down the beast’s open maw. Did they defeat it?
The two ace hunters noticed you have woken up and make their way over. “Stick to the Lagombis and Kecha Wachas until you get your rank up! Jumping ahead in ranks without the proper equipment will get you killed! Zamtrios’ aren’t as simple as the other 4 star hunts.” The ace hunter who wielded the lance seems concerned for you, the gunner on the other hand smiles. “Well if it wasn’t for them being our bait I would have never landed that perfect shot. That was a beaut! Here, take this!” The gunner tosses you a Zamtrios scale. “But yeah I agree, if you insist on taking on the big hunts bring friends or something next time!”
You look down at the shining scale in your hands and nod, you’ll be back to the frozen seaway soon with a new determination, new gear and some buddies to back you up. You’ll be ready for the next time a Zamtrios hunt is posted.
