Oberon needs no access point to ooze into a room but he always appreciates an easy entry. The young tigrean left the window open just a crack to dispel some of the heat of summer. His current target is already well into a dream of charming little gingerbread felis guiding him down the caramel-coated road of Candy Forest.

Oberon chuckles at the particularly wicked nightmare he has concocted for this youngster.

Taffy bushes and lollipop trees are uprooted by creatures formed from mud and studded with clumps of mossy green hair. The trees tumble down to be replaced by enormous stalks of broccoli and celery. The tigrean's cheerful companions twist and turn, taking on the form of the creepy shadow people. They are an invention of a nasty older brother who thinks it is funny to watch the youngster crawling under his bed with a flashlight every night before lights out.

Oberon is no less eager to send that brother visions of massive, pus-filled pimples that erupt as he is leaning in to kiss the cute lain in his homeroom. The bringer of night terrors has no favorites, only victims.

The young tigrean is nearing the cave where he believes the beautiful Princess Snowflake will cast a spell to make the horrors go away. The black-cloaked hag bares crooked black teeth as she cackles madly and leans in to swallow the tigrean whole.

Oberon is gone before the child wakes, on to seek his next victim.

She actually has the name of her boyfriend on her lips as she dreams of a pair of xotls rowing them down the center of a romantic canal. It took the telenine many weeks to convince the handsome dragarth to go out with her. Their three months as a couple have been the best of her life and she can't imagine life without him.

They step to the bank together as Oberon creeps up the wall and casts a shadow over her sleeping form.

The ruffie on the opposite bank crosses the little cobbled bridge with confidence, her killer heels in no way affecting the graceful motion of her shapely legs. The dragarth is smitten, dropping the telenine's paw and starting forward with that familiar crooked smile on his face. The telenine watches in dismay as they walk away together, entering a house with flower boxes on the windows and the sound of a marvelous party floating from the flat rooftop.

The telenine has no skill at parties. In reality, she knows she is holding her love back in life. She huddles on the sidewalk, weeping as passing Subetans look on her with disgust. Why shouldn't they? She is nothing.

She comes awake, clinging to the spare pillow that still smells faintly of her love's cologne. He's only at work. He is a good dragarth. He would never hurt her like that.

She takes no notice of the shadow sliding into the air vent.

Oberon does not limit his attentions to the weak and insecure. His last victim on the eastern half of the world is an irion with thousands of victories in battle and an intelligence level that has earned her the top position at SAI. She has every reason to enjoy a dream of soaring clear skies, for there are no clouds in her life of comfort and happiness.

Oberon does not hesitate to provide some.

The sky darkens and rumbles with thunder. She streaks for the safety of the growing shore but even battle-trained wings can only move so fast. The lightning bolt sizzles over her body, melting her flight feathers and sending her plummeting to the murky depths of the water below.

Her confidence is high at first. Even with the loss of her wings, her body is well able to handle the tide. Her muscles revel in the challenge and her common sense puts her on a course parallel to shore that will allow for easy swimming until the weather calms.

What she did not take into account was the creature lurking in the depths. There is no sense to the massive, invisible tentacle that wraps slimy suckers around her body. There is only a terrible weight and coldness that drags her beak below the surface. Her fearful cry explodes in a stream of rainbow bubbles. She knows that her air supply is gone and that she is helpless, doomed to the worst death a creature of the sky can possibly face.

Oberon is greatly amused to watch the warrior leap from her bed with sword in hand. One can hardly conquer a dream with steel.

The first gray hint of sun on the horizon is his cue to leave the waking half of the world and proceed across the water, where thousands of sleepy minds are giving in to the sandman's call and inviting the malevolence of a kumos who finds delight in darkness and despair.
