such a long way to fall

You suddenly find yourself on your back, wondering where you are. How did you get here…? Did you fall down? Looking upwards, vast columns tower above you, intertwined with vines and other overgrown foliage, and light that comes from far above.

This place is strange… with its atmospheric tinges of monotone gray all around. Golden flowers lie underneath you; they must have broken your fall. Despite the fact that your weight should have crushed them, they seem like resilient little plants. How curious. There seems to be a corridor, and at the end of the hallway, an exit, adorned with a strange marking and pillars to either side.

Passing through the entryway, you see darkness, and a single area illuminated by light. A small patch of grass lies in the center of this new room, and waiting for you is a flower, a broad, friendly smile across his face. Six yellow petals adorn his head, and single, ever-so-slightly bent stem roots him to the ground.

You step closer to the center of the room. "Howdy!" the flower greets in a somewhat high-pitched tone, his smile never wavering. "I'm Flowey. Flowey the Flower!"

Flowey seems to analyze you for a moment, "Hmm… You're new to the Underground, aren'tcha? Golly, you must be so confused." His tone almost sounds concerned, "Someone ought to teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do."

"Ready? Here we go!" Flowey says quite enthusiastically, and suddenly you feel as though the limitations of your physical body are melting away from this world, as if you are in something of another dimension. A spiritual plane, perhaps. Everything seems so focused here, as if your world is narrowing down to the flower that is conversing with you.

"See that heart?" You do see it. Your existence has become a singular red heart, bright in comparison to this monotone world. "That is your SOUL, the very culmination of your being!" Flowey confirms, watching as you drift around in front of him. There seems to be a barrier of some sort between you and he, a limitation of movement. You test these boundaries, but they do not bend to your will.

"Your SOUL starts off weak, but can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV," he continues. His smile still there, a constant thus far. Is he, perhaps, amused at your antics? Perhaps your SOUL being weak is the reason why this boundary exists. Perhaps if it was strong, you could one day manipulate it to do your own bidding.

As if following your train of thought, Flowey clarifies for you, "What's LV stand for? Why, LOVE, of course! You want some LOVE, don't you?" An interesting dilemma…

Seeing your countenance - or perhaps lack thereof - Flowey grins, "Don't worry, I'll share some with you!" The little yellow flower winks, sticking his tongue out rather playfully.

Without missing a beat, he launches back into his explanation, "Down here, LOVE is shared through… little white… 'friendliness pellets.' " As he speaks, five of these so-called "friendliness pellets" appear, spinning over his head.

"Are you ready? Move around! Get as many as you can!" The flower encourages, as the strange, alabaster pebbles make their way to you, all the while spinning around and around.

Do you accept or reject his LOVE?
ACCEPT | REJECT
you really ARE an idiot

You leap towards the friendliness pellets, but as they make contact with your SOUL, pain encompasses your being, so devastating that you feel weak and fading. Alarm and panic spread through you, and you look over to see that the once-pleasant flower is wearing a grin, but not a kind one. His eyes have gone blank, crooked and staring with malicious intent, his teeth sharp and wide, like a demonic creature wishing to devour you right up.

"You idiot," he mocks, seeming quite pleased with himself, his voice no longer that welcoming tone. It's darker, deeper, far more intense - his words nearly dripping with hostility. "In this world, it's kill or BE killed," Flowey hisses, "Why would ANYONE pass up an opportunity like this!?"

His face suddenly changes again, right before your vision, a twisted smile on his devious face, his eyes dark and condescending. He seems so… gleeful. As if savoring this moment, an entire plethora of these "friendliness pellets" surround you, cornering you. There is nowhere to hide.

"Die."

A single word, uttered so intensely, heralding your impending annihilation. The bullets slowly circle you, coming ever closer, and you know you are far too damaged already to survive contact with a single one of them. You are hopeless. Hopeless and alone. Flowey's laughter echoes throughout this darkness, and as the bullets nearly strike you, you brace yourself for the killing blow.

…But it doesn't come.

A light fills your soul, and you are not alone. Your strength returns, and for a split second, Flowey seems enraged. In the corner of your vision, a spark of fire manifests itself into the darkness before hurdling itself at the flower. He seems to notice it a second too late, and is fully hit by its blast, thrown out of your sightline and lost to the darkness. You thought about looking around for where he has gone, but suddenly a new figure is standing before you.

"What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth," she says. Her voice is so calm and alluring, and you feel a peace that was not present before. She seems to be a kind creature, her countenance genuinely worried and concerned for your welfare.

You stare at her in wonder, as she is a white beast, with two small horns about her head and large ears that droop to her side. She rather reminds you of a certain animal, in fact, though she stands as you do, garbed in a lovely violet dress with the same symbol you've seen somewhere before.

"Ah, do not be afraid, my child."

Do you choose to trust these strange creatures, and show them MERCY? Or do you remember the betrayal, and Flowey's words of "kill or be killed," and FIGHT your way through this land?

Which route do you wish to take?
MERCY | FIGHT
don't you have anything better to do?

You sidestep gracefully out of the way of the "friendliness pellets." Given that they were simply casually falling towards you, this was rather child's play. You can tell, however, that this immediately strikes a nerve within the flower, and though he is technically still smiling, it resembles more of a disdainful scowl.

"Hey buddy. You missed them. Let's try again, okay?" he says through gritted teeth. A moment later, the smile he wore before returns, but you already have your suspicions. It's too kind of a smile, as if constructed. Plastic. Fake. As he summons more of the strange white objects, you again maneuver out of the way, untrusting of this strange plant.

Flowey looks even more pissed off than before. He almost seems on the verge of rage, and glares angrily in your direction. "Is this a joke?" he says, heatedly, "Are you braindead? RUN. INTO. THE. BULLETS!!!" For just a moment, he looks a bit aghast, and you feel a moment of disorientation. Did he really say bullets? "Friendliness pellets" rings in your memory instead, as if overwriting the data there. No, it was friendliness pellets. You were just imagining things. Or were you…?

Still slightly dazed, more of these friendliness pellets fly towards you, perhaps slightly faster than before. Or is your mind just tricking you again? And yet, a subconscious side of you leaps out of the way of their range, as if you know deep down the truth. Flowey looks on as you do this, his smile lasting on his face for a few moments, before it just breaks entirely. His smiling facade completely melts away, his eyes blank and dark, his mouth twisted. Somehow, he looks so empty, and at the same time, filled with malice.

"You know what’s going on here, don't you?" he hisses, his deadpan stare piercing your soul, his words soaked to the brim with the bitterness of a thousand ages. "You just wanted to see me suffer."

No longer willing to merely "trick" you into throwing yourself in the line of fire, Flowey surrounds your SOUL with bullets, effectively trapping you within its ring.

"Die."

A single word, uttered so intensely, heralding your impending annihilation. The bullets slowly circle you, coming ever closer, and he bursts out in laughter, savoring this spiteful moment. You are hopeless. Hopeless and alone. Flowey's laughter echoes throughout this darkness, and as the bullets nearly strike you, you brace yourself for the killing blow.

…But it doesn't come.

A light fills your soul, and you are not alone. The bullets dissipate as they draw nigh to you, and for a split second, Flowey seems enraged. In the corner of your vision, a spark of fire manifests itself into the darkness before hurdling itself at the flower. He seems to notice it a second too late, and is fully hit by its blast, thrown out of your sightline and lost to the darkness. Suddenly, a new figure is standing before you.

Do you choose to trust these strange creatures, and show them MERCY? Or do you remember the betrayal and FIGHT your way through this land?

Which route do you wish to take?
MERCY | FIGHT
despite everything it's still you

You have appeased many monsters. You refused to hurt anyone, despite everything. But these Ruins are very small, and you have places to go. You must leave them behind. Even when you were told to fight or run away, you have proven yourself worthy, and you continue through the great doorway with that recurring symbol. A long corridor awaits you, and you make your way through it, its lavender and amethyst hues seeming both regal and surreal simultaneously.

At the end of the hallway, another great arch stands before you, and once passing through it, you see a familiar face. Flowey is there waiting for you, in a patch of light that resembles the same one you have seen before. You know better than to be fooled by his façade, though his face does not look pleased or welcoming. If anything, he seems quite annoyed.

"Clever. Verrrryyy clever," he intones, somehow sounding condescending. "You think you're really smart, don't you? In this world, it's kill or be killed." While saying this, his face lights back up into a smile, but quickly becomes twisted. "So you were able to play by your own rules. You spared the life of a single person. Hee hee hee."

"I bet you feel really great," Flowey continues, the annoyance on his face rather plain, "You didn't kill anybody this time." Right on cue, however, his smile flashes again, "But what will you do if you meet a relentless killer? You'll die and you'll die and you'll die, until you tire of trying." The flower has taken on an almost gleeful atmosphere at the prospect of your repeated deaths. "What will you do then?" he mocks.

"Will you kill out of frustration?" A darkness fills his eyes then, cold and malicious and empty. His teeth form a rather wicked smile once more, showcasing his true nature. "Or will you give up entirely on this world... and let ME inherit the power to control it?" Something seems to tell you that allowing him to have free reign over the underground would not be a wise choice. You have to protect your friends.

"I am the prince of this world's future. Don't worry, my little monarch, my plan isn't regicide. This is SO much more interesting."

Flowey's face forms in your vision then, a more encompassing, intimidating version of the countenance he has already been wearing. Laughter rings in your ears, echoing into the darkness like a reverberation of your feelings of dread. There was a cue in his words that you picked up on, and even though he seems ever so delighted to watch the pathway you will take, you cannot help but feel as though something else is happening here. Deep within your SOUL, something is resonating.

You are filled with DETERMINATION.
where are the knives

I have destroyed many monsters. Their dust coats my fingers and my clothing like a coating of death from all of the despair I have left in my wake. Nothing is safe from the swing of my weapon and the overwhelming presence of my LOVE. I called out for more signs of life, but nobody came, and so I continued through the great doorway with that recurring symbol. A long corridor awaits me, and I made my way through it, its lavender and amethyst hues seeming both haunting and desolate simultaneously.

At the end of the hallway, another great arch stands before me, and once passing through it, I see a familiar face. Flowey is there waiting for me, in a patch of light that resembles the same one I have seen before. He seems rather strangely pleased at what I have accomplished, a sadistic atmosphere encircling his small frame.

"Hahaha," he giggles, "You're not really human, are you? No. You're empty inside. Just like me. In fact..." Flowey pauses for a mere second, his eyes analyzing me, his mouth for once curved downward as he recognizes me.

"You're Chara, right?" He can see who I truly am; it is not surprising, given that he was once my best friend. Before he betrayed me, that is, and got us both killed.

"We're still inseparable, after all these years..."

Or are we? I remember what you did. Flowey continues, oblivious to my inner thoughts, "Listen. I have a plan to become all powerful, even more powerful than you and your stolen soul." His face flickers a brief flash of a smirk, as if he is pleased that he knows what is going on here, but intensifies as he spells out his true malicious intent, "Let's destroy everything in this wretched world. Everyone, everything in these worthless memories... Let's turn them all to dust."

He donned the face of our adopted mother, albeit a crooked, contorted version, as if to illustrate his idea. Yes, let's destroy everything here, and erase this pointless world so that we can move onto the next. This is the purpose of my reincarnation; power. I will eradicate the enemy and become strong.

"Hmm, that's a wonderful idea!" he says quite merrily. Yes. A wonderful idea. I will not stop until everything surrenders itself in my path, until a thick layer of ash and powder paint this world in a monotone, pallid hue. Not even Flowey will be safe from my resolve to bend this world to my will and my will alone.

I am filled with DETERMINATION.
