This sentient, parasitic plant species Aeanoid substrata lives deep underground, usually in tunnels beneath pine forests.

It's such a skilled parasite that it has almost no chlorophyll, and instead feeds from the trees above, tapping into the roots with its needle-like teeth. That said, it can photosynthesise when it feels inclined - especially during spring when its feeling a little wistful, or in winter when the trees above are covered in snow. It's far too delicate to go above ground, however; instead it bathes its thin, feeble, little leaflets in delicious candle light.

Although this specimen is my pet, it largely likes to be left alone. I just drop by occasionally to top up its stockpile of tealights and matches.
