Equinnox ~ Keeper of the Winter Solstice. He runs upon the hills howling for snow and ice. Ice and snow faeries, gossamer wings twinkling in the silent frozen night, help to bring winter to the forest in the Land of the Shadows. Pale moon glows on snow packed trails lighting their way. Holly trees glisten as fresh snow dusts their bright red fruit and spiky leaves. Equinnox's Vita, Marja, perches on a snow covered branch, her bright red eyes watching autumns tide of red and gold giving way to a blue ice and frost filled landscape. Some leaves rustle at the foot of a very old oak tree. It's a Marsh Popoko gathering acorns to roast for the winter festival. To backtrack a little: When Equinnox was born the elders looked for the mark that would ascertain if he was to be the next Solstice Bringer. All of the Kumos cubs when born had the tattooed striations of pale bluish green mixed in with their white fur. It was a genetic stamp passed down to the male cubs for thousands of years. Now this mark was very special and if the cub didn't have it, then he was passed over until a cub was born who did have the mark. Now back to present day. The little marsh Popoko was gathering acorns and holly boughs for the festival. Most of the members of the forest were each assigned a certain thing to gather and bring to get ready for the three days of celebration. The holly berries were special and only the Popoko's knew how to mix them with the green herbs for the feast. The tribe known as "Human" could not eat the berries and they also did not know how to mix them. If a Human ate the berries raw it could cause much sickness. Which they found out much to their detriment. However, Kumos, Fae and Elven folk could all eat the berries which also benefited them greatly and gave them great powers of foresight and certain types of strengths and abilities. Faeries were in charge of the lights that were strung from the bushes and trees that were laid bare when Equinnox roamed the forest and lakes bringing winter. The tiny twinkling lights cast a soft glow on all of the glistening snow and ice. Soon the clearing would be filled with all of the creatures of this great land as they ate and drank and paid homage to the greatness of the Creator. Before, during and after the celebration many blessings were bestowed on the inhabitants of these woodlands. So they all participated with glee and thanksgiving.
