Old Woman Josie says that the Angels who have been living with her — helping around the house and ultimately protecting her from all evils — have disappeared. It’s hard to say just how sad this news is, for two important reasons:1. Angels are not real, and2. We are not allowed to know about their existence or hierarchical structure."

Josefina turned up the volume of her phonograph; the music of her favourite opera, Tosca byGiacomo Puccini, welled as the old women went into her kitchen. The Erika’s were standing around the oven, watching a pie bake––staring, unblinking–waiting. The old women smiled, “don’t worry dears, it should be ready now…” She went to get her oven mitts, placing them on her hands, she went to bend down. She murmured; a slight ‘ugh’ escaped her lips. It hurt to bend down; it appeared that she strained her back while on bowling night with Cecil. With a sign, and a slight smile, she looked up to the angels, “Erika,” referring to the multiple angles standing near her, “can you be a dear please, and get the pie out of the oven for me?” She handed the oven mitts to them, with another sweet smile. The Erika’s appeared to have glowed a bit brighter, as one of them placed on the oven mitts, [even though they did not need them, there eternal, immortal beings after all, but if it pleased the old women they would place on the unnecessary mitts] following doing so, they get the pie of the oven, glowing a brighter glow, and humming, as in hopes to present that they were happy, for both the old women and the pie. The old women smiled, “thank you, dears.” She cut the pie, and placed slices of that pie, on individual plates for the beings, called Erika. The beings followed the old women into the living room, sitting down around her, as both the old women and the angles, ate the freshly baked pie; silently listening to Tosca.
