jake's life was turned upside-down when he found himself no longer on earth, but in an entirely different world known as the digital world, a strange and malleable place inhabited by sentient data-based beings called digital monsters. upon arrival he met shoutmon, a dragonlike digimon with a brash personality that called itself jake's partner. with little real choice in the unknown and dangerous world, he took the little digimon up on its offer of friendship, and the two became close surprisingly quickly.

prior to being swept into another world, jake was a perfectly ordinary teenager. generally mellow, he prefers to keep a low profile and try to avoid the dramatics that teenagers are so prone to, and he gets along with most people easily enough. he's a fairly talented guitar player for his age and enjoys music in general, along with video games and collectible card games.

Shoutmon

shoutmon's aggressive, hot-headed nature is a contrast to jake's more laidback personality, but they balance each other out and get along well. they also share a love for music. with jake's guitar back in the real world, shoutmon has made it a personal mission to help him find a new guitar so the two of them can have a real jam session. (it considers this a much higher priority than actually getting its partner back to his home; shoutmon certainly doesn't want to part ways anytime soon.)

as glad as jake is to have shoutmon, their partnership has also become another source of stress for him. he longs to return to the comfort and stability of his home on earth, where his biggest concerns were passing his classes and finding a boyfriend; but he has no idea how shoutmon would fit into that previous ordinary life... or if it would even physically be able to.
