In 2005 his childhood friend G-Dragon, who had been a trainee at YG Entertainment for years already, contacted him to audition when YG was scouting to create a boy band. Initially Seung-hyun was rejected by the record label for being too chubby for an "idealistic version" of an idol.He was signed on at a later audition after having lost about 20kg in 40 days. From this point on he adopted the stage name of T.O.P.

Now grouped with four other members, Seung-hyun became one of two rappers in the group BigBang. They debuted with the album 'Since 2007'which included T.O.P's first solo song "Big Boy". The album itself received a lukewarm reception from fans, it wasn't until the releass of the track "Lies" from the extended ep. 'Always' that the group reached mainstream success.

Following Bigbang's albums and singles, T.O.P started working on his solo career in 2007. T.O.P collaborated with other artists on hit singles, but he was also the first member of his group to venture into acting. In 2008, Seung-hyun was admitted to Dankook University to the theatre department to further expand his acting knowledge.

After starring in countless movies and television series, 2010 was a great year for T.O.P where he earned several awards for his acting and marked the beginning of his solo musical debut. "Turn It Up" was T.O.P's first single which allowed him to become the first Korean artist to have his song released worldwide on iTunes. Gaining momentum, Seung-hyun teamed up with his bandmate and friend G-Dragon to release the increasingly successful album "GD & TOP".

Moving forwards to 2012, T.O.P focused his attention back on acting after the release of Bigbang's "Alive" album. Starring as a lead role in the film "Commitment" earned the rapper several awards such as the Rookie Award at the Asia Star Awards. Keeping his solo career going strong with the release of "Doom Dada" in 2013, T.O.P held #1 status for several weeks accross Asia.

Expanding his goals, in 2015 T.O.P debuted as a furniture designer in collaboration with a Swiss company by the name of Vitra. The rapper built on his love of art and secret passion to collect chairs. 2015 was also a large year for Bigbang with the release of their "Made" album, launching the group into their first worldwide tour.

Tragedy struck fans with the announcement in late 2016 that Seung-hyun was preparing to do his mandatory two-year military service. He began his service on February 9, 2017 and will complete his 21 month duty as a police soldier by November 8, 2018. Fans stay strong and support their idol to this day as he works through his military service. He's had a few bumps along the road concerning his mental health, after a large incident causing a giant breakdown fans rally to his side to keep him going. He is continuing his military service to this day, close to family and friends for support. You can do it T.O.P!
