Lexie grew up among a small fishing village mostly comprised of sea elves like herself and a few other aquatic species such as the tritons. For the better part of her life nothing remarkable happened, and for Lexie that was just plain boring. She dreamed of adventure, longed for the wandering life, but she also knew she had a responsibility to her family and could not simply just up and leave. This was further complicated by another sea elf that Lexie was in love with since childhood, but she never had the courage to ask him for the relationship she longed for.

As she neared adulthood Lexie was expected to contribute to the community if she was to stay. Having always had an affinity for playing music Lexie spoke to the elders and came to the conclusion that it was best she attend a bard's college for more formal education. Her music could be played to help bring in coin from travelers passing through, and the social skills she learned could be used for diplomatic reasons as well. Lexie also hoped she'd gain the confidence to return home and confess to her childhood crush, so she packed up and was off shortly thereafter.

For a few years Lexie attended the school, mingled with the outsiders, and honed her skills. She became one of the best, learning to weave magic into her words and songs along the way. After graduating she returned home with her head held high to the waiting praise of her people. Yet it was all shattered when her beloved met her with a smile....and his wife. Lexie had learned enough to keep her smile on and deal with it, but inside she was broken to the point of crying herself to sleep for several weeks after her return.

As time healed the wound Lexie realized someone was vying for her affections; the friend of her childhood crush. Seeing that as a way to be close to him Lexie returned his feelings and eventually they too were married, the two becoming four as her crush and his wife spent time with them as well. Then things became difficult as Lexie realized she still had feelings for her crush and he was finally seeing her for the first time as well, realizing his mistake in marrying another. The two started to become involved, and eventually had planned to leave their respective spouses to be with each other.

The night the two made their final plans, however, Lexie's crush was arrested the next morning by town guards. Apparently a knife well known to be his for its unique make had been used to kill his wife, and all the evidence pointed to him. He was taken into custody, tried and found guilty because he could not provide an alibi for that night. Lexie begged him when she could have private moments to tell the truth, but he would not tarnish her reputation and oust her as an adulterer and everyone simply believed Lexie was trying to say they'd been together because of her feelings for him. In fact it made her a suspect at one point, the authorities thinking maybe she'd killed his wife and was planning the murder of her own husband to chase her childhood crush, but in the end it all went back to the husband.

After the conviction and sentencing Lexie was distraught, and her own husband confessed that he had been the one behind the deed. He knew about the affair, and he knew that the only way to get Lexie back was to make sure the man she'd been cheating on him with was no longer accessible to her. More than upset at this but unable to prove it, Lexie left the village the next day and began to have her life of travel and adventure. She also wrote letters on a regular basis and sent them to the prison where her beloved was being held. What she saw and experienced, and letting him know she was doing well and was waiting for the day he'd be released so they could be together at last. He wasn't allowed to write back, and even if he was Lexie was traveling with no real destination, hopping ship to ship and town to town in order to distract herself.

When her beloved was to be released Lexie was there, proud and smiling, finally thinking things would start looking up only to have one more life-shattering event as the warden told her that her lover was dead. He'd been killed by another prisoner, and the warden had tried to write to Lexie to tell her but because she was always moving and her next destination was near impossible to predict he couldn't reach her. All they had for her was a box of her letters that had never been opened, her beloved and all his things had been cremated as was the custom in the land.

Unsure what to do with herself Lexie stayed the night at the nearest town and that night she tried to kill herself. She wanted to be with her lover, but instead he came to her in her half dead state and told her to live. He told her to keep traveling, keep seeing the world, keep writing to him. And when her time came she'd see him again in the afterlife and could tell him all about it. Lexie survived her attempt and woke the next morning, in tears and unsure if what she'd seen was really him or if it was some hallucination or even something nasty trying to take advantage of her. But she decided that just in case it really was him she'd honor his requests, so she pulled herself together and continued to travel, keeping a journal instead of letters but always writing to him so she could remember and tell him when they met again in the aftermath.
