“The sky is falling! The sky is falling!”

SpinelPuff heard the shrilling voice echo through the plains as she was eating. The marsh lasirus turned her head towards the sound and saw a chibi mallarchy running around in circles. With a peach in hand, SpinelPuff walked over to the mallarchy and asked her what was going on.

“The sky is falling!” the chibi mallarchy explained. “A piece of it fell on my head!”

“Oh my!” exclaimed SpinelPuff, “you aren’t seriously hurt are you?”

“No,” replied the mallarchy, shaking her head, “but now I’m trying to warn everybody.”

SpinelPuff shook her head as the chibi mallarchy ran away to warn others of the impending doom. The lasirus looked up at the wide blue sky. She could not see any signs that the sky was falling apart.

But looks can be deceiving, SpinelPuff thought. I must get a closer look at the sky!

Now you would expect that checking the sky was a simple matter for a lasirus, but alas, SpinelPuff was incapable of flight. So the lasirus went to a family of festers that lived beside a mountain and told them what she had heard. The festers were skeptical because they also had seen no signs of the sky falling. SpinelPuff told the festers that she nevertheless wanted to gather every creature capable of flight and have them examine the sky to see if it was really falling. In addition, SpinelPuff had remembered that there was a big warehouse filled with timber and various tools. They could use those items to repair the sky in case it was falling apart. The festers were impressed by SpinelPuff’s cleverness and agreed to help her. While the festers soared away to examine the sky, SpinelPuff traveled around to find other flying creatures who were willing to aid the cause.

SpinelPuff first found two lains, colored silver and blacklight respectively. The blacklight lain had actually heard about the sky falling, but wasn’t completely convinced such a thing was true.

“A chibi mallarchy came by here a while ago and told me and my cousins that the sky was falling,” recounted the blacklight lain. “All my cousins freaked out when they heard and ran away with the chibi mallarchy to warn everyone else. I wasn’t so sure, so I stayed behind.”

“The whole thing sounds bizarre, for how on earth could the sky fall to the ground?” the silver lain mused.

“It’s a concerning thing nevertheless,” the blacklight lain responded. “We’ll check the sky and see what’s wrong.” The lains saluted SpinelPuff and flew away.

The next flying animal that SpinelPuff found was a gold dragarth. He was playing with a glade urubu. The dragarth found the idea of the sky falling preposterous, but the glade urubu was concerned.

“Just imagine how many people could be hurt if the sky collapses on top of us!” he exclaimed.

The dragarth remained unconvinced, but the urubu went with SpinelPuff to seek more help.

Soon the two pets found five harvesters. After they told the harvesters about the sky falling, three of the harvesters agreed to go and examine the sky. The other two went off to find more help. SpinelPuff and the urubu then sought out the warehouse. However, they ended up lost and couldn’t find the building. Then a small swarm of bumbii flew by. SpinelPuff called out to them and asked them if they knew where the warehouse was. The bumbii did, so they guided SpinelPuff and her urubu companion to the warehouse. At the warehouse, the glade urubu told the bumbii about the sky falling. The bumbii were confused but agreed to help.

“We will notify our queen about this strange news. She can send out a team of bumbii to check the sky to see if it’s falling,” one of the bumbii stated.

As the bumbii flew away, SpinelPuff went to look inside the warehouse to see what they could use to fix the possibly broken sky.

Meanwhile, the chibi mallarchy had stirred a bunch of animals into a frenzy over the sky falling. When the group of fearful creatures encountered a jollin, she told them to go see the wise noktoa that gave counsel to those who needed it most. The jollin led the frightened band of animals to the wise noktoa’s home in a nearby forest. At the noktoa’s home, the chibi mallarchy breathlessly told the noktoa about the piece of the sky falling on her head.

“And…where exactly did this happen?’ the noktoa asked.

“Near the river,” the mallarchy replied, “I was just minding my own business when WHAM!”

“Hmm,” the noktoa mused. “Let’s go to the river and see.”

Back at the warehouse, SpinelPuff and the glade urubu had managed to enter the warehouse and were browsing the items when they heard a voice.

“Hey! What are you doing here?’

The voice came from a glade manchu. He glared at the intruders. SpinelPuff and the urubu quickly explained what was going on.

“The sky’s falling and you need supplies to fix it? That doesn’t really make sense…What evidence do you have of such a bizarre thing?” asked the manchu.

“I’ve sent many flying creatures to check the sky for anything weird,” replied SpinelPuff. “You could ask one of them.”

The glade manchu scratched his head and responded, “Well..I’d like to check the sky for myself. Luckily I know someone who can help. Come on.”

The manchu took SpinelPuff and the glade urubu to his home, which was connected to a large airfield. There were two other manchus finishing up an engine check on a yellow plane.

The glade manchu introduced SpinelPuff and the urubu to the other manchus and explained the situation.

“What?!” one of the manchus, a spectrum manchu, guffawed. “That’s ridiculous! The sky’s not some giant puzzle! But if you need to see for yourselves,” he stated after he’d calmed down from his laughing fit, “we’re just about done with this checkup for this little spitter here. I’ll take ya up there.”

The other manchu, a nostalgic manchu who was holding the checkup list, simply nodded. A short time later, the spectrum manchu, the glade manchu and SpinelPuff got into the plane and went to check out the sky. During their flight, SpinelPuff managed to see the lains and festers that she had encountered earlier that day. One of the festers, a reborn fester, flew over to the plane.

“Hey, have you guys seen….wait, it’s you again!” she marveled. “Well, we’ve been looking and we haven’t seen any indication that the sky is damaged.”

“Wait, you too?” the spectrum manchu asked. “Slap my coconuts, this sounds like the newest and upcoming conspiracy theory!”

“Hey, I’m a big skeptic myself,” countered the fester. She pointed to Spinel Puff and explained, “that marsh lasirus asked us to check the sky because she encountered a pet who said a piece of the sky fell on her head!”

“Well,” went the spectrum manchu, “since nothing seems to be wrong, I guess we’ll head back.”

When the plane, the festers, and lains landed on the ground the nostalgic manchu motioned for everyone to follow her. She led them to a gathering of the glade urubu, the two harvesters that had gone to seek help, and a mysterious creature that none of the pets had seen before. The glade urubu was muttering to himself and the other pets seemed rather concerned.

“We found this creature wandering around, and he has quite the story to tell you,” the harvesters said.

SpinelPuff, the festers, the lains, and the manchus gazed at the strange creature with curiosity. It was a green monkey that had a stick stored in its tuft of hair.

“My name is Grookey,” the creature began, “and I believe I’m terribly lost….”

It turns out that Grookey had been chasing a bird who had stolen his prized possession: a snow globe. During the chase, a giant blue portal appeared. The bird ended up dropping the snow globe into the portal and Grookey had dived in after his prized possession. The next thing Grookey remembered was opening his eyes and finding himself in a tree! Grookey then searched the tree branches for his snow globe, but he sadly could not find the treasured possession.

“First the sky is falling, and now a monkey falls through a portal?! What is this madness??” cried the spectrum manchu.

“That’s exactly what I thought when I first heard his tale,” the glade urubu interjected.

“So where’s the tree you fell into?” SpinelPuff asked Grookey.

When SpinelPuff’s band arrived at the tree that Grookey had gotten stuck in, they were greeted by a concerning sight. Several creatures were gathered around the tree and they were in an uproar. Among these creatures was the chibi mallarchy that SpinelPuff had met earlier. There was also someone that the glade urubu recognized.

“This doesn’t look good,” the blacklight lain mused.

“Isn’t that the wise noktoa?” the glade urubu asked. “If he’s here, something serious must be going on!”

The spectrum manchu courageously walked up to the noktoa and asked him, “What’s going on here?”

“I’m trying to allay these pets’ fears about the sky falling,” the noktoa explained. “This young mallarchy believes that while she was at this spot, a piece of the sky fell on her head. Her story has worked up others into a worrisome frenzy. And word is spreading fast; these bumbii just came to me of behalf of their queen for advice on what to do. “

SpinelPuff realized that these bumbii were the team that the helpful bumbus had mentioned. The marsh lasirus walked up to the crowd of animals and cleared her throat.

“Wise Noktoa, I’m afraid we need your assistance as well,” she began. “Earlier today, a mysterious creature managed to crash into a tree after entering a mysterious portal…”

“Wait, what?!” the jollin cried.

“This creature, named Grookey, was trying to retrieve a treasured possession. He ended up in a tree, and nothing in this area seems familiar to him,” SpinelPuff continued.

Suddenly, a clanging sound was heard. Everyone turned to see the nostalgic manchu clashing her cymbals together while standing in the river.

“Wait, you found something?” the glade manchu called. He, the nostalgic manchu, and the two harvesters had been searching the area for Grookey’s snowglobe.

The nostalgic manchu smiled, put her cymbals away, and reached into the river waters. Her hands came up holding a small round object.

The jollin and the noktoa went into the river to see what the manchu had found.

“It’s..a snowglobe???” the jollin stated in confusion.

At the word “snowglobe”, Grookey dashed into the river.

“Yes! That’s it! You found it!” Grookey danced joyfully as the noktoa took the snowglobe and handed it to him. The noktoa eyes twinkled as he walked out of the river.

“Ah, it all makes sense now,” he mused. “The sky didn’t fall on the mallarchy’s head, that snow globe did!”

“So we have nothing to worry about?” the bumbii team and the glade urubu asked.

The glade and spectrum manchus chuckled. “That idea makes more sense than the sky falling,” they agreed.

The crowd of animals murmured and started to disperse.

One of the two harvesters, a sweetheart harvester, was not convinced that a crisis had been averted.

“What about Grookey? Shouldn’t his story be a cause for concern?” she asked the wise noktoa.

“Not enough for people to think that the sky is actually falling,” the noktoa replied. He turned to the chibi mallarchy and said, “Young one, next time you must be more careful to not jump to conclusions and spread paranoia among others.”

SpinelPuff sighed and admitted, “I sort of spread the rumours as well. I just wanted to see if it was true and learn what needed to be done to fix the problem.”

The glade manchu spoke up, “She and her friend came to me asking for supplies to fix the sky because it might be broken. I don’t see anything wrong with trying to fix an issue.”

The festers injected, “Yeah! She came to us and told us of her plan to fix the sky. She said that the sky is so big that a lot of creatures would be needed to see if it was damaged or not. So she went around asking flying creatures like us for help since she can’t fly herself.”

“Then you are more mature than the mallarchy,” the noktoa told SpinelPuff, “for you tried to seek out a solution instead of just spreading fear to the general populace.”

A few weeks later a mysterious box was left on SpinelPuff’s doorstep. Attached to the box was a note that said, “I’ve heard of your cleverness and bravery during the falling sky panic. Here is a reward for your foresight. May your willingness to help propel you above the clouds.”

An intrigued SpinelPuff opened the box to find an angelic potion inside! She ingested the potion and obtained a beautiful new form. Even better, the lasirus found that she could finally fly! That very day she took Grookey, whom she had taken in after that fateful day, on a flight across the land. During their travels, they stopped to eat berries under the shade of some trees. Suddenly, something fell on SpinelPuff’s head! The angel lasirus looked down and saw an acornling staring up at her. SpinelPuff laughed and picked up the minion. The minion went home with SpinelPuff and Grookey and was fittingly named Bonk. That night Bonk nodded into dreamland while watching the falling snow in Grookey’s snowglobe.
