History:
His childhood was uneventful up to a point. When he was 11 a civil war broke out on his planet and the conflict swept across his homeland leaving genocide in its wake. Unfortunately for Sterlyn, his family was a member of the tribe that was being targeted. It was all they could do not to be killed in their own home. When the conflict was finally ended Sterlyn's family survived, but not without significant losses. They lived paycheck to paycheck and Sterlyn only stayed in school for as long as was legally required before going to work to help support his struggling family.

Until the war, Sterlyn had be planning on going to pilot school, but that could not happen anymore. He went to work with a metal worker who had just lost his assistant to the lure of space travel and pioneering. Under his tutelage, Sterlyn discovered two things: he would never stop wanting to travel the stars, and he was very, very good with his hands. All of his spare time was spent in the library learning all he could about the stars and space navigation. there was no requirement of a degree to take the Navigation certification test, an an economic upturn ensured he would not have to support his family forever. So teen-hood passed with little of the usual distractions. He had no time for girls or to get into trouble, because he was constantly either working or studying.

It took four tries and six years, but Sterlyn did pass that test. And now he has a new job as the lead navigator on a scientific research vessel.

Personality:
On the surface, he seems distant or withdrawn; he likes to keep to himself. He is a serious but not somber man, and is eloquent but soft-spoken. He actually gets stressed out very easily, which is why he tries to avoid getting into dramatic situations and has trouble relating to others in the short-term. There is a deep concern and warmth for those who, for whatever reason, he associates with over a long period of time and gets to know. He loves cold weather, but hates gray weather and prefers the start of snowfall to actually having snow on the ground. He is intelligent but not formally educated past the secondary level, so most of his intelligence is in areas that interest him.

He is not exactly insecure, but is surprised if someone takes a vested interest in him or compliments his appearance. He has not exactly ever expressed interest in someone romantically, but he has not expressed a LACK of interest either; He would be most interested someone who does not trigger his anxiety by being overly loud or upset him by being selfish/rude. He would prefer to sit in silence enjoying a book than a long conversation.

Appearance:
He is a tallish humanoid with deep blue skin, covered in raised silver tattoos that consist of major constellations in his home world skies. He is powerfully built, with broad shoulders and lean but well defined muscles. His hair is silvery-gray, and reflects light like metal. He usually wears it in a shaggy cut, just long enough that when he is working with metal he needs to wear a headband to hold it back. His facial features are chiseled but narrow, and his nose has what is usually described as "a lot of character", meaning it is a little bit big and crooked, but that it works with the rest of his face. The features of his race include: long, nimble fingers, black eyes with white-gold scelera, thin eyebrows, long flat feet, and large round ears.
