"NS-5?" Her voice echoed strangely in the spacious room, empty as it was save one metal table and one near-perfect android.

Pale viridian eyes snapped open at the voice command. Lifting his--Mira could never think of him as an it--head from the normal 'dormant' position, he fixed his cold gaze on her. "Yes?" he asked, in a perfect imitation of life, pitch rising and lowering at just the right moment to create the sense of curiosity.

Mira nearly shivered in excitement. This was the first time she had turned the android on since designing and programming him; it thrilled her to see that so far he seemed to be working perfectly. Putting on a brilliant smile, she said, "Hello. My name is---"

"Dr. Diamante," the android interrupted her after a split second of searching his immense database.

She laughed, just a bit nervously, and said: "Well, yes, but I would prefer you call me Mirifice. Or even Mira."

The android took a moment to store this bit of information away, before nodding in confirmation. "Mirifice it is."

She smiled, then said: "And what should I call you?"

"Call me?" The android looked at her with confusion in his eyes.

Mira could just imagine his immense mind trying to process and calculate the question, then overheating, smoke pouring off it. She giggled slightly at the mental image, then shook her head and said, "Yes, I can't simply call you NS-5. For one thing, you're the blueprint for a whole line of androids called NS-5. So I can't just call you that. For another thing, a name makes you seem like a living being. And my goal is to make you as lifelike as possible. She smiled slightly, confident that she was well on her way to doing this, then said: "Do you have any preferences as to what I call you?"

The android shook his head. "No. You did not program any preferences into me."

"O-oh," Mira said, a bit sheepishly. That was right. She had programmed the ability to develop likes and dislikes in him, but she had not made any presets or anything of the like. "Well... perhaps I could call you Glacier? Since you're based off the G.L.A.C.I.E.R design."

The android shrugged---Mira could not help but smile proudly to herself at the fluidity of the motion---and replied: "It does not matter to me."

Mira paused, thinking for a few moments. "But, that doesn't really fit you," she mused. "How about... oh! I know! Ghost," she smiled. "Because you're an imitation, a 'ghost' of real life. And also because of something Dr. Lanning's often said---there have always been ghosts in the machine." She smiled a bit wistfully, staring up at the ceiling, before returning her attention to the android and asking, "Well?"

"If you would like," was his simple reply.

"Well then, Ghost," Mira smiled. "would you like to come meet my... well, I'm not sure if I can exactly call them family, since we're not actually blood-related, but... they're the closest thing to a family I have."

Ghost paused---probably calculating the advantages and disadvantages of the situation---then nodded and said, "I believe that could be beneficial."

Mira smiled happily. "Let's go then!"

Ghost rose to his paws with a tiny nod and started towards the door. As he did, one paw accidentally brushed over Mira's.

She flinched.
