Atala is an "Old One," born of the stars over 8,000 years ago. Unknown events caused her to be abandoned on Earth shortly after her birth, and she has since grown up with the planet.
With her years comes incredible knowledge and wisdom, but her memory repeats itself often. Sometimes she will believe a person to be alive that has been dead for many hundreds of years. Often she will forget where she is and remember another time.
She always brings herself back to earth eventually, usually with some help, but the lapses in her memory leave her with an aching sadness that she cannot shake off. She longs to go "home," to where she was born, even though she can't remember how to get there or what it even looks like. She knows Earth is not her home, and as such she feels a sort of contempt for the planet, considering it a burden despite its beauty.
Atala considers the natives of the planet distrustful and primitive, often hiding herself away from civilization and refusing their company. As such, she has little to no friends, simply because she does not wish to make any. Because she has a humanoid form but is not human, Atala does not technically require nor indeed wear Earth clothing. Instead, her thick skin, hair, and tattoos that cover her body "cover" her sufficiently. She does, however, wear the jewelry she has had since her abandonment on Earth, which is made of an alien, durable metal that shines a pale blue.
