McKaila Gabriella "Mickie" Garcia

Born November 29th, 1994 in Hoboken, New Jersey; gamer, cosplayer, "raver", "artist".

After already having three happy, healthy children, Martin Garcia, attorney at law, and his wife Gina, an E.R. nurse decided to go ahead and have another one. Thus, one late November, their fourth child, and second daughter, McKaila was born. From the moment she could walk and talk on her own, it was clear to her brothers and sister that she was the odd one of the family. Rather than go outside and play, she'd prefer to stay inside and watch cartoons. Not just any cartoons, either; these shows were different. The drawing style looked much different from what her siblings were used to, and some of the characters had weird, hard-to-pronounce names. The oldest sibling, Anita, learned from her friends at school that these cartoons were called "anime", and were produced originally in Japan. It wasn't until Mickie (what her brothers had started calling her) was older that she was aware of the difference between anime and American cartoons. Even when she started reaching an age when "cartoons are for kids", she kept watching them. While her parents, Anita and Travis (her oldest brother) didn't seem to mind much, Leon (her other brother) saw it as an opportunity to mercilessly tease and torment his little sister, which he even got his friends to do. It didn't help that Mickie was already unpopular at school, with the exception of her small group of friends. And since her sister was now hardly ever available, being out and about with her friends at the mall, her only comfort was found in running into Travis' room to escape the bullying. He didn't mind at all, especially after his little sister starting showing a great interest in the games he played. For Christmas one year, he not only saved up his paper route money to get her some new games to try out, but also gave her his old Game Boy, all to herself. With Travis' help Mickie grew into an experienced gamer, devoting every amount of allowance she got to a new game. She was thankful to her brother for being so good to her, and showing her a new world through the games.

A few years later, one of Mickie's fellow anime buddies told her about something called an anime convention, where anime fans go to meet up, dress up as their favorite characters, and even participate in contests to win prizes. Eager to attend, Mickie convinced her parents to attend, so long as Travis took her along too. He didn't mind, since the convention was also geared towards video game fans. After convincing her mother to help her get a costume made, Mickie was ready to go. Everywhere she looked, there were anime posters, figurines, video tapes and CDs. Some people had booths set up where they drew their own artwork and made their own accessories to be bought. One nice girl even let her have a free drawing for looking so cute. When the cosplay contest came, Mickie was adored by the crowd for her costume (though it helped that she was still just a ten year old kid). Winning first prize in the youth category for her costume, Mickie was inspired by these events; she promised to one day become one of the "big shots" of the convention halls. She would cosplay as only the coolest characters, push herself to be one of the greatest artists in the Artists' Alley, and attend every rave party thrown after hours. To this day, Mickie has become a sort of "rising star" of the cosplay scene. She tries her hardest to make her own costumes, even though the more elaborate ones are usually bought online. Currently, she's working on earning enough money to have her own artist's booth, even though all she has to her name is a few yaoi doujinshi written and illustrated by herself. No matter what though, she strives for the dream her ten year old self had all those years ago at her first con, and still believes that one day, she'll be one of the greats. She's even roped in her boyfriend, Keagan, even though sometimes it can be a bit much for a beginner like him. She only does what she does because she loves him, though, and he understands that much.
