The Prince of Persia, a wanderer, and "prince" in nickname only, stumbles into a forbidden land - a mythical city of beauty, dominated at its center by a massive Tree of Life. The ancient evil god of darkness, Ahriman, was imprisoned within the tree after a cosmic struggle with his brother, Ormazd. When the Prince arrives, Elika's father, the Mourning King unleashes Ahriman in return for reviving Elika and all of his Corruption is also unleashed upon the self-sustained world. The Prince takes up arms against the corruption in an attempt to redeem himself and take back his actions by driving the corruption away.
The Prince is depicted as a thief, clad in rags of orange and blue color scheme. He is considered as a normal person, not a noble prince. He is an extremely agile and cunning warrior, proving to be an able swordsman. He wields a long sword and a mysterious gauntlet on his left hand, which enables him to run across and jump from walls. To guide him are the powers of his partner, Elika, to help him in his quest to stop Ahriman.
The Prince is an adventurer, a drifter wandering from adventure to adventure with no real ties, always living in the present. To him, the past is gone and he carries no burdens, the future is yet to come and it will take care of itself. All that matters now is the thrill of the moment, the next heartbeat, the next corner, jump and sensation.
Like all epic heroes, what the Prince wears says a lot about who he is and what he has been through. He has elements of luxury in his dress – the orange and blue cloth that he uses as a turban and scarf that would be available only to those with money – however he is also perfectly capable of putting functionality before style by wearing plain leather leggings to help protect his legs rather than dazzle the eye.
He believes people cannot be trusted and that living in the past is ignorant. His "live for today" attitude allows him to perform death defying stunts without fear. Through dialogue with Elika, the Prince reveals that when he was a child, his parents went to the aid of another kingdom, leaving him in the care of relatives. They promised that they would retrieve him one day, but never did, and he presumes they died. He describes their act as "fighting someone else's battle", which he thinks is a waste of time.
The Prince's partner in his travels is the princess of a small state, named Elika. She is initially closed off and defensive around the Prince, not revealing anything about herself unless absolutely necessary. However, she gradually begins to reveal more about her past and the current situation as her trust in him builds throughout their journey. Elika's personality becomes friendlier as the game progresses and she states that she is beginning to like the Prince more and more and would be greatly saddened to lose him.
Nearing the end of their journey, the Prince seems to be attracted to and genuinely caring for Elika.
The primary weapon of the Prince, this long, Arabian sword proves to be of great asset to him during his journey to stop Ahriman's corruption. Despite its long length and heavy weight, the Prince is able to wield it with only one hand. Although not as versatile or quick as Elika's magic, it often proves as the main driving force behind the duo, striking heavy blows to even the largest enemies. This is especially helpful for when the corrupted beings are too strong for Elika's magic, or when getting close range isn't enough. It is with this blade that the Prince can combine strength with magic, dealing devastating blows and turning Elika and him into an unstoppable team.
The second weapon in the Prince's arsenal is a gauntlet that is affixed to his left hand. This gauntlet proves useful to the Prince, as he uses it to scale from high cliff walls, as well as using it in fighting. When close range combat is needed, he will grab the enemy and toss it up, allowing Elika a chance to strike.
