Amour’s bare feet smacked loudly against the wet sand of Veta Lake as she ran down the shore. Her right hand was reaching out, grasping towards a silvery blue butterfly, and her left arm was pumping at her side. She let out a giggle as she made a leap for the butterfly which was climbing further and further out of her grasp. Because she was looking straight up at the sky Amy failed to notice the boy kneeling down in the shallow water and ran into him full force.
Letting out a cry of surprise, she flew over him, did a somersault, and landed facedown in the sand. Once she regained her wits, she sat up, dusted the sand off her face and chest and looked around for the trip hazard. Her eyes fixed upon the boy laying on his back in the sand next to her. Amy crawled over to him, surveying him as she did so. He had medium-length dark brown hair, a myriad of freckles dotting his cheeks and was wearing a green plaid shirt with a pair of beige cargo shorts and worn out tennis shoes.
As she leaned over him, lowering her face closer to his to inspect his freckles the boy’s eyes snapped open. Amy was caught off guard by the sudden action and the pretty teal color of his irises. “I’m so sorry!†she blurted out. “I wasn’t looking where I was going and I didn’t see you and I should’ve been paying more attent--â€â€œIt’s okay,†the boy interrupted with a smile. “No damage done, just a little bit of sand on my shirt but I’m used to that. My name’s Davy by the way.â€
“I’m Amour but you can call me Amy.â€
“Such a pretty name...†Davy replied. “And gorgeous hair too.†Amy couldn’t help but blush a little. She was used to boys giving her compliments, but she never fancied any of them. Something was different this time; this time she really wanted this boy to like her.
