Personality: A quiet, contemplative being. Hizaki is known to hang back and let his more boisterous twin brother socialize for the two of them. He is careful and observant, often noticing people or things that his brother overlooks. He is the caution to his brother's haste, the logic to his passion, and the calm to his storm. Hizaki is a peaceful, nonconfrontational automaton that would much rather be painting in his studio or traveling with his brother than attending social gatherings or doing the bidding of his creators. Being of below-average strength, even in comparison to natural-born beings, he is not much help around the smithery in which he and his brother live, so he attempts to contribute by selling his paintings or cleaning. He does not like the feeling of being indebted, as it might limit his hard-fought freedom, so he is eager to pay off any favors as quickly as possible.

He is not fond of his creators, who treated him and his brother as property. He far prefers blending in with the living populace, and living with a family of organic people who accept him and his brother exactly as they are. His attachment to them originally stemmed from his desire to repay a debt, but he quickly latched onto the concept of family, and they became nearly as dear to him as his brother. He is fiercely loyal to those important to him, and would trade his existence for theirs if the choice had to be made. He has crafted for himself a gentle and creative soul, but he is more than capable of making tough decisions and causing harm only should he deem it necessary.

Appearance: Crafted from the same blueprints and nearly identical to his brother Kazuki, Hizaki takes on a tamer appearance. He has left his hair as it was created, lazy waves brushed to the side. His false skin is pale and indiscernible from living flesh, though it conceals his thin metal bones and inner clockwork. He is always well-dressed and well-kept, meticulously clean even in his painting attire and apron. He tends to wear clothes crafted of relatively thick leather, to keep his fragile frame protected from potential damage, though other automata and certain strong humanoid species are still able to cause harm. He tends to wear colors that complement his bronze hair and golden eyes. He doesn't enjoy wearing colors that would make him stand out.

*Automata are artificial life forms crafted by what remains of the human race, hidden away beneath the ground in the land of the Mists. In order to survive a world they destroyed long ago, humans merged with other living creatures, giving rise to multiple hybrid, humanoid races. These races take on traits from their more bestial roots, such as avian-hybrids containing hollow bones or dragon-hybrids possessing great strength. Automata are created by the remaining "pureblood" humans to walk the surface they cannot and do their bidding, which often puts them at odds with the rest of the planet's inhabitants.

*Manmade individuals are those created from pureblood humans, who are generally the only race with access to the technology to create them. This technology is forbidden above the surface, as it is part of the reason the species had to merge in order to survive. Aside from automata being created, there are two different ways for living creatures to be created - through the union of two living creatures, creating the Natalborn, and through the will of the planet herself, creating the Earthborn.

Many automata are built to track down and capture Earthborns, so the pureblood human scientists can try to find a way for themselves to live above the surface. Therefore, automata are seen as enemies by most living creature. A tiny fraction of Earthborns are the most sought after - they are known as Keepers and exist in order to maintain the balance of a specific element or aspect of life. Humans desperately want them, particularly the Keeper of Ages (who keeps time in check) and the Keeper of Souls (who maintains the balance between the living and the dead.)
