The Keeper. Aerod's age is unknown--some believe he is merely a legend, and others have said that he is an ancient god, as old as the planet, and was borne from the same fiery matter that makes up the Earth's core and magma. He is powerful, wise, and possesses knowledge of elemental magic, but like many magical creatures, he does not share his clandestine wisdom willingly. Aerod's only pupil, at least in all of human history, is Marianne, a human who can morph into a black wraith in the shape of a giant bird. She has long twin scars down both shoulder blades, but she has never seen these, because she has never used a mirror. Marianne is trapped in a deal with Aerod--she will learn all of his powerful magic, in exchange, she is never allowed to leave Aerod's lair during the day. She may only travel by night as a bird. It is said that Aerod does this to protect Marianne from a dark destiny. Aerod's shadow envelops entire castles and his fiery breath has often been mistaken for volcanic eruptions, wildfires, and scorching summer temperatures.
