"Really Emily," the countess blustered, startling the puppy dozing under the table by setting her tea cup down with a clatter, "it simply will not do to have you hogging all the scones like that. At this table we share what cook serves us. Isn't that right Mr. Tode? Mister Tode!"

Countess Téa stood up angrily and clopped over to Mr. Tode's seat, careful to keep her small feet wedged inside her mother's pink heels. Pulling her over-sized gloves past her elbows she straightened the stuffed frog from his slumped position in the chair.
"How many times have I told you not to slouch Mr. Tode? What will the Duke of Bun think of such behavior?"

The Duke of Bun sat silently behind a small plate of sugar cookies, bowler hat perched fastidiously between his floppy plush ears.
"Quite right Duke," Countess Téa agreed, returning to her place at the head of the table. She scooped the squirming puppy from the ground and plopped him in her lap. "Better that we don't speak to guests with improper manners. This is high tea after all."

The countess' begloved fingers fumbled around the handle of the teapot and she tipped the vessel into her cup.
A single golden drop slipped from the spout.

Her lip shot out and her eyebrows knitted together as she aimed her voice towards the kitchen.
"Mooommyyyy! I need more juice!"
The sing-song voice of a grown-up called back, "You need more juice what?"

Téa reddened. Emily, Mr. Tode and the Duke of Bun contemplated her with shiny glass eyes.
"I need more juice...please."

The Countess leaned over and whispered conspiratorally in Emily's ear, "See what I mean Emily? Manners are very important. Especially during high tea!"
