Silence is the sole substance of the air around them; needing not a word to operate, Nina Sneak and Deprived Will are perfectly in tune with each other. She, the Ranger, and he, the Mesmer, create a flawless working unit of adept skill and expertise, bent on taking down the man who they have followed, all the way here, so far away, to this empty land. Don J Durandal, he calls himself, but to Nina and Will, he is prey.

The pair have put up with him for much too long, entirely too long, and now it's time to make him disappear. But it's not that easy; Don J is not simple prey.

He is Mesmer, too - a Mursaat, One Unseen, a Bringer of Wisdom, an Eye That Watches All; he can hide away from those without True Sight, and cast Spectral Agony, which is terrible woe to the unfortunate unprotected.

Luckily, our heroes have been Infused, rendering them almost immune to the devastating effects of the Mursaat's greatest weapon.

Yet that does not make them wholly impervious; they still are under great danger, taking on a foe such as this.

It has taken them longer to track him down than any other mission before; long days and long nights of painstaking effort to determine their opponent's next move, to manipulate their opponent's power, to mess with his head and to cast spells succeedingly and to create mass illusions and to help other allies and to confuse other foes, to drain the enemy's resources and to subvert the enemy's Energy - all this they have done and more.

They fall into a pattern, Nina and Will, with Will taking care of all manipulation - as befits his abilities as a Mesmer - while Nina puts her own Ranger skills to work.

She and her Flamingo pet Willy know how to read the land, how to take care of it and nurture answers. This makes tracking an easier task, bringing them ever closer to Don J Durandal and the end of their task.

It is Nina who finally finds him, and it is Nina who comes up with their ultimate plan, but it is the team of the two of them who spring into action, not a single word needed, just complete trust and ability.

Spells ring out, the battle ensues, and Nina and Will are a blur, in sync and in harmony, yet completely independent.

They are both strong, and they are both capable, but their true strength resides in their ability to always anticipate the other and to act as one unit.

Yet, in the end, it is Nina who finishes it, as it was with Nina where it began.

She delivers the final glancing blow, and she and Will step back together. It is done.

They fade back into silence.
