Ordinemon's Guide to the Omniverse
The Dreamlands
The Dreamlands is the nexus of the omniverse. While there are many alternate universes in the omniverse, there is only one Dreamlands, shared by and connecting all the universes. Most beings can only reach the Dreamlands in their dreams, but a few (primarily tesseracts) have the power to come and go at will. Some other beings make their home exclusively in the Dreamlands and do not exist in any physical universe.
Notable Inhabitants
✷ Nyarlathotep is a tesseract chaos deity, messenger of the eldritch gods and son of Azathoth, who is one of seven tesseracts who were the first beings created by the God El. Nyarlathotep moves throughout and outside the omniverse as he pleases, but he has taken up residence in a palace of black glass in Kadath, at the north pole of the Dreamlands.
✷ Hastur, called "The King in Yellow," is a tesseract, the cousin and high priest of Nyarlathotep. He divides his time between his own kingdom of Carcosa and the temple to Nyarlathotep in the Dreamlands, located in a place called Sarkomand on the Plateau of Leng, in the north near Kadath.
✷ Rubel is a sentient flower native to the Dreamlands, who was brought to the Sarkomand temple as an offering to Nyarlathotep. She now resides in a sunroom in his palace; this room is the one warm spot in Kadath, and Nyarlathotep swears that it's just a coincidence that he constructed it shortly after Rubel's arrival.
✷ Randolph Carter is a human man who dared to defy Nyarlathotep - and outsmarted him. (Nyarlathotep continues to sulk to this day.) Carter has learned how to travel among the universes at will but now spends most of his time in the Dreamlands. He is a dear friend of Kuranes, the King of Serannian.
✷ Luke and Jan Valentine are vampire brothers who were killed in a physical universe but somehow found themselves spending the afterlife in a bizarre, cartoonish place of which they are the only inhabitants. The area is somehow connected to the Dreamlands (possibly a pocket dimension of it), and the brothers can enter the Dreamlands for short periods of time. However, they are unable to remain outside their world for long, finding themselves popped back into their own personal afterlife when their time's up.
✷ Louder is a sentient little storm cloud whose goal in life is to be louder than anycloud else!
✷ Helium is a fruit tree growing in the dream country of Ooth-Nargai. Created by Kuranes, helium fruit feeds the numerous balloons of the Dreamlands, and brings other dreamers who eat it a poignant feeling of nostalgia.
Serannian
Serannian is an idyllic city in the Dreamlands located on a island floating in the sky above the Cerenarian Sea. It is one of two cities dreamed into existence by Kuranes, a human who gave up his life in a physical universe to dwell exclusively in the Dreamlands. Serannian was the site of a great battle with Nyarlathotep, who resented Kuranes's abilities as a dreamer and the happiness of Serannian's citizens. Nyarlathotep succeeded in razing Serannian, but the small group of beings who opposed him called upon all the dreamers in the omniverse for aid. They dreamed Serannian back into existence, leading Nyarlathotep to realize that his cause was hopeless and to retreat. Many sentient airships and balloons live in Serannian, and it is where the souls of balloons go when they pop.
Notable Inhabitants
✷ Kuranes is the creator and king of Serannian who divides his time between it and Celephaïs, the other city he created.
✷ Emily is the first being ever to exist in the omniverse, one of the original seven tesseracts created by El. She opposed Nyarlathotep in the Dream War and gathered the Just Balloons, the group of beings who fought him and ultimately caused Serannian to be recreated. Emily is friends with Kuranes and remains in Serannian, although she keeps a close eye on Nyarlathotep.
✷ Poof the Drifblim is a key figure in Serannian's lore. A balloon Pokémon, he was brought to the Dreamlands by Emily to oppose Nyarlathotep, and Poof led the Just Balloons in their fight against him. Poof was responsible for calling upon the dreamers of the omniverse to restore Serannian. He now lives in the dream city and helps to protect it alongside his friends.
✷ Prospekt is a Drifloon whom Emily also brought to the Dreamlands, along with his Drifblim friend Bart. Prospekt is one of the Just Balloons and helped in the battle against Nyarlathotep. He and Bart remained in Serannian after the Dream War and are among the city's guardians.
✷ Kyzer the Blimpmon is a Digimon and another member of the Just Balloons; Emily brought him to Serannian from the Digital World via the Dark Ocean. Kyzer now helps guard Serannian, patrolling the perimeter of the flying island with his best friend Aerostat.
✷ Aerostat is a barrage balloon from the waking world, who was part of the barrage guarding London during World War 2. After he was destroyed in a storm, he awakened to the afterlife in Serannian, where he still suffers from PTSD from his wartime experiences. Kyzer has befriended him, and they spend most of their time together.
✷ Popped is another balloon who is spending his afterlife in Serannian after popping in one of the physical universes. Rather than a city guardian, he's an ordinary citizen.
The Digital World
Various iterations of the Digital World exist paralleling some of the omniverse's physical worlds. They are primarily inhabited by data-based creatures known as Digital Monsters, or Digimon, who are also capable of manifesting in the physical omniverse under certain circumstances.
Notable Inhabitants
✷ Sabra the Togemon is a cactus-like boxer wandering the Digital World in search of opponents and adventure.
✷ Ordinemon and Kyzer the Blimpmon also originated from the Digital World.
Nonexistence
The space between the universes, sometimes called "Nonexistence" or "todash space," is inhabited by monsters and other bizarre entities. It is freely traversable by tesseracts, but most beings can only find their way there by accident and can easily be lost there forever. Throughout the physical universes are "thin spots" or "thinnies" where the universes' barriers are weak, and their inhabitants may be able to cross into another universe or into Nonexistence.
Notable Inhabitants
✷ Tak is an eldritch entity who dwells in Nonexistence, possibly but not necessarily a tesseract. He cannot take a physical form, but he has tried multiple times to exist in the physical universes by using other organisms as host bodies. He has been unsuccessful thus far and is currently trapped between alternate physical universes.
✷ Jowday is the embodiment of a formless "extreme negative force" from Outside, beyond even Azathoth. A combination of the Trinity Test and the casting of an occult ritual called the Babalon Working forced her to dream herself into a universe where she assimilated an approximation of a physical form. Jowday usually takes refuge in Nonexistence and is able to move between it and some universes, but she is in essence a prisoner, unable to awaken and return to her home Outside. She has the ability to manipulate time and space, and she can move other beings to locations and points of her choosing in the past and future, as well to draw them into Nonexistence.
The Dark Ocean
The Dark Ocean is the primordial sea from which all realities and universes emerge. It lies at the bottom of Nonexistence but also extends into the physical omniverse and the Digital World.
Notable Inhabitants
✷ Ordinemon was reborn from the Dark Ocean after she was slain, from remnants of her data that were washed away and eventually reassembled themselves.
✷ Ysthli is an eldritch entity who takes the physical form of a massive blue oyster with a tri-lobed eyeball as her "pearl." She is worshipped by a cult of decapids (anthropomorphic squid) on the ocean planet of Moana orbiting the star Rigel.
Outside
Outside the omniverse is the vast expanse that lies beyond the physical universes and the Dreamlands. It is where Azathoth dwells with his court, and is also the home of some other races of entities who lack a physical form as we in the omniverse know it.
Notable Inhabitants
✷ EASY is a tesseract who, upon orders from Nyarlathotep, rescues beings who are near death in various universes and points in time, then places them in other universes where they gain supernatural powers and are known as Ends. EASY lives and works in a dark hallway lined with doors, each leading to another universe. Also by command of Nyarlathotep, she has taken a humanoid form.
✷ Murasaki, also a tesseract in humanoid form, is EASY's rival and another employee of Nyarlathotep. The beings he gathers are called Drifters, and Murasaki and EASY pit the Drifters and Ends against one another like living chess pieces - all for the amusement of Nyarlathotep.
✷ S'ngac is, to the perception of those from the physical omniverse, a violet-colored cloud who has devoted her long existence to study and learning. She is fascinated by physical beings and is friends with Kuranes and Randolph Carter. She has aided in their struggles against Nyarlathotep.
Notable Inhabitants of Physical Universes
✷ Sparky the Bob-omb exists in multiple Super Mario universes. This particular version of him lives in a self-contained universe known as the Castle Plexus, controlled by a mysterious entity who has caught all the Plexus's inhabitants in a time loop for unknown reasons. Sparky is just an ordinary little Bob-omb with no special abilities, but he's managed to break free of the time loop to a degree through his unselfish actions.
✷ Rip Van Winkle is from the same universe as the Valentine Brothers and was Luke's best friend before his death and relocation to the Dreamlands. She was killed by the vampire Alucard and became one of his familiars until they were all lost in battle. EASY saved Rip from destruction, and Rip agreed to join the Ends in another world, with the ulterior motive of finding a way back to her own universe to seek vengeance. She will ultimately reunite with Luke.
✷ Celeste and Evion are Drifloons living in the physical universe from which Poof and Prospekt originated.
✷ Balloon is a Nostalgic Dillema living in Subeta.
