The Duke of Claymore

The Duke was born a very long time ago. When he was 6 weeks old he was adopted by a young couple on a tiny farm about to have their first baby. Only a couple of weeks later the child was born and Duke was entranced. Even still as a pup he protected her and looked after her, never leaving her side.

A couple of years passed, and he made sure to keep her safe. One day, she was wandering towards the highway, very determined. Duke tried to stop her but she kept going. Then he did a classic Lassie move, grabbed her nappy/diaper and pulled, making her fall on her bottom and start crying. He then raced to the house, jumped through the flyscreen door, and grabbed mothers skirt to pull her to the door. The child was safe. The door never quite recovered.

As the child grew older, they both would venture around the farm and outside to the wild area. Not too far, but far enough for adventures, play, and the wrecking of clothing on trees and rocks. Duke was a loyal, good boy. He'd sometimes help father out when they had a small amount of stock, but usually made sure of where the child was at all times. Mother would often find them snuggled together, sleeping.
