The room was dark. On the ceiling hung an old-looking chandelier. Only one bulb remained working. The table the five men were sitting at looked just as filthy as the rest of the room.
"Fold," a scrawny looking man with a rat-like face suddenly said.
Another, quite muscular man sighed and also threw his cars down. He grimly looked at the pile of cash in the middle of the table before he looked at the three remaining gamblers.
The biggest guy sitting there was named "Boss". He seemed cool, although you could not quite see his face since he was wearing dark sunglasses. The two other men didn't wear sunglasses. The older looking male had a disheveled appearance. He had a three-day beard and bloodshot eyes. He probably needed the money for drugs.
The last man didn't match the other people in the room at all. He had a neat and tidy appearance. His watchful eyes followed the two remaining players and a tiny smile spread across his face.
"Alright, let's take a look at the cards," Boss said.
Drug-guy threw his cards onto the table.
"Well... Nothing. Seems like you need to try your luck again." Boss chuckled then threw his own cards on the table.
"Straight Flush, he announced grinning. "Looks like I won."
He started to reach for the pile of money on the table when the last person interrupted him.
"Not so fast." He carefully displaying his cards so all people in the room could see them.
Boss' mouth dropped open. The other three stared at the hand in disbelief.
"Royal Flush," he announced grinning. "Seems like the money is mine."
He collected his money and turned to go, leaving the speechless males behind him.
"That was so much fun. Hopefully we'll be able to repeat this sometime in the future." He chuckled as he left the room. The other gamblers continued to stare after him in disbelief.
Boss also watched him go. Suddenly something on the ground caught his eye. A piece of paper lay on the ground. He picked it up. There was a single word written on it:
"Checkmate!"
