Her parents lived near a small mining town in the mountains. When she was very little, miners from the town trapped her and took her away from her family so they could use her to pull mine-carts through the tunnels in the mountains. She pulled these carts of heavy coal for many years. Her once white coat turned gray... then black. No amount of washing could remove the soot from her fur. She was treated as a slave, and she was starved and beaten whenever she tried to escape or made a mistake. Then one night, she had enough... a man came at her with a whip in his hand when she stumbled and accidentally spilled some of the coal from her cart. She snarled at him and lunged, her teeth sinking into his neck. Other men came to stop her, but she fought back, killing one after another in her rage. She couldn't hear their desperate shouts or dying screams. The other cart pullers watched silently until not one man was left standing. They avoided their former companion... they were frightened of her. Knowing she could never return to her family after the atrocity she committed, Emesis left the mountains and journeyed on her own. She walked until she was exhausted and collapsed in front of an old wooden cabin which was being rented by a kind-hearted man. He brought her inside and help her get well, although she remained hostile and snapped at him whenever he came too close. When she had regained her strength, she left the cottage to continue on her own... but she had nowhere to go. Feeling lost and with no destination in mind, she returned to the cabin. Now she roams the forest and occasionally follows the human that helped her. She can't bring herself to trust any humans, but she feels connected to the man that saved her life.Emesis' real name is a mystery. She disowned it after she killed the miners. She took the name Emesis because the thought of what she had done makes her want to throw-up. She often has a hard time sleeping, and she refuses to be caught off guard. Guilt and shame plague her, but she won't surrender to these feelings. She will continue to struggle and fight so long as she had breath in her body. --Her whole body felt heavy with fatigue. She opened her eyes and slowly raised her head. A dull pain had settled in the pit of her empty stomach. The first thing she noticed was she wasn't outside anymore. Her green eyes widened with this realization. She tried to rise to her feet, but she was too weak to move so quickly. Her head spun and her vision blurred. Where was she...?"Take it easy," a calm voice said. Her gaze snapped in the direction of the voice... Her fur bristled and she barred her fangs at the creature standing in the room with her. He was the same kind of creature that had taken her away from her family, forced her to pull heavy carts, and beat her when she made a mistake. It was a despicable human..."Don't come near me," she growled. The man was holding something in his hands. It wasn't a whip, but she still didn't want him to come too close. Then she smelled something that made her mouth water and her stomach grumble. Was the smell coming from the lidded bowl the man was carrying? "I thought you might be hungry," the man explained, taking a careful step towards her. He paused when he noticed her tensing up. "Is it ok if I come closer? I just want to give you something to eat."She studied him warily. He didn't appear to be afraid of her, but he also didn't look very threatening. His shoulders slumped in a relax manner and he was looking at her with a kind expression. "Ok..." she said. "You better not touch me... I will bite you if you try it.""That seems fair," he told her as he walked over to where she lay. He placed the bowl down beside the bed of blankets and removed the lid. She stared at the stew, longing to eat it. Her eyes flicked back to the man who moved away in order to give her space. With him keeping his distance, she propped herself up and hungrily devoured the helping of beef stew. When she had finished, she settled back down and rested her head on her front paws. The man returned to collect the bowl, but his hand came too close to her face. She snapped at him, her sharp teeth nearly missing his fingers. He recoiled in surprise."Don't touch me!" she shouted, backing herself up against the wall. "Don't come near me! I don't trust you, so just stay away!""Shh... shh... it's ok..." the man said. "It's alright. Look. I'm not going to hurt you." He edged a bit closer and slowly extended his hand towards the bowl. She watched him intently until he grabbed the empty dish and stepped back. "Are you still hungry?""No," she muttered. It was a lie, but she didn't want this human coming near her again. "Let me know when you're hungry and I'll find you something to eat, alright?" he said, offering her a smile. "I'll be in the kitchen.""What are you planning to do to me?" she asked before he could leave. She wanted to know now rather than later so she could mentally prepare herself..."Well... first I plan to make you better," he replied. "Once you're feeling well again, you can return to the outside.""You aren't going to make me into your pet...?" she asked; her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "Or force me to work for you...?""No," he answered. "I won't force you to do anything. I promise." The cheap words of a weak-minded human meant nothing to her. She clenched her teeth as she slowly laid back down and rested her head on the pillow. If she wasn't careful, this man would put her in chains. Humans couldn't be trusted.
