Mie was born with horns, same as any Popoko, though they were green and strangely soft. As she grew, her horns grew and eventually became strawberries, much larger than regular ones. Once every summer, when they're as large as they can be, they fall off, and slowly regrow for the following summer.

As Mie was picking strawberries in the field one morning, she felt an odd bristle against her head. It continued, becoming more and more frequent, until she heard a small, timid squeak. A large strawberry - larger than any she had ever grown upon her head before - toppled down into her basket. It blinked... it blinked?

The strawberry had large, dark eyes, squinting against the sun. It had tiny arms and legs, and what appeared to be little rabbit ears. It apparently had a nose too, as it sneezed at the bright light.

Mie took the strange little creature back to her village. She was inundated with requests to grow more, but she couldn't. She didn't know how, and didn't really want to.
He was hers, and hers alone.
