A funny word, really. According to the Oxford Dictionary, femininity means "qualities or attributes regarded as characteristic of women." It has connotations now of frilly stuff; pink and sparkles and sugary sweetness. But some women are adamantly opposed to being seen this way. They reject the conformity of their assigned gender role, and along with it throw the flowery softness of the feminine into the trash.

That's their right to do. No one should be forced to endure the shackles of a role they never chose to play, but were instead assigned to by a society that only cares when one steps out of their lane.

And I fully support them in doing so!

But personally, I can't help but love the femme. Pink flowers, flowy dresses, all the things associated with the stereotypical 'female' role. But when I see a butterfly flitting about, it brings a smile to my face, and I love pastels and fluffy kittens and sometimes, a nice bubble bath with scented candles all around.

And sometimes I also like superhero stories, murder mysteries, and playing videogames--things that are traditionally considered more masculine. I was bullied in school for it, in fact. Back then, I was told that I wasn't 'girly' enough. Now it seems the world finds me TOO 'girly'! But I never stopped enjoying these things, or playing in the mud, or anything else I did. Because I may be feminine in some aspects, but the word doesn't totally define me. It's just a part of me. And I hope that you fully enjoy all the parts of you, whether or not you have a feminine side, and regardless of your gender.

It's okay to reject the role forced on you; just remember it's okay to resemble it sometimes too, as long as that's what you want for yourself. So wear a skirt or play a sport and maybe, if you like, do both! Because in the end, you're more than a label or adjective. You are a person! And who said these things had to be defined by gender anyway?
