Video Killed the Radio Star

The 80's: Ten years of excess, wealth, and indulgence

That's how most of the world looks back on that bygone decade, but to someone like B00m-B0x, it was an era of fond memories and unmatched glamour. The wildest parties and the loudest music. Sure, a lot of money was spent and a lot more of it was done recklessly, but it was hard to argue against that from B00m-B0x's position. He was a party machine, built out of extravagance to make sure any celebration or random gathering of partygoers turn their enjoyment to the absolute maximum!

If the 80's were a drink, it would be a Neopolitan, especially when it came to the music. With hip hop and rap surging up out of nowhere to join the powerhouses of rock and metal. There were the chart topping hits of pop music, amidst the futuristic sounds of techno, and laced cautiously with everything in between. No party was ever the same, and B00m-B0x knew that better than anyone else, having been present for the vast majority of them. Ear-rocking decibel would echo through crowds of numerous dozens, packing every venue that B00m-B0x had been rented to attend.

B00m-B0x was a valuable piece of hardware, having brought in a fortune over his prime. Today, as his fame slowly dwindled away into history, he still had what he needed to carry on, but the world was beginning to leave without him. Time and technology were moving forward, cell phones were getting smaller, and TV's were getting bigger. The graphical user interface revolutionized computers and the internet they would eventually be linked to. Society was becoming more visual, and words and sounds weren't having the effect that they were years ago.

Enter, Br40d-C45t. This machine was designed to be the next generation, and fundamentally a replacement for B00m-B0x. Along with all the music playing capabilities of B00m-B0x, Br04d-C45t had the added functionality of playing videos, an ever-popular feature with the rising popularity of music television. With Br04d-C45t on the scene, it would be hard for B00m-B0x to get back to where he'd been, all those years ago. But it wouldn't be for a lack of trying.

As the party machine roams, hoping to cash in on the retro glory of the impact he'd made in that decade, he looks to the library of classics that have remained timeless and stuck within the minds of the people. He had too much spirit to allow himself to fade, even if he was renting himself out at a fraction of the price of his new generation competitor. It wasn't about the money, it was about the glory, and nothing was going to keep him from having just one more moment in the spotlight.

In the words of the Beastie Boys, who shouted with conviction:

'You gotta fight!
For your right!
To paaaaartyyyyy!'
