Kids were laughing in my classes

My first real memory of listening to an Imagine Dragons song was when watching a World of Warcraft machinima video that had been made to accompany the song Demons. I had actually heard Radioactive on the radio for at least a few months prior to that but I had never really associated it with the band, despite liking the song a lot. But seeing that WoW machinima video that starred a worgen character, dealing with being a monster according to many, just hit home more for me. Since then I’ve been a big fan of theirs. It’s rare for me to find albums where there isn’t a single song that I don’t really like. But straight away after listening to their first album, Night Visions, I was pleasantly surprised that I liked all the songs. It is still, by far, my favorite album that I’ve ever owned.
As I was making the playlist for this profile I made a list of all the songs that I really love by them and the fact that out of the 58 songs they’ve released I wrote down 32 as ones that I love says a lot about my love for this band, and their sound.
And the fact that Dan Reynolds has been so outspoken about the band’s support of LGBTQ+ has only made me love them even more, on a whole different level.

While I was scheming for the masses

Because I love so many of their songs it wasn’t the easiest to decide which ones are top ten for me, but after listening to them again I’m pretty confident that I’ve ranked them accordingly. But before I get to ranking my top ten songs by them I’d like to go through the honorable mentions. These are all songs that I love to different amounts, depending on how I feel on any given day. Without further ado these are the songs that I love but that didn’t make the top ten: On Top of the World, Underdog, Working Man, Shots, I Bet My Life, Friction, Trouble, Thief, The Unknown, Release, Battle Cry, Who We Are, Whatever It Takes, I Don’t Know Why, Yesterday, Mouth of the River, Natural, Bad Liar, West Coast, Zero, Only, Lonely, Wrecked, Monday, #1, Easy Come Easy Go, It's Ok, Follow You, Cutthroat, No Time For Toxic People, One Day, Bones, Sharks, Symphony, I Don't Like Myself, Blur, Waves, Peace of Mind, Sirens, Younger, I Wish and Birds.
I told you that there were a lot of songs on my list. All of them are on there for different reasons, but for the most part I love Imagine Dragons' songs because of the lyrics and/or the sound of a particular song. It can be because of a single hook in the music that I love, or the song as a whole.

Who do you think you are?

Now for the top ten songs. At number ten I have Radioactive. It’s a great song that I know pretty much by heart. I love the lyrics and the sound of the song. To be perfectly honest with you the part that I love the most about it is the breath part in the first verse.
Next on the list is Cha-Ching. I love the chorus more than anything else in this song. Everything about the chorus resonates with me. But especially the falsetto singing Dan does in it.
Eighth on the list is I’m So Sorry. I love the heavy beat of this song more than anything, but the lyrics and catchy chorus also play a big part in why this song made the top ten for me.
Time for seventh place. And it goes to the song Warriors. My love for it has nothing to do with the game League of Legends as I’ve never played it and it’s the kind of game that I don’t enjoy. Now, the song though. The song I love. And this time it’s very much because of the lyrics. The fact that I love playing WoW might have led to me being partial to songs like this, that are about people fighting for what they believe in and for what they love.
In sixth place we have the song Rise Up. Another strong chorus song for me, although the rest of it is really good too. And it’s definitely got that special Imagine Dragons sound that I really like.

Dreaming ‘bout being a big star

Okay, we’ve reached the top five songs. And in fifth place for me is Walking the Wire. This one just has an overall sound that resonates with me. It has such a relaxed sound as well as nice lyrics.
In fourth place I have Monster. For me this one has really nice and touching lyrics. As well as a chorus that really hits home for me.
Third place on my list goes to the song Believer. Another one with a heavy beat that I love. But it also has great lyrics and a great overall sound. And as a Swedish person I have to say that seeing Dolph Lundgren in the music video of this song was pretty special.
Wow, we’re already at the top two spots? That went quick, didn’t it? Anyway, in second place for me we have the song that left the first lasting impression with me. Demons. And here we’re talking all lyrics. Well, lyrics and the way that Dan Reynolds delivers those lyrics. I love the lyrics as a whole, but I have to say that the chorus is extra precious to me.
And then there was one. And, in first place to me is a song that I can have on repeat all day long without getting the least bit tired of it. And that’s Thunder. The whole song is amazing. I love the lyrics, the music but more than anything I love the drums in the chorus. Pretty much every time I listen to it I drum on my legs when the chorus comes on. And I love singing along with the repeating of thunder in the chorus.

They say, “You’re basic”, They say, “You’re easy”

This is a band that has a permanent place in my heart. To me they can’t do anything wrong, musically. And to be honest with you, even if they did something outside of music that people wouldn’t agree with I would still love them. Because I couldn’t care less about anything other than their music. I hope that they’ll be around for a long time and grace us with many more glorious albums with amazing songs on them. I know I’ll be waiting and hoping every year to see if they’re releasing anything new ♥️

You’re always riding in the backseat
