Life Excerpt

He surprised even himself sometimes. He'd never been one to believe in abstinence, he was pretty sure that no one in the Twisters did, but ever since he'd fallen for Sebille he was more than happy to wait for her. Being the Christian that she was she didn't believe in sex before marriage, which meant he wasn't gonna get any, not anytime soon anyway. And there he went again, he thought as he smirked, surprising himself with thoughts of marriage. He'd never thought of himself as the marrying kind, and yet here he was practically planning their wedding?

-"They say people do crazy things when they're in love, and apparently that's true." He smiled to himself. He was grateful that Storm had given him guard duty today because it gave him time to think. Without interruptions. And he definitely needed to think. He let out a heavy sigh, dripping with sadness.

-"But how could I ever marry her or even consider doing it? She's a Sky-Walker and I'm a Twister. We're sworn enemies..." He'd been aware from the beginning of the stupidity of getting involved with her but when you fall you fall. And boy had he fallen, and fallen hard. Not a minute went by without a thought of her crossing his mind, or the desire of just holding her in a loving embrace filled his entire body. He knew it was cliche but he loved everything about her. Like her beautiful smile. And the way she blushed whenever he kissed her out of the blue, or told her how beautiful and absolutely perfect she was. As these thoughts were running through his mind he suddenly noticed smoke rising from the village where Sebille lived. His heart stopped. And then he was off at a breakneck speed, running towards the village as fast as his legs would go.

-"I'm such an idiot." He cursed under his breath. "I should have known that this was why Storm changed the guard schedule. He wanted me out of the way when they attacked." Thoughts of killing Storm crossed his mind, but he pushed them away so that he could focus on Sebille. He hoped against all hope that she would be okay. And he would kill anyone who dared lay a hand on her.


When he reached the village he made a b-line straight for the church. If she wasn't where the fighting was, then he knew that that would be where she was. Reaching the church he flung the doors open in his hurry, surprising and scaring the two individuals inside. As his eyes settled on Sebille he could feel a great weight being lifted from his shoulders. She was safe. He started to run towards her but was cut off by her friend, Senona.

-"Stay away, Twister filth!" She yelled at him. He stopped dead in his tracks. And then Sebille laid a hand on her friend's shoulder.

-"Senona, please don't hurt him." Her voice was full of concern, which made Jarod feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Senona looked confused as she reluctantly turned to face her friend. Sebille was pleading with her eyes. "He's not here to hurt me. This is Jarod. He's the reason I've been acting strange lately. We're...well, we're...in love..." Her voice was almost inaudible when those last two words crossed her lips, but it was clear that Senona had heard them. She turned to look at Jarod, then looked back at her friend. She shook her head before stepping back. Jarod only hesitated a second or two before closing the distance between himself and the woman he loved more than anything in the world.
