Right before the very moment he was born into the world , a bird perched itself against a window, vigilantly watching over a jubilant father - a lowly mortal, a distressed mother - an angel, and a simple midwife - a villein.

The rule of the angelic court had been broken once again. She would not allow history to repeat itself.

Assuming the form of a mere peon, she was in a severely disadvantaged position to admonish Byfay's guardian. She would have to do it eventually, but she did not have the heart to ruin the moment. Right there and then, she had plans for the child, but all would reveal itself in the right time.

With a single flap of the bird's wings, and a ray of the sun radiating through its glassy eyes, the young couple succumbed to the urges of sopor. It swiftly took back towards the skies, bound to return to its charge.

This could have been her chance. She carefully took the child, cleaning and swaddling him in scraps of cloth, and held him close to her bosom to wash him clean.

"My sweet child, never be attached to this place, for you are not of this world." The villein's thin, silver hair grew longer and thicker, gently fading into a majestic shade of pink, just like the infant's mother. Large wings grew from her scapulae and lumbar spines. Her face was as youthful and radiant as the sun -- any mortal who would see her would become insane from their inability to comprehend her glory.

The angel returned the child to his parents, who were still slumbering peacefully. She gracefully flew out of the window, slowly vanishing into the skies.
