Shadowrun is a Cyberpunk like setting in a near future with some magic aspects like Hermetics and Shamans. Hermetics are the mages taught by books and shamans all have a totem animal and are more the intuitive kind of mage.
Also people can enhance themselves with cyberware (like cybernetic arms, etc.) or bioware (genetically enhancements). Big companies rule the world and presidents and stuff are not more like marionettes of the big companies.
Companies and also mostly rich private people hire "Shadowrunner" (paid criminals) for the dirty jobs like stealing data, getting rid of annoying rivals or people that simply know to much.

Ethan and also Philip are both shadowrunners. Ethan is a so-called "face" someone who is very good at getting information by making people tell him stuff freely because they trust him, are simply too drunk and other more nice ways to get information. He also is good at blending in and finding stuff by simply posing as an employee. So Ethan never takes assassination contracts or where he has to hurt someone physically.
Ethan also enjoys live and does not really like rules. He uses people for his pleasure and to achieve his goals, and he does not really care if it hurts them, as long as he benefits.His big love is surfing, and he loves the ocean a lot. He only has one real friend (Jay) and he is actually the only person he does not use and treats him like you treat a real friend.

Philip is a Shark Shaman and therefor able to use magic fitting his totem (like breathing underwater, controlling water and similar). So it is common for him to hide this but it is still obvious he likes sharks and the ocean. He is very similar to Ethan and uses people for his goals, aims and enjoyment and even he has a job as a masseur, he also sometimes works as a Shadowrunner but not because he needs the money but more because he enjoys the thrill that the whole danger gives him.
Philip can be cold and calculating, even brutal, when needed and if he wants something he gets it regardless the costs.

Ethan and Philip first meet in the SPA Philip works in. Ethan was there several times but never encountered Philip but this time Philip is the masseur taking care of Ethan.Attracted by Philip's whole behavior Ethan starts to enjoy the time with him and decides to visit the SPA more often now especially asking for Philip.Philip as well seems to like spending time with Ethan and uses him for his own pleasure which seems to serve both quite well.

Ethan slowly starts to feel more for Philip but tries to hide it.Philip recognizes it after some time and plays along, pretending feelings and getting Ethan to trust him but in reality Philip was hired to kill Ethan, cause Ethan stole some delicate data from the son of a big company boss. The son who wants him dead now because he ruined his reputation.
Jay (Ethan's best friend) is wary about Philip but Ethan does not listen to his friend, who starts to gather information about Philip.

Philip instead gets his chance to kill Ethan but does not have the heart to do so. He convinces himself that it was the wrong time, and he needs a better chance to terminate Ethan.Jay slowly starts to find more information about Philip and who he really is and tries to reach out to Ethan who still tries to ignore the facts but slowly gets more and more suspicious.

The guy who hired Philip gets more and more impatient and puts Philip under pressure to kill Ethan or it will have consequences for Philip.Meanwhile, Ethan starts to gather information himself and finally finds out, that Philip was hired to kill him. Disappointed and hurt Ethan waits for Philip and confronts him with the information he has and that who knows that Philip should kill him.

Philip admits that this information is correct and that he already had the chance to kill Ethan but did not do it, and he will not do it.Ethan asks him why he does not bring it to an end but Philip does not answer and leaves.

They will meet again later but it will be a hard and long way for Ethan to trust Philip again and for Philip to win Ethan's trust.
