"Its eyes? What the hell's wrong with its eyes? I've looked her straight
in the eyes before and I've never had any problems."
"No, son. The eyes in her tail."
Name: Unknown - called Felicity (or Fliss) by the locals
Species: Demon
Age: Unknown
Gender: Presumed female (despite male-style peacock tail)
Appearance: "Fliss" generally takes on the appearance of a (female) black appaloosa with a white "blanket." Instead of a normal tail, the hair around that area slowly fades to white feathers, making a peacock tail long enough to drag on the floor behind her. When it's closed, it looks like a normal tail but it opens up to show large eyes (which function: blink, etc.) in place of the eye-like markings a peacock would have. Usually appears rather innocent to the locals.

Story
Fliss, as the creature was lovingly named by the locals, was thought to be a good spirit, or even a goddess. Those who managed to get close to her would brag about it for days to their friends and family members. The members of the small village close to the top of Scotland would often pray to Fliss in times of need, believing she could save their crops in times of drought, could cure illnesses in the midst of an epidemic and so on. One thing very few of them were aware of, however, was what she really was. Felicity, as the others of her kind now called her too after the name was given to her by the villagers, was a demon, and a powerful demon at that. While she masqueraded for most of the year as a helper for the humans unfortunate enough to live near the mouth of Hell, this was really just to keep them from getting close enough to find out the truth about her and her kind.
One thing the people of the village had noticed was that Fliss always had her tail closed. Most people thought nothing of it: as long as she kept them safe and well fed, most people didn't bother to question her. Didn't want to question her for fear of what it might uncover. Out of the few people who had gotten close to the creature, only about half had returned and the sceptical among the locals thought her tail had something to do with it. While most people just assumed that those who hadn't returned were "bad" and "deserving of their fate," others believed otherwise and were on a mission to prove it.

The summer was full of drought and the crops failed. All the prayers in the world to the 'goddess' Fliss did nothing - because Fliss and the other demons didn't care whether the villagers survived the harsh summer or died, along with other humans throughout the country who were in the same situation. As far as the demons were concerned, less villagers meant less people to find the gateway to Hell and less chance of humans finding out the truth about the way the world was run: not by a god or goddess looking to save their followers, no, but by the demons, by the devil himself - decisions affecting the world as a whole being made by those the humans hated. Why? They loved to mess with their minds and give them false hopes to things that would never happen. The only thing found in death was pain and darkness and that's how the demons wanted it to remain.
While most humans in the small, fading village continued to pray to Felicity for a saviour, a few lost all faith in the so-called protector of their people and went to confront her: to ask her why she had stopped listening to their prayers and, if necessary, to shoo her from their land in the hopes that would bring peace and, more than anything, rain again.
Five men was all they could get: five strong but wary men ready to find out the truth about the one their village had relied on for centuries. Setting out, they headed to the cave Fliss had often been spotted near to, assuming it was her home, not realising it was Hell.
Fliss watched them come to her. Begged them to come to her. She wanted some new decorations and they would do perfectly.
As the men got closer, Fliss got more excited. She wanted some bloodshed but, more than that, she wanted some statues and five burly men would be perfect; far better than the children she had gained over the years as they braved the hills to find her and to try to get a feather to take back to their families. She allowed the humans to touch her, to fuss her. She didn't, however, allow them to take anything of hers. That is when she would kill them: turn them to stone. Who needed Medusa and her head of snakes when you had Felicity, who was respected by all those who knew her, human and demon alike. The only difference was that the demons respected her for what she really was; the humans respected her for what they believed she was.
Approaching her cave, the first of the men, Julian, drew his sword. The sword was useless, quickly and carelessly crafted. But it was better than the pitchforks the other four men carried. At least it was a proper weapon. Julian slowly approached Fliss with his sword held in front of him, his stance showing he had no idea how to wield it. The demon laughed, deciding the pose was too good to ignore. She moved a step closer to the man before spreading her tail to show a row of large, human-like eyes, all with red irises which all blinked in unison. As they blinked, the four men directly in front of her, Julian included, were covered in a thin layer of stone before they had time to react, the stone quickly taking over their bodies entirely from the outside in so they were no longer human at all.
Only one man survived, one man who had been standing off to the side so had been out of sight of Fliss' eyes. The man, Felix, was too stunned to move. Until Fliss spoke to him: spoke to one of the humans for the first time.
"Run boy." Her voice was raspy, not what he would have expected at all. Especially not what those who still believed in her would have expected. "Run while you still can." So he ran. Fast. And, for as long as he lived, he kept quiet and respectful, praying along with the other villagers to Felicity. To his goddess. The only one he ever told otherwise was his son, which was something he'd come to regret later in life.
"Don't look into its eyes."
