Story

Ghalen had always been a shy Mahar. But as shy as he was, he enjoyed being surrounded by people. Even if he wasn't speaking, he liked being a part of a group. While he didn't have many friends, the ones he did have called him Ghale. He treasured his friends and always tried to make more - Ghale was a firm believer that you could never have too many friends.

That was part of the reason why he decided to make his home by the lake, where people were almost always around, rather then in the mountains or some other remote location. He adored looking at the mountains that surrounded his lake; they were looked so strong and majestic. But he couldn't imagine living up there within cold, grey stone walls.

His wings may look delicate, but they could carry him through the air. Sometimes he would glide through the mountains, especially on a clear day. But since most of his friends were unable to fly, it was a rather lonely activity. Sometimes one of his smaller friends would ride on his back while he flew - he liked those times best. Beings that could fly rarely visited his lake, but when they did he always asked if they join him for his morning flight.

Ghale really didn't like cloudy days. When he had to fly on a cloudy day, it always creeped him out to look down and see how the dark clouds formed a barrier between him and the ground, blocking his view of the lush green trees and bright blue water. Grey is such a terrible colour on everything. The clouds may be pretty sometimes, but not when they covered the sky so thickly they blocked out everything. A sunrise or sunset could be so beautiful with a few clouds in the sky to enhance the colours.

He blamed his mother for his dislike of the color grey. She was grey. Well. She would say she was silver. But he said grey. And she was the only person who called him Ghalen. Which he actually didn't like. He loved that his friends had nicknamed him Ghale.

Ghale had a contentious relationship with his mother. That had mostly ended though when he moved to this lake; she couldn't be bothered to visit him here and he couldn't be bothered to go to her. He preferred to pretend he didn't have any family left, it made life easier.
