Profile
Imperial force defied, facing 500 samurai
My first introduction to the band was actually a surprising one for me. I heard their song Lejonet Från Norden (Swedish version of The Lion from the North) on the radio several years ago. The reason that it was surprising for me is because it is very unusual for there to be any kind of metal music to be played on the radio station that is always on in this household. There’s a program on Saturdays that only has metal music on it but other than that it’s basically unheard of. Anyway, that one day they played a Sabaton song, I heard it, and was intrigued. But I didn’t do anything about it for a few years. Then, in 2019 I came across them on YouTube and since then I’ve listened to all of the songs on their YouTube channel. They have around 100 songs so far on there and I like a bit more than half of them so the honorable mentions list is going to be extensive! Without further ado, here it is: Metal Trilogy, Kingdom Come, Seven Pillars of Wisdom, 82nd All the Way, Devil Dogs, The Red Baron, Great War, Fields of Verdun, Last Dying Breath, The Lost Battalion, The Last Stand, Winged Hussars, The Last Battle, Camouflage, All Guns Blazing, Night Witches, Inmate 4856, To Hell and Back, Soldier of 3 Armies, Far from the Fame, Lejonet Från Norden (The Lion from the North), 1648, Karolinens Bön (The Carolean’s Prayer), Carolus Rex (Long Live the King), Ett Slag Färgat Rött (Killing Ground), Poltava, Ruina Imperii, Thundergods, Shadows, Burn Your Crosses, 7734, Endless Nights, Thunderstorm, Masters of the World, The Hammer has Fallen, Birds of War, Attero Dominatus, Nuclear Attack, Rise of Evil, We Burn, Angels Calling, Back in Control, Metal Crue, Nightchild, Primo Victoria, Steel Commanders, Bismarck, Uprising, Reign of terror, 40:1, The Art of War, Cliffs of Gallipoli, The Price of A Mile, The Royal Guard, The Christmas Truce, Soldier of Heaven, Dreadnought, Stormtroopers, The Unkillable Soldier, Versailles, The Valley of Death, Lady of the Dark, Race to the Sea, Screaming Eagles, Father and Coat of Arms.

Now for the actual top ten list! And in tenth place we have Panzerkampf. I really like the march feel to this one. It’s not as fast paced as many of Sabaton’s songs but that’s fine by me. Makes this one stand out a bit more. And the marching sound also fits Russia very well.
In ninth place we have Resist and Bite. First of all, I love the guitar in the beginning. Such a classic metal sound. And then you add in the awesome lyrics sung by Joakim and you’ve got a great song.
Moving on to number eight we have Rorke’s Drift. This one has a very typical Sabaton drive to it. It’s hard and fast. And of course filled with historical facts.
In seventh place we have Gott Mit Uns. With most of the songs that they have a Swedish and an English version of, I like both versions, and the same is true with this one. And something that is true with basically all of their songs that I like, it’s a combination of both the music and the lyrics that I like.
Moving on we have Twilight of the Thunder God in sixth place. With this one the subject of the lyrics is definitely what I like most about it. I love Norse mythology so songs about the Norse gods will always be favored by me.
In fifth place we have No Bullets Fly. Here it is both the music and the lyrics that grip me, but the lyrics definitely outdo the music by quite a bit. It’s such an inspirational story that despite technically being enemies the Germans decided to follow the code of the air and escort the British plane to safety instead of shooting them down.
In fourth place we have Blood of Bannockburn. I love the sound of this one. And I love that they included the sound of bagpipes! I can’t help but feel inspired and smile whenever I hear this song.60 to 1, the sword face the gun
And then there were three. And in third place I have the song Shiroyama. I love Japan and its history, especially the samurais. So, this song is perfect for me. And it has a great sound to it as well.
In second place we have another song that’s placed very high because I really love the subject matter, and that’s Sparta. Just like I love Norse mythology and history, I also love Greek mythology and history. And Spartan history is included in that. I don’t think I need to tell you that I loved the movie 300, do I? Well, I did. And I played, and loved, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey as well.
Alright, in first place we have my absolute favorite Sabaton song which is Ghost Division! I absolutely love the overall sound of this song. And when they say the name of the song in the chorus! When this song plays I am never still. Or quiet!Bushido dignified
One of the biggest things that I love about Sabaton is that they love history. When they make their songs, and their videos, they make sure to research the subject so that they are historically accurate. And they don’t care about what side they sing about. A battle is a battle to them. Doesn’t matter if it is being portrayed from the good or bad side of a conflict. They’re basically just reporting on history in the form of awesome power metal. They also share the history behind what they sing about on their history YouTube channel, which is separate from their music channel.
I, for one, am really looking forward to hearing more of their historical songs. Keep going strong, guys. And rock on! ♥️It's the last stand of the samurai
