Guardin’ Flamingo
Harold sat out on his lawn, basking in the midday sun. It wasn’t much to look at, but it was his lawn, and he was very proud of it. After all, how trampled underfoot of many a child if he had not been there to ward them away. Those dastardly little ankle biters, those devious tykes.
Every day they come, chasing after a ball or playing tag in the street, and every day Harold is there to valiantly guard his grassy kingdom. This stalwart knight of the knoll has never budged or buckled. Always he stands, a blockade against the tides of the destructive and unworthy.
You see Harold doesn’t move much that much, but not for lack of trying. Though brave, courageous and fearless is he, Harold is not the gallant knight or bitter old man you might have thought. No Harold is merely a plastic flamingo, a decoration for a garden past its bloom.
A reminder of a beauty that once was, to both those passing by and the owner of the house himself; a man named Harold.
