Day 1

The little bear was found in an attic, completely covered in dust.
The young man who found it didn't understand how it could be forgotten, and let alone to decay and rust.
He reached up top to grab it, brushing it clean and clear.
"You'll be perfect!" he exclaimed, "once the child is here."


Day 427

Today the child is 1 years old, everyone is glad.
The bear was tucked next to the boy under a blanket made of plaid.
The cake comes out with colors and candles, everyone sings.
The bear falls and gets lost amongst all of the new things.


Day 2,251

Today the child is 5 years old, wearing pink and green.
The other kids pick on him for it and are overall generally mean.
They say pink is a girly color and shove him to the ground, but the boy doesn't care.
He picks himself up, goes behind the tree and hugs his bear.


Day 4,075

Today the child is 10 years old, sitting in his chair.
The Man comes in, sits on the bed and picks up the bear.
"Are you going to ever name this thing?" he asks kindly, a twinkle in his eye.
"It has a name, dad. I call it Hugs and its not a bear, its a Chai."
"A Chai you say? I guess that makes sense. Is it a girl or a boy?"
The little boy sighed, an act to show he was obviously annoyed.
"Daddy, don't you know anything about life and love?
"You don't need a gender to give someone a hug.
"Love is in everything! It doesn't have a gender or color.
"I wish people would accept that and let people love each other.
"It shouldn't matter if a girl loves a girl or a boy loves a boy,
"It doesn't hurt anyone anyways so why should they take away the joy?"


Day 5,899

Today the child is 15, and experiences his first kiss.
The boys get rocks thrown at them, but thankfully they miss.
The child introduces the young man to his family that night and they are welcomed with hugs.
His father tells him that night he's proud of him, and will fight for his right for who he loves.
When his father leaves the room, the boy picks up Hugs and squeezes until the nerves go away.
"Everything is starting to change for me today."


Day 6,994

Today the child is 18 and considered a man in the eyes of the world.
He gets bullied at school because he isn't with a girl.
His family supports him and sticks with him through it all.
Without them by his side he knew he surely would fall.
As he packs for college he finds his old Chai.
While growing up he never kept it far from his sight.
The years had changed Hugs,just as it changed him.
Now Hugs bore stitches on its body and a rainbow patch on its chin.
For every bruise and broken heart, Hugs had always been there.
Ready to be the boys best friend and show him that they care.


Day 8,088

Today the man is 21, his college friends take him out.
And while they go to see the town they join others who are about.
The man is introduced to the sweetest man he's met.
The conversation starts awkwardly as neither feels they're a safe bet.
But as they get to know each other, they realize they're same.
Two halves to a whole, letting go would be a shame.
The man brings his love home to his mom and dad.
"Mom, Dad I'd really like for you to meet Brad."


Day 9,548

Today the man is 25 and has decided it is time.
To ask Brad to be his for the rest of his life.
He gets down on one knee and the answer is yes!
They kiss each other deeply and realise they are truly blessed.
They go to the mans parents' house, walking hand-in-hand.
His family are so proud of him, and how far he's come as a man.
His mom and dad are thrilled, in fact they're all smiles.
The man slips away to his room to think for awhile.
His father comes in not long after and like many year ago,
Sits on the bed and says "Son, I can see you glow.
"Your whole being lights up around him. your eyes are alive with love.
"So tell me, why are you up here when you should be down there with your love?"
"Frankly dad, I'm terrified. I've never felt this way.
"I don't know how to do this day-by-day.
"I don't want to hurt him nor do I want to hurt myself,
"How do I do that, is there any way you can help?"
The father sighed heavily and looked into his sons eyes.
"Only you can know what your heart wants and in it what lies.
You love this man deeply, make sure that he knows.
"Don't go to bed angry ever, remember what you chose.
"You want to have a life with him, and start a family of your own.
"Remember to look back at the years and watch how your love has grown.
"You are both beautiful human beings who deserve everything life can give,
"The most important thing to do is not forget to live."


Day 11,007

Today the man is 29 and is walking down a hospital hall.
His father has been very ill, they say he won't recover at all.
With Brad's hand in his, they walk into the room.
Machines are helping his father breathe, there is nothing but gloom.
The man walks to his fathers side and takes his hand tightly.
"Dad, I'm here with you and I brought you something that is yours rightly."
He slips Hugs next to his father, "Help him if you can!
"He's the one who taught me love and how to be a man."
The mother came in then and took his fathers other hand.
The fathers eyes fluttered open and he looked straight at the man.
"I am proud of who you are, my son, of who you have become.
"I wish I could stay with you and see your children blossom in the sun.
"My time on this earth is over, but never you forget that even in my death,
I love you with every beat of my heart and with every breath."


Day 12,102

"I can't believe I forgot you, you'll be perfect" he exclaimed, "Once the child is here."
