Senses Preparations Goodies Credits

Sight.

Beans range from tan to a dark, almost black brown. Once ground, the grinds appear lighter than its original state. Steam dances off freshly brewed coffee. Frothy milk airy, soft, and fluffy. The chemistry of combining fresh brewed coffee with cream results in going from a dark brown to a beautiful tan, sometimes near white. Coffee sediments appear in the bottom of the mug after the final sip.

Touch.

Roasted beans start out hard but become soft yet gritty when ground. Fresh brewed coffee burns to the touch, but once cooled enough brings warmth to the body. Chilled and iced coffee are cold to the touch.

Sound.

*tink tink tink* as the beans are poured into the grinder. Loud, crackling whizzing into an eventual thrum as the beans reach a fine texture for brewing. The gurgling of the milk as steam heats and foams it to the perfect consistency. Constant sound of dripping as hot liquid coffee percolates from the coffee machine. The soft clank of the spoon as it mixes coffee, cream, and sugar into the final product for consumption.

Smell.

Inhale the menagerie of aromas ranging from smoky to nutty or floral to spicy from the roasted beans which amplify when ground.

Taste.

Bitter. Acrid. Acidic. Mild. Sweet. Mellow. All acceptable words to describe coffee, and yet not in a negative connotation. Pending preparation, the pungent taste of coffee is paired with creamy and sweet.

Espresso

Highly concentrated coffee beverage, often the base for other coffee preparations.

Cappuccino

Made with double espresso and steamed milk foam.

Caffè Latte

also known as "latte." Made with espresso and steamed milk.

Frappé

Chilled instant coffee, either iced or slushied.

Irish Coffee

Hot coffee, irish whiskey, and sugar, topped with whipped cream.

Caffè Macchiato

Small amount of milk, often foamed, added to espresso.
