Kachini has a minion!

The aftermath of Lumimaire has most of Subeta in a happy mood.
Children and adults alike are filled with joy and laughter.
But not everyone in Subeta joins in the jubilee.

The residents of Subeta have come from various worlds, bringing aspects and traditions of their culture with them. One of these traditions is that naughty children do not get presents during the holidays. The only gift mischief makers get is coal.

Somewhere in Subeta there is a youngster sad because they got nothing for Luminaire due to their behavior. As this youngster tries to play in the snow in an attempt to forget their self-afflicted misfortune, a soft voice is heard.

“Do you want me to help you, child?”

The youngster looks around in surprise. The voice is heard again.

"Do you want me to help you, child?”

Despite being confused, the youngster nods their head.

“If you want me to help you," the voice responds, "you must prove yourself worthy.”

An angel magnus emerges from the shadows and stands beside the child.

The magnus tells the child that she will give the child a present provided that the child complete a number of tasks. The tasks in question are different for each child, based on the child’s personality and deeds. Once the child completes the tasks, the magnus applauds the child for succeeding and promises them that she will return with their gift.

The angel magnus goes to her home and enters her magical forge. She spends several hours tinkering away until her work is complete. The magnus finds the child and gives the child her gift, a small minion brought to life from ordinary coal. The child, grateful to get something for Luminaire at last, thanks the magnus and goes to play with their new friend.

The angel magnus, Kachini, was once a sorceress with magical prowess that most magic users could not equal. Kachini could concoct even the most difficult elemental spells with little effort. However, the angel magnus desired to use her skills for evil, and her plans were foiled by a group of heroes. After she was defeated, Kachini was given a harsh punishment: her magical prowess was reduced to barely anything. No matter what spell she cast or what ingredients she collected to create her spells, the end result would be the same: a small minion made of coal. Kachini spent several years trapped in the depths of her frustration and bitterness. One moment she was almost on par with the Wizard in magical skills, the next the magnus had become little more than a bumbling failure of an alchemist.

Everything changed for Kachini after a particular encounter. She met a child who was seen as a troublemaker but in reality was simply the product of a bad home life. As she spent time with the child, Kachini became sympathetic to the child’s plight and desired to make the child happy. The magnus knew children had a fondness for pets, so Kachini decided to put her extremely limited alchemy powers to good use. She made a coal minion and gave it to the child.

The child was skeptical at first, but Kachini knew from experience that the coal minions she created were friendly and kind. Eventually the child grew to love the little minion and learned from Kachini how to properly take care of the minion. As luck would have it, the minion Kachini gave away ended up being the catalyst for the child getting a new home with a more supportive family.

The experience warmed and softened the heart of the once haughty magnus, convincing her that there was still something she could do in this world. So from that day forward, Kachini sought out mischievous children with the hopes of giving them a second chance.
